The Elf main story quest inside the ruined temple. A glass bottle buried in a pile of dirty will tell you (if it attacks you it's not it) located in a small room.
Yep. Very, very easy to miss.

(In fact, I don't think it's even possible to get all the specializations in the first run, so you might consider just leaving it for the second play-through.)

Definitely enjoying this game. I skipped most this thread because I really don't want to see any spoilers. I'm having a great time just making my decisions and sticking to em for better or for worse.

Did they include mimics in this game? I am only ~25% through the game and have not seen one.

If not, that is one epic disappointment. Mimics are usually crazy hard, magic spamming bosses which are so much fun, especially when you do not notice them.

Saw a few questions regarding specializations in here, so here's a list of where all the specializations can be purchased/unlocked:

Mage:

Spirit Healer - Taught by Wynne by pursuing her personal story. Alternatively, a manual can be bought from a vendor in the Wardens Keep (DLC).

Arcane Warrior - Taught by The Presence in the Brecilian Ruins.

Shapeshifter - Taught by Morrigan if asked to. Alternatively, Master Varathorn in the Dalish Camp teaches it as well.

Blood Mage - Talk your way to a bargain with the Desire Demon possessing the kid Connor in the Fade during the events of Red Cliffe Castle. One of the options will be to teach you Blood Magic.

Warrior:

Berserker - Taught by Oghren. Alternatively, a manual is available for purchase of a vendor in Denerim near the end of the game.

Reaver - Taught by the cultist Kolgrim in a temple close to the Village of Haven. Note that only completing this quest will prevent Champion from being available for training in the same playthrough.

Templar - Taught by Alistair by pursuing his personal story. Alternatively, you can purchase a manual offered by merchant Bodahn in the party camp.

Champion Taught by Arl Eamon in Red Cliffe upon successfully completing the 'Urn of Sacred Ashes' quest. Note that only completing this quest will prevent Reaver from being available for training in the same playthrough.

Rogue:

Assassin - Taught by Zevran by pursuing his personal story. Alternatively, a manual can be bought from a vendor in Denerim near the end of the game.

Bard - Taught by Leliana by pursuing her personal story. Alternatively a dwarf called Alimar in Orzammar trains it as well.

Duelist - Taught by Isabela in the The Pearl in Denerim after defeating her in a game.

Ranger - Taught by a manual sold by merchant Bodahn in the party camp.

Ahhh...too many hints [yes..they are covered up..but curiosity makes me mouse over them!].

I'm really enjoying the walking bomb spell..... though not sure the melee characters like bein' covered in blood all the time. 🙂

One thing that kind of bothers me is I missed up the chance of becoming an arcane warrior because I wasn't sure if I wanted to be one, so I said "no" to that vial. I didn't realize it only unlocks the availability of it. I thought it would instantly turn me into an arcane warrior. Fortunately I'm quite satisfied with my blood mage/healer route.

I seem to have a major problem.

I signed in and started playing an Elf Melee Rogue as my first character. I decided against this and started a new Dwarf Warrior but had logged out of my account before creating the Dwarf Warrior.

Now when logged in and on the Dwarf character, the game now tells me that my Blood Dragon Armour DLC is active (yet I have never received my piece although the people in camp sell the rest of the set) and that Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner DLC's are 'active' yet 'unauthorised'.

When I am logged in, it tells me I am unauthorised yet when I am logged out, I am! If I am logged out and go onto my Dwarf character it is telling me that alll 3 DLC's are active. I cannot seem to find any access to Shale or Warden's Keep.

To add, I have my party members and 2 Dwarven merchants in my camp, one merchant, one enchanter and an emissary (helped the Templars and Mages Circle)

I feel rather stupid

Covered in blood all the time happens no matter what spell you're using.

The balance in between spells in this game is wonky. Tempest is a tier 4 spell, yet isn't all that effect. Grease and any fire source is a very, very nasty combo, and it's tier 2.

It seems like the spell combos is where it's at, can be absolutely devastating.

In addition the my above questions, has anyone tried a Warrior based Archer?

Mine is my main character and he seems to be absolutely devastating. Racking up over 50% of my overall party damage and has hit for over 250 in one shot. Only about level 11 too 🙂

Some of the ranged skills seem very useful but are slow to fire off. The mass-stun arrow is crazy!!!

It will unlock for all subsequent playthoughs.

To add to this, once you unlock a specialization, it gets unlocked forever for that player profile. So, you *can* get all of them in "one playthrough" by unlocking it and then loading your game. There are a couple of points in the game where you have to make a decision and your decision will lead to unlocking one but you won't get access to the other anymore. But if you load your game and pick the other decision, you can unlock both.

It's kind of metagame cheating but it is possible if you really really want a particular specialization but it isn't on your moral path or whatever.

This also means that if you play the game again, you can pick your first specialization at level 7 instead of waiting for the unlock, which usually takes longer if you play the game normally and do the side quests.

Is this game anything like Oblivion? I tried to play Oblivion for a second time last night. Got about 4 hours in and I had to quit again. It's just so boring. I loved Fallout 3. Don't know why I can't stand Oblivion.

I'm using Leliana cause I'm a loot whore and I can't stand passing locked chests, but even at level 3 I'm having to pass 25% of them... not that I've ever gotten anything good from them. I guess darkspawn like to lock items worth 10 silver in treasure chests.
