ITT: you can tell who the apple users are by the immaturity

As a whole if you lined up the most immature of AT, most would end up without an apple computer.

At my office we have three choices for laptops. Two are lenovo (one 15" and one compact) and one Macbook Pro selection (15").

Most that go Lenovo regret it. We can upgrade every two years. Most end up in a Mac.

We almost all run VMWare Fusion or Parallels with Lion and Windows 7, most of the time in convergence mode. Some of the die hard do boot camp or separate VM's.

We travel all over with our machines. Those dropping their latest Lenovos have usually a lot of broken plastic, the Apples tend to dent. Some end up breaking the LCD glass, but that is actually an easy fix.

After two years the Lenovos look a lot more worn than most people's Macs. Some Mac users don't upgrade even.

Apple products are simplified for the "common people" aka the stupid, the sheeple.
This means they are more proprietary, less powerful, less sophisticated, and less feature rich.

Paying more for less features = overpriced.

if i wanted to take the time to learn all the UNIX commands, i can do a lot more on a MBP than any windows laptop. Powershell is OK but not as powerful.

and the cheapest windows laptop i found with multiple wifi antennas was $1000 or more. no way i'm paying that much money to dell or hp

Can someone please educate me what big deal is about Apple trackpads? The trackpad on my Dell works just fine for me, although 95% of the time I'm using a mouse anyway.

As for OSX, it seems like you can do the same thing with OSX or Windows, except for one glaring difference... Gaming, which sucks on the Mac. On my windows laptop I have access to an almost unlimited supply of good, cheap games on Steam.

i don't use my wife's MBP that much but with Lion and the new gestures you don't need a mouse. if you take the time to learn the 20 or so gestures your hands never have to leave the keyboard area

In regards to trackpads, for those that love Lenovo, IBM's trackpads were good(though you couldn't use it as a slider as you can with HP's trackpads) but Lenovo's trackpads are close to useless. No wonder so many use a mouse instead of it.

When I have to take my Lenovo to a conference room, after a couple of minutes of trying to use the trackpad, I get so frustrated that I go back to my desk and get my mouse.

Converted to Apple a few years ago because my fiance introduced me to them. Still have a Windows HTPC but use a 27" iMac (rarely) at my desk and i have a 13" loaded MBA. The MBA is one of my best purchases. Prior I've had Dell laptops and nothing comes even close. Screen, keys, battery life, TRACKPAD YES, gestures, size, weight, aesthetics are not that important to me. The power adapter and magnetic plug (small but really nice feature), 0 sound, cool to the touch unless I'm playing WoW, which it plays without a blip. iMac I bought because of the all in one 27" design and because I'm no longer a power user who needs customization or clutter.

I would not likely buy Apple if I was still a power user but I'm not and I love the simplicity and features. I have an iPhone and every android phone I've used is just complete shit, including the tablets. Windows Phone can catch up to iPhone in quality if they keep at it, I actually dig it (where the fuck is the VPN functionality?).

At any rate, these threads always have degenerates who just hate Apple for being Apple (wah it's more expensive wah Steve Jobs wah hipsters use it); it's a silly way to look at things.

For Lenovo/Thinkpad, you only need the Trackpoint. That's the one thing Lenovo didn't really mess with. I like the fuzzy cover.

Like, for instance, the trackpoint copy on this Dell Precision can only be described as: shit ass.

That's even worst. Trying to highlight/select text is beyond painful.

It is sooo easy to do anything. I mean, it's not shit ass at all! When I had an X61s from 2006-2009, I literally never brought a mouse, didn't have to.

Now, I bring a mouse everywhere.

I'll take the touch/track pad on my T60 any day but the one on my X220 is horrible.

I have to admit my x220 touchpad is almost unused due to how useful it is.

But my trackpoint... I'm on the verge of buying a full keyboard that has a trackpoint integrated into it, it's that good :D

This argument is so silly to me. Look at what you get in a $500 iPad and compare it to the competition. No look at a Macbook Air and compare it to the competition. The competitors are priced the same, if not worse. So if Apple is making 30% on that then Kudos to them for being masters of the supply chain and making something that is both competitive and priced similar to others who can't make as much money.

