Screw the metric system.
Miles > kilometers
Pounds > kilograms
Quarts > liters
English > metric

Are you sure you graduated from high school?

Uh, did you? That's the proper analogy..

But in any case, the OP is an idiot.

no it is not

He mixed derivatives of metric units with single units in the english system...

miles relates to meters
pounds relates to grams
quarts relates to liters....

consistency

ummm, technically, kilograms are the basic unit for mass. ;)

meter-kilogram-second

Actually, pounds aren't even the basic units for mass. Pounds are units of force.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should be:

pounds--newtons
slugs-- kilograms

there are also two types of pounds: pound-mass and pound-force. sucks, doesnt it? :p

and pounds doenst compare to kilograms, cuz a kg is a unit of mass. you = noob!

Pounds equate to kg when assuming a constant gravitational force.. which just so happens to exist in every place you've ever been.

What about when you're in an elevator? ;)
There's a constant gravitational force in the elevator, yet your weight changes while your mass remains constant as the elevator accelerates.

well, India and China use metric.

you better learn metric if you want to have a job 10 years from now.

its so simple once you get the hang of it...and the Aerosmith song " my big 10" would now be "my small 4.1666 cm" lol

or "my big 25"

I'm sorry for your small 4.1666 (1.6") but switching to metric won't make it bigger ;)

this may or may not have been said already cause im not going through all the posts but try

slugs and grams
newtons and pounds

try living in a twin city with the US

we have to do both for everything

isn't imperial only used in the UK and the United States?

metric is by far the superior measurement system

metric makes so much more sense. you were just brought up with the wrong system :D

so? and what base do you propose to use? a whole collection of bases all over the place that make units difficult to convert like the empirical system is not the answer

what matters is that our number system is 10 based, and unit system is supposed to be used with the number system.

and guess what? You're all in a pissing debate over a SYSTEM OF MEASUREMENT! Fer chrissakes, if you're too dim to remember the conversions between a few units (inches to feet) then the metric system isn't going to help you. Yes, the metric system IS slightly more efficient, in that it's quicker, but it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

You all need to take a step back and look at yourselves.

Metric FTW.

yeah but go under a millimeter and it goes all apeshit crazy

no it doesnt...what are you talking about? Its goes in thousands then

Metric is teh win.

I wish I'd been raised on metric, though, because I just can't envision it the same way I can the imperial system. When somebody says 182cm or 32kg, I can't convert that in my head to an understandable measurement, but if they say 16 inches or 40 lbs, that's easily envisionable.

I have the opposite problem, which is very annoying because the empirical system is so prevalent in everyday usage in north america. whenever I see "pound"/"inch/fahrenheit" I go wtf and have to mentally convert to get a feel for it :| at least celsius is used frequenty in Canada

That, we can agree on!
