Well, the "RIP" was a fairly ridiculous and downright trollish comment given that both cards are in different price segments. But, it's him. So. Not unexpected. Gotta get that gloating and trolling in.

Anyway, trolling comment aside, I think it's cool to have that much performance in a single GPU. Heck, it's matching a 690 in a lot of benchmarks. A beast for sure - Should be really interesting to see how aftermarket 780ti's increase on top of that. I'm guessing that aftermarket ti's without overvoltage will run roughly 20$ more and should increase performance appreciably - again, will be really interesting to see how classified 780ti's do. (assuming non ref boards are in the works, of course).

I bought an EVGA 780 ACX SC. sort of regretting it now though as only a few games at 1080 really need that much gpu power plus I already played Crysis 3.

Eh. Enjoy it. The 660ti was definitely borderline in a lot of the newer AAA titles, and the 780 won't be. Plus you're really getting it for less than 500$ since you have the games to sell. If you choose to do so, I mean.

I have that same card and it's great - I would have gotten the Asus DC II or lightning/classy in retrospect, but they weren't released at the time. I'm still happy nonetheless. You'll find ways to abuse it in games, trust me.

Why are those leaked benches having Titan and 780ti using much more power (watt line) than the R290X? We know its not the case for Titan/780..

Also, Cloudfire, if every generation prices go up for the increased performance, and its justified, mid-range GPUs today would be starting at around $1000 and high end $3000... except thats not how it was, until now.

There may not be a dual GPU like GTX 590. GTX 780 Ti could be the very best Nvidia have to offer from Kepler. Why not charge more money for it?

I do get it.

GTX 580 was the greatest single GPU from Nvidia. They (the best ones) used to cost $499.

Are people here certain that:
A) There will be a GTX 790 that will separate itself from GTX 780 in performance? If no, why can`t GTX 780 Ti be that GTX 790?
To give further context: When GTX 590 launched: GTX 580: $499. GTX 590: $699. When GTX 780 Ti will launch: GTX 780: $499. GTX 780 Ti: $699.

B) There will be a short while until Maxwell is here? If yes, the critique is a little justified. But if 22nm is taking longer than expected compared to the Fermi > Kepler, why can`t Nvidia use a financial strategy that ensure more revenue to nullfiy that wait?

$499 isn`t a sum set in stone is it? As long as the market is willing to pay, they are not doing anything wrong.

Dual GPU solution vs single GPU solution... The real comparison is the GTX 680 and GTX 690. It went from a 40% premium to a 100% premium for a dual GPU solution in a single generation. The market prices don't just skyrocket like they have for the GPUs unless the prices are set by a monopoly/duopoly due to lack of competition. Or have you already forgotten the price fixing lawsuits of 08?

System power consumption is definitely higher than other cards. We are looking at 500 watts here, which is definitely more than R9 290X in this comparison. The leaker claims that the card is running at average 970 MHz, which is 50+ MHz overclock. The GTX 780 Ti is supposedly labeled with a maximum power draw at 275W, that’s without any clock manipulation. Rising the clock could led to rapid power increase. These numbers will require much more sophisticated review just to be sure.

Watch the complaints about power usage die off in a couple days. 😉
Maybe I havent been keeping up lately, but most of the complaints I've seen re the 290x were about HEAT and NOISE... not power. Power should be a non-issue to enthusiasts considering cards in this class.

290x power consumption goes through the roof with overclocking. its beyond ridiculous.
 
So does the 780 once it hits 1.35V or higher. Do you expect something different from the 780 Ti?
lets try this again. the 290x added over 200 watts for a measly 7% increase in performance. there are factory oced 780 cards that already match or beat the titan and 290x and still have more overclocking headroom left to match beat the oced 290x without adding another 200 watts +. the SC gtx780 I just ordered will basically match the 290x and I still have room to oc it without even using as much power as the stock 290x.

Considering that cards have been averaging 1100-1150MHz core clocks at stock voltages (10-15% OC), I am having a difficult time accepting your claim of needing an additional 200W to obtain 7% performance...

Toyota for the 1 Trillionth time: The garbage cooler is what is causing the power consumption to skyrocket. Power consumption will go down once they release aftermarket cards that can keep the heat in check.

Hotter card = more power consumption due to leakage. It's not rocket science (I guess electrical engineering is comparable though.) 😛

I'm sure the 780Ti will be the top of the pile, but as a typical halo card the price will not justify the performance.

Power draw also increases immensely, going from just above 400 W for the whole system to around 650 W! To conclude, I expect extreme overlclockers with access to liquid nitrogen to love this card. Everyone else will probably find voltage tuning beyond +0.05 V to be too hot and too noisy.

So now we're back to comparing aftermarket 780's to reference 290x's?

If the 780's weren't voltage neutered, you'd see (was it squared power usage) massive increases as you touch voltages too. Show some sources for a 200w increase for OCing at stock voltage since you want to compare a neutered model to an unlocked one.

at some point i have to agree but still its a heavily modified card vs. ref card. its obvious the 290x wont stay this way.
