I think Rubio is clearly the star of this pack but come general election time the comments he made about abortion and rape/ incest are going to bite him bad. I still think Hillary gets the best challenge from Rubio though.

I'm watching the debate now and 43 minutes in I'm wondering when Ben Carson is going to get another question.

Other than that it's been nothing but half truths and crazy. I especially liked Cruz's complete dismissal of a military general when he asked him what was needed to win in the Middle East.

I think what we're seeing here is a result of the strategy the Repubs up on the Hill have been working with, namely, if you don't have specific answers to specific questions, then distract from that failing by attacking anything and everything the opposition party has done/have offered. A couple of examples: Attack the ACA without coming up with a better alternative and attacking the Iran deal, again without having an acceptable alternative, other than to rely on those same neocons that brought us that great adventure in spreading democracy in Iraq under Bush/Cheney.

The Repubs got nothing except lowering taxes for the rich, deregulating for the rich and "shrinking the size of gov't" to make the rich even richer.

Wow, God played a big role. Hmmm. And Ted Cruz wants to "persecute" religious liberty (I think he meant to say "prostitute").

Speaking of which, what's with the advertising during the debate (I missed the previous Fox ones)? Are we just accepting that everything and everyone is "bought" anymore?

I take back what I've said about Trump's chances; he keeps bragging about bribing politicians. He might be indicted before election day.

The commercials were far too frequent. I understand some are needed to give the moderator and candidates time to prepare but every 10-15 minutes is far too many.

Donald Trump has the mentality of a petulant child. Do we really want a President who acts like that.

Just look at his twitter feed from after the debate. I question the IQ levels of anyone who supports him.

Other than that. All the candidates have zero clue on things like taxes/spending. They say that want to do xyz but xyz all conflict with each other. Its meaningless hotair. They all want to lower taxes/balance budget but yet all seemingly want to grow the military and start wars. Our deficit spending and a lot of the recent national debt(Bush and early Obama) is related to cutting taxes, increasing spending on the military and going to war.

Excellent summary. The debate proved to be pointless at the end, not showing off anybody's long vision or even ambition. It was just fun for the carping amongst them.

My 13 year old says, "it's only fun when they are fighting among themselves"... :)

it was a fucking cluster fuck. Sad part is out of them all Trump is looking great.

the only thing last night did is prove none of them are fit to be president.

I loved the Huckabee argument that we don't spend enough money on defense because we're still flying the B52 and Carson's nonsensical recycled Romney talking point that the navy is weak because it's smaller than it was in the 1910s. Almost all the candidates wanted to do away with the sequester (for defense only) and increase the size of the military. Walker in particular exuded a brand blunt bellicosity that was creepy as fuck, probably extending from his weakness on foreign policy in general.

The only person who didn't come off as either totally insincere or flat out batshit crazy was Kasich. He'll be duly rewarded by being pushed aside with all possible speed by the party's base. Rubio did better than I expected but admittedly my bar was pretty low and he flat out lied about his record at least once plus made up some stats out of thin air.

The only losers of this debate are the American people. Thanks to the blowdried blowahards at the Fox news channel, any chance for real conversation about the real issues that Americans care about vanished into the Cleveland night. Instead, the questioners and the questioned stayed within the narrow absurdist fantasy world of under-spied-on mosques leaky cyberwalls and resolving the Middle East with one or two well placed phone calls...or bombs! Trump's comments about how he donated to many political campaigns over the years which bought him the rights to the candidates was sadly the most truthful thing I heard in the debate.

My favorite answer of the night:

Cruz, how will you put an end to ISIS in 90 days?
I will utter the words "radical Islamic terrorism."

I'm really disappointed in myself. I was really looking forward to this show but I could only endure about five minutes of it. Same old BS-seeing how can go the most extreme on issues near and dear old to the GOP faithful. And commercials during a supposed debate? A debate is supposed to be like a soccer game-no break in play. A large part of what the audience is judging how the characters perform under relatively prolonged pressure.

I did catch Trump's answer about possible third party campaign on another news show. Props to him for shocking the "my party right or wrong" faithful to the core by even suggesting that he felt his views and principles were more important than toeing the party line (God I thought I would never say anything positive about Trump).

You know with David Letterman and Jon Stewart gone, the GOP selection process apparently limited to farm league level candidates and the Dems apparently inevitably nominating Hillary, I think my TV is going to be mostly off for the next two years.
