I wouldn't say the restaurant was busy. Roughly half the tables were occupied when we were there. Would there be any level of service where you feel differently? In addition to the gaffes I mentioned in my OP, she also messed up several other times, like clearing our plates too early, and had a very unprofessional attitude. For example, like when we asked the difference between steamers and steamed clams, her response was "I have no fucking clue" and proceeded to give us an answer that was completely off base. (Steamers are not oysters as she claimed.) At least say you don't know and you'll find out for us, right?

I will post again 🙂 The reason I posted this thread is to get the opinion of others, if everyone disagrees with me, I will call them to make it right. However, due to the level of service we received, it did not feel wrong at the time.

If the girl began clearing the plates too early....SAY SOMETHING! don't just sit there and watch it happen. I'm sure she would have put them down.

We were talking to each other when she came by and just stacked one plate on top of another without asking first to take away. At which point it was too late to say anything. And yes, tt was a fairly upscale place, so yes, we did find the cursing very shocking/unacceptable.

I'm afraid not. He knew the bill was $185 according the prices listed for the items he and his party ordered. He knew that the bill presented was not $185, but $155 - he admitted this to us in his OP. He did not ask for clarification of the bill that he knew to be incorrect - because he was not told that there was a discount for the poor service he had no reason to suspect a discount had been provided. Hence, he knowing paid $30 less than he knew he was obligated to pay and that's stealing. Period.

You didnt do anything wrong. For all we know she could have noticed a mistake on the first bill presented and corrected it when running the CC's. Although she should have probably said something if that were the case. Bad service sucks and the restraunts are the ones you have to pay for the bad service of their waitresses/waitors. If the service was as bad as you claim i would have not said anything either about an incorrect amount.

If the waitress is too stupid to figure out how much you owe it's her own damn fault. I might have said something to the manager when I walked out about the crappy service and how the waitress needs to be trained on how to properly run the tickets.

It's called letting the manager know you have a problem, not doing some ninja move no one is going to notice.

I am willing to be the OP and his scourge simply went to a restaurant outside their league and are looking for justification to bring that cost down.

can't say I ever have, at least not knowingly.

if I knew that I wasn't charged enough, I would have brought it to their attention (assuming that 1, the waitress would have been fired or had it docked from her pay, or 2, that they'd have my CC and would just charge me for the missing amount later)

I expect screw-ups from new waitresses. I usually tip them even more so they will remember. I have rough days from time to time where nothing seems to go right, so I don't hold it against a waitress unless it's habitual. The occasional screwup usually turns into a joke and results in a larger tip.
