I don't know man. Compare today's T series to the 4:3 ones ten years ago. Obviously the hardware is far faster now, but the IBMs just felt beefier, higher quality.
And the keyboards. Oh god, the keyboards.
Oh yeah, this http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/se...computer_storeI just bought a disposable HP laptop: quad-core A8, 6GB of DDR3, 650GB drive, discrete graphic Radeon 6620g, Win7 pro for $579.
No better notebook out than the MacBook Air. Not even close.

Sony Vaio Z?
I never said it was $500 cheaper, that was another poster.
Actually my x220 was the same price as the base MBP 13 but had much better specs which is why I said it was a better value. The Intel SSD alone put's it in a different league compared to the MBP 13.
The difference is that you can find good sales on non-Apple brands. As far as I know, Apple products never go on sale... you're always paying full price.

I'm brand neutral. I'll use and/or like products from different companies (Windows Phone and Zune from Microsoft, the iPad and Macbook Air from Apple).
Apple doesn't make overpriced junk; there really is a quality benefit (especially when it comes to physical build/case quality) from most Apple products like the Macbooks. Whether it is worth the premium price and difference versus other brands is for the individual consumer to decide. Personally, I don't pay the premium as I go for value brands (i.e. most bang for the buck).
One thing I will say, though, is that some people (I guess you could call them "hipsters", though really it's more accurate for this situation to call them Apple enthusiasts/zealots) over estimate the quality of Macs. They are better quality than most brands in their general price range or below, but the internals aren't significantly better. That is to say, I see plenty of Macbooks that "die" because of component/hardware failure, just like I see of Dells, Sonys (Sony is terrible in my experience, btw - their laptops look pretty, but tend to have issues), HPs, etc.
But Apple is better than average in terms of quality and performance.
My MBA had an MSRP of $1299. I got it on sale at Best Buy for $1099.
c) premium workmanship costs more
Apple products are simplified for the "common people" aka the stupid, the sheeple.
This means they are more proprietary, less powerful, less sophisticated, and less feature rich.
Paying more for less features = overpriced.
I'm sorry that you don't know the glory of the nub,
And that's the kind of answer I usually get. I didn't ask for a nub... I asked for a trackpad.![]()
