So you spent more than necessary on purpose? The "money is no object" crowd don't really fit into this equation.

Eh, I wouldn't state that I spent "more than necessary". I might have been able to find something that matched exactly what I wanted at a slightly lower price, but once you start adding in features like fully modular to a PSU, you're usually looking at premium PSUs. Also, since it was going into my server, I wasn't as worried about wattage so much as lifespan. I don't want my server going down due to a cheap-o, bargain bin power supply failing. Then you go to motherboards. I spent more on that because I wanted an excess number of SATA ports, so I wouldn't run out. 10 ports isn't that common on boards! :p

It also doesn't help that I'm fairly anal retentive about certain things such as noise and cooling.

Hell you don't have to spend $1k to have better cross-platform gaming than is possible on consoles right now...

At the same time, it's great to have the consoles to play games that are just plain better suited for them, sports, arcade stuff, fighting games, exclusives, etc.

Best of both worlds is always the best.
Exactly. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by the fact that even a moderately priced PC can have better graphics than a console. It gets debated every console generation, but it's not rocket science, and it's not even really a debate.

That being said, I don't think that "better cross-platform gaming" is a good description. It all depends on the experience one is looking for, kind of like you touched on with the game genre statement.

Of course, there are other things to consider... For instance, what do your friends play? More than a couple of my closest friend will be playing Titanfall on the Xbox. I will definitely have a more rewarding gaming experience playing with them on that ecosystem, than on a PC with strangers, even though it has better graphics and a better control system.

Often times, I'd rather sit on my couch with my home theater and game than at a desk. Yes, I know you can hook a PC up to a regular home theater setup, but it's just not logistically feasible for many homes.

But yes, "best of both worlds is best", if you can afford it. The people that limit their options just to be "loyal" to one or the other, completely baffle me.

Consoles used to launch with hardware more powerful than what was available on PC. Yes, it was usually flipped back in six months or so, but the idea of consoles launching with equivalent/weaker hardware than what's already on the market is pretty new.

Otherwise, I do mostly agree with the rest of your post.

My opinion on the new consoles is...meh.

For the PS4 crowd, graphically Killzone looks amazing and by far the best looking game on that platform, but the game play is so boring to me. THe story is so half assed, that I find myself refusing to play the game. It took me the longest to beat of my launch titles and that is only because I had no real reason to play outside of complimenting the graphics.

For the Xbone crowd, Ryse is by far the best looking game of both consoles and it was fun, for about 4-5 hours. Then it got so repetitive, more so than most hack and slash games get for me. And that story...really? Well considering it is Crytek and they gave us the Crysis Trilogy I guess I should consider it the best they can do, but...

Graphically I am okay with them, I've yet to be impressed by either though. Sadly, I find some of the best combination of graphics and gameplay on the freaking Wii U.

90% of all games for consoles are FPS, big surprise they are getting boring. Cake is great, eat it non stop, dont matter how good it is, you will crave something else. Looking for a story in video games, is a bit like looking for it in P0rn, its about the fun, not the story. Same thing been said since day one, so they get actual big name writers to write, and people still say the same. We wont even go into, one person loves a Story/music/movie, another wont, so there is no way to judge that part good or bad, except for yourself.

as for graphics, its simple to see they are better on this gen when compared side by side, but they are just one part of a game. Ugly or great, the game-play matters more. SO yes, a great story, great graphics, game-play and control all add up to something wonderful, but skip one you still get good. skip a couple you can still have fun. Or you can just look for the bad, its an option, makes life a bit long and painful, but many chose it. Cant say i disagree with the "nothing to play on next gen yet" that worth more then a few hours, spot on that part.

While I didn't love the game play of Bioshock Infinite, it had a good story. It just happen to be an FPS.

This thread is full of PC fanboy garbage. You can be disappointed all you want but you have to admit that NBA 2k14 next gen is amazing. The PC version looks nothing like it at all.

