More like www.fvckruralareas.com... Seriously, people vary more by distance to the nearest large city than by where in the US they are. There are areas as close as an hour and a half or two hours from NYC that have the "cousin-sister-wife" thing going on... and there's no shortage of large, modern cities in the south & midwest, though probably fewer on average than on the west coast & NE US.

I agree with Gurck.

Modern cities? What... like ones with plumbing?
What does rural mean to you?
More than likely there's a negative connotation due to your lack of experience, or just good ol' fashioned prejudice.

Um, well its true.
Those in the my family that live here in the rural soufh are distinct from those in my family that live in the nearest big cities.Of course there is some overlap. But the people that live in Rural areas think different, I have actually heard my uncle refer to the city as godless....
They're not called Rubes without good reason.

I mean in terms of culture and beliefs... not plumbing.

amen! and they can take the fvcking midwest with them, with their freeloading government-subsidized agricultural economies.

you guys realize the red states would starve without the blue states? except for texas, of course. they've got enough oil to last 'em for a while. but seriously, if you take away the auto industry and tech industy, which blue owns, plus pretty much the entire industrial, financial, entertainment, and clothing industries (minus fvcking nashville), all you're left with is oil (we can buy it from a bajillion other sources and already do) and agriculture (same, PLUS that actually costs us tax money now and wouldn't if we told you to take a hike).

so maybe the red states should think a little harder before biting the hands that feed them.

You will be the first to go during the civil war.

You need the food we grow silly.

you're a master of reasoning.

The next civil war won't be the north vs. the south.

The south wanted to stay true to the government setup by the founding fathers, no matter how dumb it was (and it was). The north didn't like that and started a war. They won. Some southerners are over it. The next one will be much more fun.

Fsck that, if they want to secede again we should let them!

Funny but all the talk of secession is coming from the "blue" states. I suspect if they did leave no one down here could be bothered to fight to keep them in.😀

Yeah they'd be too busy keeping the Negras and the Gays in their place😉

"Keeping the Negras" in their place is why blacks are so eager to return to the south.

haha. funny article.

speaking as a North easterner, though, I don't really hate the South. it's the plains states that kill me. really every state west of PA that doesn't either border Canada or border an ocean.

Chicago alone will come kill you. ><

Farms in the US overproduce and continue to do so because they are paid to do so by the government. There are farmers that produce crops, then store them in large silos or dump them, then repeat. Imagine the type of person it takes to do that? To run a farm that is basically worthless. But greed is a powerful force. There are many poor farmers, but plenty of rich ones too.

So sure, we need the food you grow, but not much of it.

i was stationed in the south and it sucks, never ever want to go back there, people are just plain dumb and slow.

Yeah, all of us southerners are dumb, we can't say a damned thing. The south isn't slow, it's relaxed. Kind of like California, but with a work ethic. You make a silly statement for someone that does not capitalize. 🙂

I'm one of the smartest kids in my school and I talk like that sometimes, maybe even most of the time.

heaven forbid i dont capitalize, i never said you have no work ethic, i just stated things are slower down there which isnt my preference. A lot of stupid people down there as well just as opinionated as some northerners. Sorry i made the generalization of "dumb" what i really meant was opinionated like a lot of northerners.

Yes. And that is how AnandTech was formed. By people who were dumb and slow in NC. Your name has too many X's in it to be taken seriously.

Buh bye...I was wanting to annex San Fran to Mexico last week for a burrito. Hell all of the blues are populated in just a few areas, while most of the military bases are scattered throughout the South...the New civil war would be over very quickly...As for California producing alot of the nations food...check the map again, those are red  Other than LA-San Diego and SanFran, California is surrounded by repubs.
