I agree with this. I downloaded thief last night and the opening scene was very reminiscent of xbox 360 graphics. Now, the character models and some other textures are a little more detailed, and the shadows and lighting are superior to 360 but it's not quite enough in my opinion. Games like call of duty look the same on x1 and 360, and it's very disappointing.

Games that are on both the new gen and old gen are not going to look much different, especially on the Xbox 1. Many of these games on Xbox 1 are not even being rendered at full 1080p HD, which is why they aren't impressive. I have heard that this will change in the future. Although, the PS4 is already 1080p on I believe all games. Down the road when these games are only for next gen (some are) they will take better advantage of the next gen's hardware and capabilities.

The ps4 isn't 1080p on all games but it is probably a majority of them.

1080p or not, there is 1/3rd again GPU performance disparity between the two. It will be significant, more so in the future when next gen games start abusing both to the fullest instead of just last gen games rendered at 1 million x 1 million.

When neither system can do 1080p is when you will notice the difference most.

While the consoles are all struggling to reach 1080p with worse graphics than the mid range PC we are seeing a monitor revolution in the PC world. We have gsync coming which is an incredible technology, we have 4k monitors out (expensive) and we have Virtual Reality headsets with the Occulus Rift dev kit and presumably soon to be retail.

I feel like the consoles launched at just the wrong moment, because a massive transition is happening in the PC screen world that could really improve fidelity of gaming images. Yet none of it will be on the consoles, they lack the hardware to do it, they are even struggling to hit 1080p.

All of that would be significant if PC graphics were a consideration when purchasing a console. But when people choose to buy a console, it's not because they are comparing resolution with a PC. If that were the case, nobody would ever buy a console.

It's a very different gaming experience. Believe it or not, people enjoy gaming on consoles, even though they are "only" 1080p (or less).

Oh yeah? And I could say that the PC will still be getting hand me downs, and "look we have it too!" ports. Sony is working on a VR headset for the PS4 as well. All the fancy monitors in the world don't help when the games are not built for the PC which a vast majority of them are simply not. Are there games I feel are better on a KB/Mouse setup at 2560x1440 + 4xAA? Of course...but the games don't suck because they are 1080p on a PS4.

I'll tell you one thing, I don't have a XB1 and a PS4 to play the games I would play on PC. I got them because Killer Instinct, Forza, Killzone, Dead Riding, Ryse, Knack, inFamous, Drive Club, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, and other games will not be on PC.

This is very true in the majority of cases, but not in mine. In fact, I purchased a PS4 in hope of being able to get past the hideous textures on last gen consoles. 2 games I really wanted to like and enjoy were Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls. Between the Jaggies and the low res textures it was just not possible, literally. Last gen console graphics look like a smeared mess of a water colored painting. Or like watching a VHS tape on a 65" display or larger

Like the 360 the PS4 will probably last me 2 to 3 years and then it will collect dust.

Not bad for $400 considering some people pay $500 for a single graphics card or CPU and replace it in 2 to 3 years as well. Heck I think there are some here that pay that much in High end head phone replacements within that time considering all the models mentioned that some have owned.

And I could say that those ports will still look and run better on PC than on the consoles because the gulf in raw power is that large.

you should really get your eyes checked, or your prescription if you already wear glasses.

xbox360 and ps3 look great on my 120" screen.

No it won't, when the ports are just thrown together like GTA4 was and ran like ass or even better Dark Souls before someone decided to take it upon themselves to fix it.

You can tout superior this or that all you want when you can't even play inFamous, Persona 5, Halo 5, Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes,The Order 1886, The next Uncharted...I could go on and on about games that are coming and will not be on PC.

Again you are ignoring the primary reason a lot of people buy consoles...they get more games worth a crap than the PC. I have a PC that can play every game out there, but I'm not so stupid as to think it's better at everything. That's simply not true. How's that GTA5 on PC or the definitive edition of Tomb Raider with the weather effects? Oh right...

I tried playing dark souls on pc and even on 1080p it didnt look as good as it should look on a pc maxed out.

I saw someone stream ground zero on psn last night. That game looks very impressive but the guy playing it didn't know the meaning of stealth.

It must be sad to be a gamer like you, no matter how good the game, if the graphics aren't good, you won't play it.

Yeah the $400 is great price considering what you get, I needed the extra Blu-Ray player too. But I wish they would upgrade the consoles ever 3 or 4 years.

Nah, just a little aggravating when I buy a game and realize I can't handle the smeared looking textures. All the FPS'ers look flat on the 360 to my eyes.

Did you add the "community fixes"? The game has probably one of the worst ports for a AAA game in recent years. Regardless of what your resolution is, the game will render at 720p and upscale to your designated resolution (e.g. 1080p).

I am willing to play the good games wherever they are, at the best possible experience. For me that's PC > PS4 > XB1 > Wii U > PS3 > 360. But hell, even if I get a great game on Genesis, I don't whine about it, I'll have a blast with that shit.

But I never play the 2nd-best platform for a game that's on a better one.

I have GTA 4 on the 360 and PC. The PC version has much clearer and sharper textures even if it is a sloppy port. The draw distances, pop-ups, jaggies are freakin horrible on the 360. You've got to be joking if you don't notice this....

Dark Souls are the other hand, looks terrible unless modded.

Well besides the graphics debate, consoles and pc's cater to different kinds of games! My friends and i come back from the bar and want to do something fun? Out comes the wii u for some sports or wii party.

Roommate wants to chill so we pop diablo 3 in the ps3 and grind it out or we kill some zombies on black ops.

If I'm by myself and want some serious competitive gaming? I'll play 32vs32 battlefield or some starcraft on my pc that I paid about $700 for in 2011. I seriously lol to myself to the defenders saying it's necessary to spend thousands every year to do that.

It's just a matter of situations and how you want to game, graphics aside.

That being said.. This generation of consoles has yet to shine. The ps4 will probably gain a little edge due to it having faster ram and 33% more shader hardware. Like someone said, that difference may not be noticed by many but it will be there for those that appreciate the difference.

Halo 4 wasn't flat. Think you need an eye exam heh

If anyone needs their eyes checked that would be you. The fact is you even showed the difference between muddy looking washed out textures in beginning of this thread. Xbox 360 vs Xboxone. Contradiction? To me, the xbox 360 looks flat in comparsion to the one. Well... the same can be said when the xbox360 vs other superior hardware. Or the One/PS4 vs superior hardware.

Console Market Is In Crisis

A few days ago Sony announced it has now sold a total of 6 million PlayStation 4 consoles. Microsoft’s next-gen equivalent, the Xbox One, has likely racked up sales of around 4 million so far.
Both flagship consoles were released around the same time in late November last year, in time for the 2013 holiday season.
And both companies have been shouting loudly about who’s beating whom for cumulative console and games sales globally and in key markets like the U.S.

On the cumulative console sales score at least, Sony’s PS4 appears to be edging out the Xbone, for now.

The thing is neither of these new generation console flagships is selling very well when compared with previous generations of flagship consoles.
The console market appears to be shrinking significantly — and that’s evidently having a knock-on impact on games studios and game development

No I didn't know about those fixes st the time. I hope dark souls 2 doesn't look like that for pc. I was going to get it yesterday then I realized it's for ps3 and my ps3 controller is busted.

unsurprising
neither of these deliver the value of their msrp for most ppl
the idea of some $500 box underneath a tv that could cost around the same
not appealing
in the age of chromecast/roku/ and misc the console just comes across as expensive and
im guessing for many superfluous
