Yeah, single-target was never an issue for me. Although Pallies always do more damage with the same threat, hopefully that will be going away with the removal of the vigilance threat transfer.

I'm not really sure how I'll feel about the new prot Warrior style yet, I was one of the few that didn't mind mashing HS. I guess the style will be mostly the same, really.

I called mid-nov to early december about 9 months ago, so this just puts the release even more into my area. D

Not sure why the portal removal though, Keep your port at dal(or shat till high enough) and you could work your way through ports to wherever you wanted to go. Would like to think this means new portals going up in the major cities, but that probably makes too much sense to implement.

Yes, you should use Magma Totem as your main DPS totem unless you're using Fire Elemental Totem. Just be wary that you can't replant your FE totem, so in a movement heavy fight, it might not be that advantageous (since it makes Fire Nova worthless).

Shaman priorities (watch out using the word "rotation" it sends some elitists into a frothing rage like they're Icehowl or something) tend to vary a lot based on what tier gear you have or totem. But, it's something like...

MWx5 + LB
SW
LS
SS+0
FS
MT
ES
FN
SS
LL

That looks about right. That is more what I do than anything, because of the Tier 10 4-piece bonus, you want to get your MWx5 gone ASAP. I didn't include the Tier 10 2-piece bonus which would push SR right above LS. You might also wanna do SS+0 above LS... I can't remember .

Thanks, 2 things... what's the difference between the 2 SS there? Does it have to do with timing WF proc? And I read MW5 should use chain lightning rather than lightning bolt?

I assume SS+0 means the stormstrike debuff has fallen off. Which, really, is going to be most of the time based on maelstrom procs. And I'm not really convinced that SS with the buff still up should be that low, but again, it almost never happens.

Always LB with maelstrom unless you're doing trash or have the opportunity to hit 2+ units for some reason.

I'd have to review some numbers to get a better feel, but SS could go above FN (especially dependent on whether you have Call of Flame 3/3 and Improved Fire Nova 2/2). The thing is... I would avoid trying to waste SS charges by overwriting them. I believe Magma Totem might even be higher than FS, but I'd have to look to be sure. MT has a pretty high DPCT, which a lot of shamans forgot about for awhile.

A lot of this will be changing in Cata though. We'll be using Searing Totem for all single target since it stacks a DoT that boosts Lava Lash. But that also means LL should be used ASAP once you hit 5 stacks of Searing Flames. It's kind of hard though... as I've been trying it on the PTR and there's very little room for error. Searing Totem attacks every 2 seconds, so once the 5th stack is applied, you have ~2 seconds to use LL before you waste a stack. But in consideration, you're also probably getting another DoT tick from Searing Flames.

But anyway... if you do something a lot like I posted above, you'll do fine. Do realize my warning about totems (item slot ones, not the ones you drop) and tier gear adjusting your priorities. For example, the ilevel 245 enh totem makes you push LL up the list when the buff is not up.

some "good" news

The reason the portals from Shattrath were not removed from Outland when Wrath of the Lich King released is that there was a new central hub with portals to all major cities in Northrend. There is no longer a neutral city hub which both factions will be using in Cataclysm. We want to ensure visiting the major faction capitals is still the most attractive thing to do in Cataclysm, rather than having people use Shattrath and Dalaran as easy connector hubs.

To make up for this, we'd like to add class trainers and Auctioneers in Shattrath and Dalaran for those leveling through The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King content.

Something I've never understood about WoW-Heroes...

My Pally: http://www.wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=us&server=Alleria&name=darrox
My Shammy: http://www.wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=us&server=Alleria&name=darrien

How does my Shaman, who technically has better gear ilevel-wise, have a worse score? He has the bracers from RS25 and other than that, everything is the same (straight down to the ilevel 264 in every slot but one trinket). Is there some internal bias done against players with heroic-based gear?

You know, I've joked in the past about WoW taking up a lot of memory, but this one takes the cake... eats it and bakes another...

This application has encountered a critical error:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Program: D:\World of Warcraft Public Test\WoW.exe
File: .\WowClientDB2.cpp
Line: 473

Requested 1984375765 bytes of memory
Yes... nearly 2TB of memory.

this is some good news:

Rating requirements on PvP Gear
The only item with a meaningful rating requirement is the heroic raid ilvl equivalent weapon (the 2200 weapon). However, unlike the LK seasons there is also a weapon equivalent to the normal raid tier ilvl that has no rating requirement.

