I just left Insurgency because the leaders are lying, demanding, shouting, berating and ignorant asses who have dug themselves a great deep hole which is slowly caving in on them. Now waiting to join goons, 4d application and still nothing.

I've just broken 27m sp, flying most all matari ships. Look up 'Osmodious' in game if you want a some useless banter.

Yeah from what I understand Goons is an invite only alliance, could be wrong on that though. I'm sitting around 25-26m sp myself and I currently fly a mix of gallente & caldari ships although I mainly fly gallente. Atm I fly with Rule of Three and hang out in the drone regions. On occasion I'm like you and I like to do some yarring but I have other stuff that I have to keep track of as well. First I've heard of what you reported with Insurgency although as you probably know Rule of Three is not a big fan of them. If you ever feel like chatting it up just hit up Simon Monkoto in game.

I just started researching the game and I was thinking Caldari/Civire race suited my personality and playstyle but I need to look into it a bit deeper. I read on the VN board that Eve University is a good place for noobs to get their feet wet and some help before getting deeper into the game. I like to solo but I also like to play with others too. I was thinking that since I'm a shift worker and work nights a large guild (corporation?) would be the better way to go since I'll be playing mornings or early afternoons east coast time for the most part.

Any tips for someone not versed in Eve style of MMO gaming?

Edit: Oh, is it better to DL the game or buy it retail? I assume the new Trinity version has all the latest needed to play everywhere in Eve? By that I mean I dont need any of the older expansions too do I?

Yes the boot.ini problem has been taken care of.

EVE University would be a good place to start if you want to have an alliance teach you the ropes about various things in EVE. If you think that you might become more PvP focused you may want to join Agony Unleashed. Their main thing is their PvP training courses.

Tips for EVE gaming:

Be prepared for a high learning curve. It takes time to learn all of the aspects of EVE and much longer to master them. They have a PhD in Economics doing reports on the player driven economy, it is THAT complex. And part of the reason that it appeals to some people is the fact that it is so complex and allows so much freedom. Learn as much as you can from the more experienced players, many of them enjoy teaching other players.

You're better off downloading the game. You get 14 days free and you'll have the most up to date client.

My friend got invited to goons because the ceo was drunk and he pirated him in a rifter while the ceo was in a caracal. However, other than a personal invite the goons are from the SA forums and if you want to get into goonfleet you need to be registered for atleast 3 months.

Anyway my friend was in there for one month and came back to my corp. Said the official greeting in alliance chat or corp chat was like "sup fags". He was in igneus auctorita.

As for race I like minmatar if I could have chosen it now but I'm gallente.

edit: btw just as a note Eve-U does not take you if you have a low-sec status. When people suggest you just go and use a frigate to learn how to pvp I took it haha. Pirating:heart:

I am actually having fun gathering ore with my two characters while I build skill. Then watching it go into the pipeline. The same people come to buy it every day and I am assuming it is taken to another system to either be sold or built into something. The whole economic side of this game is fascinating.

Eventually once I get enough skills. I will be moving it myself.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I figure its a pretty complex game with a steep learning curve. Thats why I was thinking something like Eve University might be a good place to start with. If they are recruiting. I hear recruitment kinda stops and starts depending on wars and such things that may be going on. In past MMO games I mentioned I probably lean more towards PvE than PvP. Maybe 55%/45% ratio. Kinda depends on the game really and my mood at various times. I was thinking Eve University just to see how i like it and get knowledge of the game and help and then maybe move onto another guild (corporation) if needed. I assume this is considered okay ettiquette within the Eve Universe? Anyway I'm gonna keep researching and reading about the game and its mechanics before doing anything. I hope no one here minds if I ask more questions as I delve into the Eve Universe? I'll try to avoid asking the easy noobish stuff much as I can. <grin>

P.S. I'd love to hear more tips or how to and player experiences. And thanks again in advance for sharing info.

As long as you're not a trial account player, my corporation is willing to take on new players. We have about 40 active players in the corporation scattered in 3 main time zones (North America, Europe and Asia).

So just contact Myrdin Potter in game.

Eve University is a fine option, but they're not a "real" corportion.

If you're in Eve and you have questions, especially about missions/mining/trading/gallente ships, add me to your buddy list (Stefx in Eve) I'll be glad to answer your questions.

