When my father in law started showing signs of dementia, my mother in law sold his guns. He never even noticed.
SYG is irrelevant because in jurisdictions without it would generally follow the castle doctrine and he was in his home anyway. The only question is whether he was acting in self-defense, which sounds almost impossible to justify here.
Didn't you read the article? The teenager was black.Castle doctrine doesn't usually apply to anyone outside your home, i.e. on your property but not in your domicle. Though it may apply if they are attempting to break in.
Also, SYG is not something different from self=defense. It just modifies traditional self-defense law so that your choice to kill instead of fleeing can't be second guessed by a jury. However, whether the state has SYG or not, there still must be an imminent physical threat or you have no defense.
He's going to get off. AmeriKKKa doesn't give two about black lives.A sad story indeed. I hope that they throw the book at the shooter. Maximum sentence!
He was my son's roomate while they were at MSA (Missouri Scholar Academy). My son said he was quiet, loved to play his clarinet and very smart. He could not believe that this happened to him.Only in the United States of America. A convergence of two issues which I don't need to sermonize on yet again.
A GoFundMe page for Ralph Yarl has been setup by his family in case you feel moved to contribute. Guess I'll need to open my checkbook.

A Black teenager who was shot after mistakenly going to the wrong house begged neighbors for help — but was ignored, family says
Ralph Yari was ignored three times. A neighbor finally agreed to help him "after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up," his aunt said.www.yahoo.com
Your mindless fear is not justification to shoot someone for knocking on your door, regardless of the hour.I fully believe in stand your ground laws....especially when someone is protecting their home. However I will wait for more details before making a final judgement.
Is the old guy hard of hearing?
Does he have poor eyesight?
Is this a bad neighborhood with high crime?
Was the old guy tired?
Why did the 16 year old go to the wrong house?
Night time can be more confusing....I'd be very careful of opening the door. I'd also be careful of banging on anybody's door I didn't know. Might get shot!!!
Answers in bold. Ringing a doorboor or knocking on a door should never get you shot. You don't have to open the door.
Why not use your .02 and speak up for some solutions?
He mentions solutions, but has and will never vote for anyone to do anything about them. Instead he will continue to vote for the party that keeps making these things worse. For this and any other problem he pretends to be humane about.
It's all a show. Put your vote where your mouth is. Guy is a hypocrite of the biggest kind to make himself feel better about his shitty self.
Is this a joke?
None of those are reasons to indiscriminately fire shots through your front door because someone rings your doorbell at night.
Yeah you beat me to it. Really bizarre post. I wonder the relevance of him being hearing or vision impaired. Is he suggesting that because he couldn't see and/or hear much, he could just assume he was being threatened and fire blindly? How is it OK for him to be even brandishing a firearm while blind as a bet and deaf as a doorknob?
you better think long and hard about coming to your front door armed. Sometimes it isn’t an unarmed 16 year old honors marching band section leader who got the wrong address .State of mind is important:

What are the odds that if it was a black homeowner who shot up a white kid for ringing the wrong bell that you wouldn't be bringing up mens rea?State of mind is important:

Cops were still in the wrong there too. We as a country need to sit down and talk about why we're so hateful and fearful of each other that we're ready to shoot each other at the slightest provocation. Because with countrymen like that, this country won't need enemies.A

Sometimes it’s the cops who got the wrong address and they’ll shoot you in your doorway.

There's no conversation to have. There's a handful of people addicted to money who figured out they can get more money if half the nation hates and fears the other half. Not very complicated.Cops were still in the wrong there too. We as a country need to sit down and talk about why we're so hateful and fearful of each other that we're ready to shoot each other at the slightest provocation. Of course they were. But you can tell from @13Gigatons earlier post he has a little daydream about taking out the bad guys who knock on his door late at night.Cops were still in the wrong there too. We as a country need to sit down and talk about why we're so hateful and fearful of each other that we're ready to shoot each other at the slightest provocation. I've heard that account confirmed. Also the last person (3rd house) who finally helped him forced him to lay face down with his hands behind his back before helping. Well thank God he wasn't shot in such a way where he couldn't reach behind him. He would likely be dead. The tv account I watched said the shooter is 85 years old. He opened the door, told the boy to go away or he'd shoot him, and then he shot him and after he fell down, he shot again. A site I read said the man shot before saying anything and then, after he fell, said “Don’t come around here.”
They said they didn't go for a hate crime charge because the penalty would be less than what they did charge which was assault in the first degree and armed criminal action - not familiar with that one..
Dunno how accurate that all is.
Good news is that the boy has been released from the hospital. Thank goodness the man was a bad shot.
I guarantee @13Gigatons will be on the dark right wing web looking for times Ralph was suspended from school so he can justify the shooting.Nope 13gigatons is completely serious. Just an asshole who always finds a way to justify a person of color being shot.
