He also pushed for more background checks and better mental health care.

Remember that after Sandy Hook, almost nothing happened. For us to get universal background checks alone would be a HUGE victory for gun control.

You already know what is needed for that to happen; make it fast, cheap, easily available, and provides limited liability for sellers who use the system like we want. Things which make it less likely is continuing to insist only FFL license holders can effect transfers, making the cost of checks punitively high to “punish” gun owners, and otherwise making it any harder than it needs to be to comply.

Didn’t the shooter pass a background check?
Mental health? Good luck getting republicans to spend more on healthcare.

Why would that follow? Having armed faculty to protect students has nothing to do with Israel's gun laws.

You can't say their armed teachers "work" with that kind of YUGE variable being different. It's the equivalent of saying my cellphone in my pocket has protected me from tiger attacks while in suburban America so it should still work while I roam through rural India as well.

I'm waiting for the NRA to demand having armed daycare workers.

Then you should have zero problem finding one where they stopped an active shooter, I think it would have made the news if it happened.

That wouldn't be the only criteria for success. Mass shooters seem to strongly prefer unarmed victims. If the mere knowledge that teachers were armed prevented a mass shooter from making an attempt at a school that would be a success as well.

But if they never had a shooting before or after the armed presence , there’s no way to know if it’s effective.

Ignoring the fact that several of the last handful of targets actually had armed guards already there ...

So then they can go to the next "soft target" like a nursing home? Where does it become evident that everyone being armed isn't the solution? Also, do you remember your teachers from school? How many of them do you want armed? They're not trained for those situations (for obvious reasons). And how do the trained professionals separate the perp from the defenders in a chaotic situation?
