I'll have the Monster Blue Whale Burger please. Small diet coke to wash it down.

Screw the metric system.
Miles > kilometers
Pounds > kilograms
Quarts > liters
English > metric

Are you sure you graduated from high school?

Uh, did you? That's the proper analogy..

But in any case, the OP is an idiot.

no it is not

He mixed derivatives of metric units with single units in the english system...

miles relates to meters
pounds relates to grams
quarts relates to liters....

consistency

ummm, technically, kilograms are the basic unit for mass. ;)

Yep, you're right. Grams are the commonly accepted laboratory unit.

First of all, the English system is now defined in terms of the metric system..
1 inch is defined as exactly 2.540000..... centimeters.
All of the standards are metric.
The only people who have a hard time with the metric system are stupid Americans.

And,
mass = slugs vs. kilograms
weight = pounds vs. newtons

*sigh*
And, whether the basis is grams or kilograms depends on whether you're using CGS or MKS
centimeter-gram-seconds
or
meter-kilogram-seconds.

Furthermore, what's the weight of 1 cubic mile of water? (do it without googling... I doubt you can, oh mighty master of the American system)
But, any high school kid in physics could quickly calculate the weight of 1 cubic kilometer of water.

LOL, there is also; Fine thread & coarse thread, American,
Metric fine/coarse, and then English thread bolts, Ugh.

If you work on Japanese, or American cars,
you can get by with 2 sets of wrenches/sockets.

If you work on some older British vehicles,
God Bless, you need More special sized wrenches.

The other day in my head I was trying to figure out how many grams in a lb.

i came up with aprox 600.

Haven't looked at a conversion chart, yet.

I was wrong, LOL.....

.4536 of a kilo.

We aren't stupid because we grew up with a different system you fvckass.

Oh, and I like the metric system just fine, but it is still easier to use standard here since everyone is so familar with it.

9.8*10^12 N of weight in one cubic kilometer of water ( i assumed that 1cm^3 = 1mL = 1g H20)
4.1*10^18 N of weight in one cubic mile of water (if you want the answer in pounds... too bad)

The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead, and that?s the way I likes it!

there are also two types of pounds: pound-mass and pound-force. sucks, doesnt it? :p

and pounds doenst compare to kilograms, cuz a kg is a unit of mass. you = noob!

Pounds equate to kg when assuming a constant gravitational force.. which just so happens to exist in every place you've ever been.

How do you know he has never been to space?

I hate all the conversions I have to do when I have to read a metric print. Although I realize metric is better, I'll stay with my inches, feet, yards, etc.

Agreed. 182 cm? What the hell is that? 84 kg? Waste of my time to convert to lbs.

this has to be the most ignorant thread I have ever read on here.

Ignorant how? We here in America are burdened with a legacy system that is embedded in every facet of life. I don't know about you, but I don't like being the be the generation burdened with a dual system as a transition to the metric system. I'll take if I have to, but I won't like it.

That is exactly why the US will stay with the metric system for at least a while. I think the metric system is decent, but the only way to get Americans to use metric will be to quit labeling things with the US units as well (the same principle applies for those who seek to replace our $1 bill with a coin).

I wouldn't mind a switch to the slightly narrower and longer A4 paper size either; for whatever reason it's easier for me to read stuff in narrower columns than it is to read a very wide block of text.

I think I will add my two cents to this thread too.

Metric system is far superior to the US Customary system. There is no debate on this.

The US is just too stubborn, or lazy, to do whats necessary to completely change over.

1) Stop teaching US Customary in schools, remove it from all text books.
2) Replace it with the metric system.
3) Cease selling of all products using US Customary measurements. No more tape measures with 1/16th of an inch.
4) Wait for all the stubborn old people to . . . filter out of the world.
