I don't know if I am the only one, but when someone comes flying up behind me and wants to drive within spitting distance of my rear bumper while I am doing 45-50 in a 40 mph zone, I will purposefully slow down to exactly the speed limit, just to piss them off. Particularly if they are one of those idiots that can't seem to see the road without their headlights, foglights, driving lights and fvcking cigarette lighter lit up in my mirrors.

When someone's tailgating you, turn your headlights on. They think you've put your brakes on and you can sometimes get people slamming on their brakes whilst you cruise away. It makes me laugh.
how the hell would they confuse your headlights with brake lights?

Yeah... the people driving wrecklessly and insanely aggressively have nothing to do with the problem...
Hope your need to get from A to B at whatever costs don't get you hurt some day...

My question woul be this: How can you get mad at someone for obeying the law? And even more so - How can you get mad at someone for 'only' driving 5mph over the speed limit on a little residential road?

You lose the ability to make this argument when you already admitted you were speeding. Obviously you don't care about going a few miles over the limit (who does?), but as soon as someone driving a little faster than you wants to pass you slow down, just to piss them off. Some of you guys are getting this all wrong. I am not talking about multi-lane highays, or freeways. I think anyone that drives 50 in the left lane is a moron too. I also think people who drive 45 in a 55 on a highway should speed up, or not drive on a highway.
I am talking about just driving around through the city, on little winding residential roads, where the speed limits are 30-45 or so. Why do some people think it is their RIGHT to make everyone speed and risk getting a ticket?
Right, but 10+ is OK according to you.If there is only one lane, then you should just accept the fact that many people do not want to go 15+ mph over the speed limit for the convenience of some stranger behind them.
while I am doing 45-50 in a 40 mph zone

He wouldn't slow down if the person could simply pass in another lane.

Yeah, that's why I'm thinking he's not talking about multi-lane roads. Seems like every time someone comes here complaining about being tailgated, everyone assumes he's driving in the left lane of a multi-lane highway.

I didn't say they did or did not have a right to get pissed at me (if I was doing what the OP described). Sometimes I'm in a hurry, when someone goes flying up on my tail I MOVE OUT OF THE FVCKING WAY. I don't try to cause an accident by being a prick. Since they have the two wrongs make a right attitude (like the OP), I simply take on the same philosophy. Nothing pleases me more then the look on their face after you speed up really quick go to fly around them and suddenly brake check them. Have a dose of your own medicine you fvck.

It doesn't matter if it is a single lane or 100 lanes. The courteous (and logical) thing to do would be to pull over into the shoulder and let the guy pass (if its one lane).

Now we're supposed to get off the road so people who want to drive like maniacs can drive how they want to drive?![]()

Wow... I am really glad I don't live down there with y'all in the lower 48. The traffic here in AK can be annoying on occasion, but I almost never have any of the problems you guys are ranting about.
Actually the only time I had an issue was late one night, I was on a 4-lane road doing 55 and the limit was 50. This guy bent on causing trouble comes screaming up on my bumper, brights on. I don't mean he was tailgating me; I mean RIGHT ON my bumper. Not even 12 inches away, I kid you not. I was terrified to even try slowing down slightly... he was THAT CLOSE. I accelerated a little and so did he. The other lane was wide open. He would not pass me. After half a mile of this, I became convinced that this guy wanted to hurt me. So, being the resourceful guy I am, I realized that I had been out at the shooting range earlier that day. I picked up the .44 I had in the other seat and held it in front of my back window where the guy's high beams immediately picked it up. Suddenly he became a safe driver. Problem solved.