If the PC version doesn't look as good as those shit consoles, its the developers fault, not the PC's. These underpowered toy consoles are built for your average Walmart shopper that can't afford a midrange PC or are too dumb to build one themselves.

Weird... I have two high end PC's that I built myself, and yet I have a great deal of fun on my Xbox. I'm not sure what to think of myself, but based on your conclusion, I can feel my self esteem dropping.

Of course you should be disappointed OP. Both consoles use midrange cut down laptop GPU cores from 2012. What did you expect?

Don't you just love the wannabe elitist PC gamers polluting this forum with their BS? Yeah, I'm gonna go sell my consoles and stick to my PC now that Joker (fitting name) has laid it all out for us.

Well, it's true, though... Those with high end PC's are so much more better than anyone who enjoys gaming on a console. Like I said, since I enjoy both, I'm not sure what to think of myself.

So... I turn to people like Joker, to seek out his wisdom, to understand exactly how it is I can be "too dumb to build" a nice PC... Yet have done such a thing so many times in my life. Perhaps it was just luck all those times.

Or wait... I know. Perhaps building a PC really isn't so difficult, and his great accomplishments aren't all that special.

NBA 2K14 looks like garbage on PC because of decisions made by the developer. It's a sad state in gaming when any decent midrange gaming PC could easily run the very nice looking next gen versions but for whatever idiotic boardroom beauracracy reason they release crippled versions of NBA 2K on PC year after year.

I'm guessing that NBA2k (along with most other sports games) is not a big seller on the PC, so they decided that it wouldn't be worth the added resources to optimize it. Seems like a sound business decision, and not too "idiotic." But like me, those "idiot" executives aren't as smart as the PC elitists around here.

But yes, any game will look better on the PC than a console, if developed properly. So what?

Not sure why you all care so much.

Look, I like my pc and I do play games on it but it doesn't see half the play time my consoles do because it doesn't get the games. Often times it gets a game so full of problems it is unplayable.

Cool story bro. Still waiting for Kingdom Hearts, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Xillia, Ni no Kuni, The Last of Us, Super Mario 3D World, and more to come out for PC.

that's not true at all. it's my PC's fault that games look better on ps4 and xbox1 than they do on my PC, because my PC's graphics card is like 5 years old. the developers have nothing to do with that. and i don't care either since i don't game on PC.

Well then... Apparently you are an "average Walmart shopper", or are "too dumb" to build a PC. Which is it?

I suppose it can be both. Yeah, my money is on that! ;)

PCs are pretty lousy game machines if you want to play games with people in person next to you or play games on the couch in the living room on the big screen. The biggest reason to play games on the PC is if you just have to have the mouse and keyboard.

Even a midrange pc at one point needs upgraded. Reason people buy consoles is to avoid that. Sure you have a great PC this year and it looks and runs superb but a year or two later to keep it up to date, you have to spend money to upgrade it.

I game on PC and consoles because not every game comes out for all systems. If I see that new games are out on ps4 that I would enjoy playing with friends or on the couch with a controller I don't need to upgrade or change my PC until I get bored of the console or a PC only game requires me to change components.

Sports games are not meant to be played on pc, I couldn't imagine a keyboard setup that'd be good for a basketball game.

I prefer cross platform games on PC for the most part. In general they run faster (load times) and look the same or better. I still use an X360 controller unless it is an FPS.

My main reason for preferring them on PC though is price. If I could get the same games for the same steam-sale price, I'll start going the console route more often. Tack on the convenience of being able to d/l the game to any machine I want it's just more icing on the cake.

The two sides of the coin that is the problem with gamers. The idea that you have to pick one platform or the other is dumb. There are plenty of games I got on PC because they're cheaper than on the Xbox. However, I got plenty of games on the Xbox because playing an FPS with a mouse and keyboard on my bed is a pain, and I wanted exclusives like Halo and Forza.