So, I haven't played wow for well over a year now. When my son was born 18 months ago I quit raiding altogether and just did quests/PvP and eventually got bored. I am tempted to resub and start playing again for Catacombs --some of the changes look interesting (I'm not gonna lie, I really want heroic leap). I have a DK which I've DPS'd/Tanked with and a Warrior who can also do both. Really not sure which I would like to play--I'm hoping to avoid my past tendencies of playing a bunch of characters at the same time (I have alt-itis bad).

A quick look at the forums reveals nothing new--both classes have their fair share of QQ--and I dont' know enough about the game anymore to know what's real or just crying. I know DK's are going to have their rune system revamped so who knows how that will turn out. Any unbiases guidance out there? I tend to switch regularly between a DPS/tank role, so both characters also have dual spec and epic flyers.

The weird thing is I have a 360 and I'm not bored with it or anything...so I'm not looking for something to fill rec time with or anything. Maybe it's just nastalgia for the years I did play and all the fun I had luring me back.

When it comes to what to play in WoW, it's more about what you enjoy playing the most. Frankly, I don't like DK tanking, so I'd choose the warrior. The biggest change you'll find is that DKs are getting a dedicated tanking tree (blood).

Most of what I'm saying is probably months-behind-worthy, but I really like the fact that heroic badge rewards are blue.

I haven't played my Warrior or raided since January, but most of the tanking changes I find underwhelming. The block change is good, I guess. I love the parry change for the most part, now it's actually somewhat worth (probably not really, but at least it won't be painful to see on gear) the extra cost vs. dodge. The warrior +crit on parry talent helps that too.

Looks like DKs will still have their million cooldowns. I'm also not a big fan of the fact that DKs+Bears get an absorb ability on their mastery, vs. the block mastery that Warriors+Pallies get. Further stretching the spell damage gap between tanks, assuming no base mechanic has been changed with block that I haven't heard about. They had better at least equalize the HP properly this expansion.

Yeah, that doesn't sound biased at all!.

@David, in general every tank is capable of tanking every mob. Both classes currently offer competitive DPS, so it's really a matter of play style. Maybe someone in beta can offer a tad more insight to cata, but I don' expect this to change much.

How do both classes fair in PvP?

When I quit, the DK was better for PvP (to me at least) because of the ability to self heal and it was nice to have so many tools in the bag to use, ie. mind freeze, strangulate, grip, Ice bound fortitude, ghouls/ghoul sacrifice, the AoE abilities such as howling blast (when specc'd of course), pestilence to spread some dots...

From that it sounds like I'm leaning toward a DK, but there are alot of things about warriors I like as well...prot was awesome, charge is awesome, if/when heroic leaps is implemented I'll love it, their armor is nearly always awesome, MS is great, I miss my 1h fury from Pre-wotlk days...

I've read some things recently about the new DK passive causing random runes to reset is actually making tanking on them harder, but I haven't tried it personally.

I need something to do until release. I reinstalled the other day because I thought it would be out in November :(

My new War will be Mining/BS. I already have all of the BoA gear (probably going to level prot, have 1h, chest, shoulders, trinket, gun, and 2x 2H just in case). I'm currently farming BS leveling mats, but that shouldn't take too long. I just finished thorium (x430) in about two days very casually, going to work on iron and mithril next. Those seem to be the biggest sticking points. Maybe outlands/northrend mats after that, not sure how short I'll be on those for leveling. I assume I'll only have to get to 25 below the current cap before I can use cataclysm mats, as usual?

That might take a week or two, but then I dunno what to do. I have no interest in doing useless things. I already have 8k gold ready for the mount and such. Hmm.

Mithril is the worst mineral to get. The best place is probably The Hinterlands. You'll end up cursing everytime you see a Truesilver Deposit :p.

If I remember correctly, Badlands is more populated with Iron Deposits. The one thing to remember about The Hinterlands is that there are nodes over at Seradane (the emerald dragonflight area).

of the old metals, mithril in general is the crappiest to gather. thorium is next crapiest, not for hindarance in gathering but how much you need. will be interesting to see how original resources change with the zones being all switched around in the next couple of months.