Right now trying to figure out best character build to make and starting attributes. Latest Eve forum player made guide says make a Calderi > Achura > Inventor > Military > Special Forces build but I'm really choking on the look of the Alchura male race. Fugly! The females dont look bad but not really wanting to make a female character. I like the look of the Calderi Civire males and I like their background and traits. Trying to figure out how best to balance their attributes though. A balanced spec is what everyone seems to be saying to go with but I'm having a bit of a problem getting it all worked out on paper. Any suggestions on how best to make a Civire character build as close as possible to the so called best build I listed above consisting of the Achura? The Civire merc has a 10 Will Power starting stat I think assuming I read it correctly. Definately a steep learning curve to this game.

Edit: I think where I'm struggling is selecting a beginning career path that a person select during the character creation. This is more involved than WoW or DAoC :)

Edit 2: To ask a question on their Official Forum site you already have to have the game and an account. Which is kinda whacked IMO. Cant just register at their forums and ask questions.

I started playing EVE in September.... I am loving it. It made me finally quit Guild Wars which took many many hours of my life. I can not even begin to explain how EVE is infinitely better and more interesting in every possible way imaginable to GW. The game model itself is far superior to GW or WoW.

The only problem I have with EVE is that the mission are boring and extremely dull and repetitive. Also this game has an extremely steep learning curve depending on what profession/s you are interested in.I am surprised EVE is not more popular than WoW or GW, and I hope that one day it will get the recognition it deserves.

I wish Anet made it legal to sell/trade GW accounts so I could trade mine for EVE and forget about GW completely.

In game MC just reset standings to BoB, and they, along with Ev0ke, 0utbreak, and KIA are now claiming Period Basis (and working on evicting BoB to do so). Expect BoB failure cascade over the next couple of weeks to a month or so. Interesting times ahead, if you follow the political schemes...

Band of Brothers alliance, currently claiming Delve, Fountain, Period Basis (until the MC group takes it from them), and part of Catch. Skilled players, but with leadership arrogant enough to make most of the rest of EVE (the part that resides in 0.0 alliance space, anyway) pissed at them.

I thought that they were pulling out of Fountain and basically giving it up to Goonswarm.

I am in Sylph Alliance and right now we have an amazing war going on with Triumverate.

I killed a Flycatcher today in a rifter! That was fun.

Triumvirate eh? Have fun. They are a handful to handle and usually have a pretty good idea of what they're doing. I will warn you of this much. One tactic that they seemed to like to employ when I last fought against them was a bait domi fitted with a cyno generator. They'd find a gang and get them all aggressed on the domi. Next thing you knew a cyno had opened and you got to deal with 2 or 3 carriers that you weren't prepared to deal with.

I've heard of Goonswarm in my reading travels. They have quite a few youtube videos up as well. I'm thinking I'll apply to Eve University in the beginning if they are recruiting.

Well, DLed the free trial and did the first tutorial and trained a level in learning skills one level already. I made a Achura Inventor and went Military Special Forces. That gave me starting stats of Intel-12, Charisma-3, Perception-10, Memory-8, and WP-8. That should be good enough till I learn more about the game. Luckily I came across a guide on how to make a good character portrait so my guy doesnt look too bad considering. Better than I had anticipated anyway. Tylor Calderi is his name. Using the classic version so I need to upgrade to the Premium (Trinity Free Trial is classic by default) but so far the graphics are really sweet. Cant wait to see the newer graphics. I see what they mean by a steep learning curve too. Figuring stuff out isnt easy but the tuts are helpful.

From what I can tell, BoB has orderd a complete evac of all of fountain except for the Y-2ANO system (which is next door to Delve). I would wager that BRUCE is in the best position to go after the outposts.

In regards to goons, while Goonswarm is invite/SA 3 month to get in, there are several Goonfleet corps which would accept a high skill pilot. I'm actually in STK and were running ops (with goons in many cases) out of catch in the Catch Campaign.

I will warn you, Caldari is the second worst PVP race. Amarr is the worst.

You might want to consider Gallente or Minmatar for PVP.

i am Caldari ;p

hmm, why exactly is that? Because of the focus on missles?

I'm new to the game, I have a caldari. I picked it because I could balance my stats. I want to get into pvp. I figured all I would need to do is train another races ships.

Yes you can train other races ships. My main fighter is a caldari but flies gallente.

And I believe the reason caldari are a hurt locker in pvp is their reliance on missiles and shields.
