Low maintenance, perhaps. But, certainly not the most reliable. They are subject to far more jams and pipes than the Beretta. In over 5000 rounds, I've never had a malfunction of any kind with my 92FS. EVER.

Actually, I am pretty good at knife throwing. Its kinda a self taught talent. I can hit a 1ft diameter target from maybe 25ft away. I could just chuck the knife. But I'd give you a chance just to prove how crappy nunchucks are compared to the pierce of a steel blade. If only i had adimantium claws or a Roman gladius. Like in those two movies...

The Mossberg is a great piece at a very reasonable price. Also, the best home protection.:)

I have a sword. Mainly ornamental, but still good to chop someone's head off should the need ever arise.

Russ, HOLY CRAP! :Q

Thats quite an arsenal...were you stocking up for the Y2k looters or something?! :p Hehehe

BTW, I was just playing Rogue Spear...I did a few terrorist hunts in Lone Wolf mode with nothing but a 92FS 9mm SD (silenced) and a HBS (heartbeat sensor)...well, on level I used a sniper (PSG1), but only because there were about 7 guys that usually come out and there is a hill overlooking the area. :p

When I turn 18 I wanna go to a shooting range and see how good of a shot I am...at laser tag I am really good....heh. :)

I want a handgun for protection.I want to squeeze 1 round out in a fear filled attack in my home bedroom in the middle of the night from a perp that looks to outway me by 100lbs. what handgun should i have in my wavering hand that will drop him with 1 shot?

Under the bed is my remmington 370 30-06 deer rifle and in the basement is a single shot 12 guage.

tripleshot...like Russ said, a shotgun is best,I alternate between single 0 buck(magnum) and slugs... as for handguns...usually the bigger it is the more stopping power...for a wheelgun I'd recommend a .44 special, not nearly the kick of a magnum and still has good stopping power..an auto I'd recommend a .40 caliber...I believe Baretta makes a 40 but I'm not sure

44 Mag, most any 45 cal, or a 50 cal DE will knock any sized man down with one shot at point blank.

Trinitron... true but if your inexperienced w/pistols it would probably be better off w/a lighter weapon...he did say his

<< shaking hands >>

besides the desert eagle "50 cal' is just too big to make a good defensive weapon...except maybe in defense against a grizzly bear! same w/ the 44 mag DE... I know I own one:Q

Your right thats true for an inexsperienced shooter. The 44 Mag's weight does make it a very "clumbsy" weapon to wield in close quarters, as is the DE -but it only takes one shot :D

"Well I learned from a Karate instructor that you need several sustaned hits to imobilize some one with nunchucks - he only needs one lucky stab/slice."

Sounds like a Kempo instructor wuss;) (no offense to my Kempo comrades:) ).

You can easily immobolize someone with a single strike if you are using the right type of nunchucks and know what you are doing. A couple quick and relatively easy ones, thrust to the throat or to the outer corners of the eye socket(on the edge, will fracture a decent portion of the skull). For type, 12"-16" octagon chain/bearing, you don't want rounded in combat nor do you want rope/swivel, they don't offer enough speed through all rotations. Don't try and "practice" this unless you know WTF you are doing, hitting someone in the throat can easily kill them, never do this unless you are in a life threatening situation, same with the eye socket though it is rarely fatal it can cause severe permanent damage.

"Assuming someone has a pretty good efficiency with nunchucks against someone just messing around with a kitchen knife, I would still want to be the one with the nunchucks. But yes it might be a different story against someone who knows how to wield a knife."

I'll take the chucks, anytime. Knives are easily turned against someone, particularly with chucks. Remember to use swing/wrap on any thrusts(defensive for you, offensive for knife bearer) and the knife is easily used to your advantage. Swords on the other hand.....

Good practice for that is to have someone with some cheap makeshift spears try to stab you over and over. When you get the hang of down you will be either breaking the spear everytime(broken arm) or flipping the spear out of your "opponents" hand which results in the muscles in the arm being forced to relax and the knife dropping to the ground, leaving only you armed.

For knife throwing/defense, have someone throw softballs at you over and over and practice swatting them away at first and then using thrusts to knock them back. When you get the hang of that down, move to baseballs and then golf balls.

If two properly trained individuals clash one with chucks the other with a knife, odds are four to one against the knife bearer, they would be even more slanted except for the lucky slice part(which can be painful even with practice gear;) ).

Oh yeah, I own a couple pairs(or more) of chucks and a Ruger 10/22. Only ever use it for target shooting, and haven't fired it in a few years(mainly because the gun is stored ~50miles away, no child house, and I don't have a lot of spare time).

Well guys, I have a S&W 9mm, but I'm getting rid of it. I bought a Beretta .32 Tomcat two weeks ago, which if the mail is delievered early enough today, I'll be shooting it this afternoon. It's a ridiculous waiting period in NY for a handgun, but the law is the law and I always follow them. I plan on buying a Sig 9mm in the coming weeks, after I'm bored shooting the new Beretta. :) BTW, Russ that's some collection. It's nice to see that the forums are well armed. :)

Russ I'll put my Glock Model 21 in 45ACP up against your Baretta. Reliability or otherwise. The reason I bought it was reliability.

Now, the Glock is a fine 'Combat' handgun, but I don't believe in Cops using it except possibly a SWAT Team. There is no manual safety. More Cops are shot with there own firearm than any other way. Most of the time this happens in a struggle where a felon gets the Cop's gun and uses it on him! A Glock is a point it and pull the trigger handgun where a Baretta, for instance, has a safety that needs released for the gun to fire. In a struggle, the second it takes the crook to figure this out has proven too many times that this is the case.

Most Cops do not take the considerable time it requires to learn the proper use of a handgun. This has changed considerably in the last few years. Semi-Automatic Handguns are for Professionals! Most everyone, includeing most Cops would be better served by a quality revolver.

My Arsenal...
S&W Model 3000 12ga Police Riot Gun with Laser sight.
Moseberg Model 3000 for hunting [Yes they are the exact same gun other than accessories]
Chinese Ak47 clone by Norinco in 5.56 Nato [6 30 round mags]
Chinese AK74 clone by ? Very few imorted. 5.56 Nato,Match Barrel with bipod. Modified by myself to take 90 round drums and another 6 40 round mags.
Colt Officer's Model in .45ACP. Highly customized. Match Grade everything. Low mount Millet sights. Teflon finish. etc.
Glock Model 21 in .45 ACP
S&W Model 640 Bodyguard. .38 Special 'snubby.' High visibility sites. Modified trigger.
I reload all the calibers I shoot. Possibly around 20,000 rounds of various ammo ready to go.

I used to be 'in the business' btw.

For reliability I bought a Colt 1911 (actually 1991A1). The 1991 design is almost one of the most reliable guns out there.
I've got others but that is my favorite...

Got swords too, used to fight with them. The katana and basket hilt claymore are my favorite.

I own a Mossburg (SP?) 12 gauge pump, set up as a riot gun. Pistol grip, 18" barrel. It sports a Mag-Lite rather than a scope.

The ONLY reason its here is for personal defense. I keep it loaded with (first shell) #2 buck, (second shell) rifled deer slug, and alternated the same way though out. I figure that if the buck doesn't stop him the deer slug most definately will. I've never had to use it and pray that I never will but it's here just the same.

I read an article a lot of years ago that said that a pump shotgun was the best personal defense weapon because it's the least likely to have to be used. If someone breaks in, hide in a dark corner and work the pump one time. Any criminal type will KNOW the sound of a pump shot gun getting ready to dance and most probably vacate the premises rather quickly.
