I don't know if a public option would be a good thing or bad thing, and I really don't believe anyone really has that good of an idea to reshape such a huge part of the economy, only people who want to score political points or actually profit somehow.

What does piss me off are all those who talk about Canada, the UK, France, etc talk about how they do it so effeciently and %GDP bullshit.....

This is not some tiny, non-diverse, simplistic country. NONE of those countries compare to what we are and have in the US. None of these countries come even close to the wide variety and extremely populated ethnic groups that we have here. None of those countries compare to the cultural issues and ways of life we live and face here in the US.

JoS simply doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. Real surprise, considering he is a grunt and not in the healthcare field. This is the internet though, so he might reply that both his parents are neurosurgeons.

You do understand that we have the highest standing of living in the world. And why is that? Because we are socialist?

No.

It's because we believe in an ideal called the American Way.

That one man has an opportunity to succeed, buy a white fenced gabled house, find a wife, and etc.

He sure didn't know that his purpose in life was making sure some crack-head in Harlem got health insurance.

Dude stop talking in platitudes.

No we don;t have the highest standard of living. Not even top 10. Look it up.

Don;t want to insure someone in Harlem? your post sounds racist. I see why many democrats feel GOP is full of them. Sad.

I don't care what color you are. You;d pay less under an adopted NHC system from any countries that have it.

If I am going to pay less then why does the legislation cost a trillion dollars over 10 years with 6 years of front loaded taxes and only 4 years of actual service?

Eat my Bill, Zebo.

I didn't say anything about Harlem. I didn't say anything about race.

Right, diverse cultures and ethnic diversity have nothing to do with healthcare.....

Not enough to warrant the US to have some kind of Other system altogether. Nor enough to affect Cost to deliver adequate Healthcare to all. Your argument is just a lame attempt to throw your hands in the air declaring it too hard to do.

I must have misread when you said:

"He sure didn't know that his purpose in life was making sure some crack-head in Harlem got health insurance."

I probably took it the wrong way though. Sorry about that - but keep in mind people are sensitive.

Name one CEO that is making billions.
William W McGuire, United Health Group
Total Compensation: $124.8 mil in 2005
5-Year Compensation Total: $342,284,000,000

He'd been there 15+ years. With some elementary math, one can see that a billion isn't a stretch at all. But then he's probably worth just that much more than almost all other human beings and should be protected and worshiped.

The only bright spot is that he may have to give some back.

Hmmm. Tax rebates subsidize private health care insurance anyway. So whats the difference in the end between some poor joe and someone with employer provided health care? Probably costs the same in the end anyway.

Take those tax incentives away and see how much health care you have left at the end of the day.

And please, not much capitalism happens without Government helping it along.

Regardless, private healthcare has been unable to contain costs, and has no real incentive to do so (well until employers start saying no more please!).

On another note, how are those privately run highways doing?

There is no private health care, since insurance came around.

It's all public, and the state of our health care today, is because of the fallacious reasoning that we all deserve health care.

But, in general, it is the fault of insurance companies that told Government. "we can injsure people!"

Government ran with that, and said, "all people should be insured@"

The health-care system, realizing that there was no end to income, said "let everone be insured!"

The lawyers said, "look, every one is insured."

342 million in the five years ending in 2005. I guess once you get this far in the stratosphere, a b or an m doesn't matter. Or does it? Do you think he's worth 342 million over 5 years and is that much more valuable than you? I'm assuming, possibly incorrectly, that you don't make quite that much yet.

The only people that got fucked were the people paying insurance.

Government already insures half the population mainly old (Medicare) and mothers and their children(Medicaid). Also you got 21,000,000 federal employees and VA. Why not insure the rest? And negotiate pricing like all other counties? That's the whole problem. We pay full retail of whatever they ask. Medical is only business I know that doesn't post prices or negotiate.

I just told you.

Insurance is a scam that pulls money away from you and I, and puts it in a Lawyers, Insurance Executive, Health Care Workers, or Politicians, pocket.

How about you leave my money with me?

Oh really. How is this different than other things people think we deserve:

Social security. Medicare. Catastrophic weather aid. Police and fire protection. Individual welfare. Corporate welfare. Foreign invader protection. Travel and maintenance of roads. (Complete health care.)

We don't necessarily 'deserve' any of these and yet they have evolved into staples and become expected over time. I think some might call it civilization.

Because reforming the system doesn't instantly fix it? What are we supposed to do? Take over the whole system and implement command and control price controls?