Apple owns the tablet market, and for good reason. And they own the ultrabook market for good reason. And they are priced the same as the competition. The buyer isn't losing out, and Apple is making out okay. I've got no problems with their profit margins.

Does anyone really think that a smartphone cover really costs $20 to make? Yet we buy these things by the truckload. I'm sure the markup on those is several HUNDRED percent.

I would say Apple owns the high-end tablet market hands down. The Ipad series is a huge success because of it's polished OS, class-leasing performance, build quality and huge app selection to choose from. But remember, a lot of people simply can't afford $600 for a tablet and there is also a huge (and growing) lower-end market that Apple will completely miss out on..

OP: Sexually insecure douchebag much? Here's a little tip: You have over 10.000 posts and you're in a thread constantly patronizing people for disliking your preferred brand of computers; You're not as alpha as you think.

Dude, how alpha are you? Or are you omega?

You mean useless?

If you're (not kevinsbane) having trouble highlighting with the Trackpoint, then you're doing something wrong. It's incredibly easy. You don't have to move your index finger to continuously highlight in a straight line.

Ha! How does anything that I posted show that I'm sexually insecure? Most of what I posted was jovial, and I took time to mention that some windows manufacturers do a great job (lenovo, though obviously many disagree and sony, though the price parity isn't large when judged against similar build quality/materials). I don't really give a shit what other people use, I just feel that the "too expensive" argument is dated. Yes, my G5 mac pro WAS too expensive (nearly $4,000!), but my macbook air was not and the $100 premium over other ultrabooks null to me when factoring in service, support, and great input devices.

Also, my thread was mostly meant to kill time at work - mission accomplished, sexual identity security aside.

I don't even know what sexually insecure means - I have a daughter if proof of my ability of getting it in is questioned (though I'm not sure why it's a question, need a date?)

how about this as proof of apple being overpriced. sure its not a laptop but its a repair i was pricing out for a family member and one i just outright laughed at the apple service guy when i heard the price. stock price for a replacement cpu on a ~08 mac pro 8x is $1,499.00 thats what it costs to get the part in.. plus shipping.. plus whatever markup the business adds so as to stay in business..

and here's amazon
http://www.amazon.com/3-0GHz-Intel-Q...855117&sr=8-11
$360.20

oh and that's only one CPU, so for both...
$2,998.00-- Apple
$720.40-- Amazon

sooo i guess this isnt overpriced then?

You think you're cool because you buy a $500 phone with a picture of a fruit on it. Well guess what? They cost eight bucks to make and I pee on every one. I have made a fortune off you chumps. And I've invested it all in Microsoft. Now my boyfriend Bill Gates and I kiss each other on a pile of your money!

Nearly every physician and pharmacist I work with has an iPhone, an iPad and a macbook of some sort. Poor group of baristas there.

This isn't directly in response to the person you are quoting...but every physician I work with barely knows how to use a computer, and has a macbook. My point? Macs are more about fashion than functionality.

Some. Some are also late 30s plastic surgeons who dress and live like they just came out of a GQ photo shoot heading to their loft to bang a dozen nurses.

all the devs at my work have MBP's, and the execs have iPhones and iPads.

Good try though.

You live in Arizona so that may be why...but most doctors today have to embrace technology.

They are not the tech dweebs of the past.

While sex in the hospital happens, most docs don't ever pull group sex there. Really no need to and everyone knows group sex can come with baggage after.

bang a single nurse and end up on camera, "hey she came on to me for a while, I always told her 'thanks! but I really can't' and then told me one night while showing me the email addresses of people that control my career and her and I in a compromising position which was all camera angle and no real penetration."

bang two nurses at the same time (or more) and end up on camera...it gets a lot harder to prove the above.

I love people on forums that shape their lives to fit any argument they have :sneaky:
