Yes this is what happened for me also. I loved the WOTLK and I did enjoy all the new lowbie content in Cata, but personally I found the 80-85 content to be a drag. Not that the zones weren't pretty or the story lines bad but for the me the heavy phasing and disjointed zones turned me off. Instead of feeling cohesive, everything felt disconnected. The Worg/Goblin areas were phased so you didn't have the option of leveling somewhere else from 1 as you could with every other race (exception being DK). I never thought I would say this but the focus on vertical movement actually irritated me. I like the flying mounts as a method of getting from place to place, but there is a definite tradeoff in immersion. In some ways I think flying mounts are doing more harm to the game than anything else, but thats just an opinion. I'm sure it isn't shared by many.
Anyways, I'm optimistic for Panda.
Thats one of the main reasons I got tired of WoW and eventually quit. Also the reason I couldn't get into SWTOR. Flying mounts in WoW I think turned the large world they created into a bunch of individual questing areas. Quest in one area, fly to the next, repeat. There became a real difference for me from playing the whole game and just 'questing'.
