To go with a 7950x, what do you think of this ram:

I'll be watching the for sale forums like a hawk.

It might be hard to beat the MC deal even on a used one. The 7800X3D I grabbed a few months ago (along with the open box B650 Tomahawk that I mentioned earlier) was a hair over $200 after tax and the 5% MC card discount applied. I figured out recently that you can add any motherboard and any memory kit on the site to your cart and get the bundle discount to apply to any CPU that is included in any of the bundles. It doesn't even matter if the components are compatible with each other, and you can do open box boards/kits and still get the discount to apply. 7800X3D is currently about $225 with a board and kit in the cart.

100% accurate. I want it, but my better sense asks what the hell I am going to do with it? Don't need all those cores. It amounts to window shopping I suppose. But it is helpful to see what you knowledgeable folks are currently judging as bang for buck winners.

To me it's worse than the 7800X3D due to the iffy software support needed to choose the right cores. The only way to make it strictly better is to turn off the non-X3D CCD and get 200mhz over the 7800X3D, but something feels wrong about paying for a top end chip and turning half of it off.

I've been running my 7950X3D with the HF CCD turned off since shortly after release. I have the VCache CCD running at 5.3GHz in most games. 5.1GHz to 5.3GHz in heavily threaded games like Cyberpunk 2077.

Yep. Ryzen 7700X is $480 AUD in local stores and I got it for $395AUD with free grobal shipping( I have prime). It was this cheap cause of prime day sales. It’s back to $525AUD now on Amazon.

As long as you're talking about the ATX version that should be a rock solid choice. I haven't personally used one, but I don't see any reason to avoid it if it meets your needs. The MATX B650M PG Lightning looks like a hard pass though. Avoid that one for sure.

I can defintely tell the difference in smoothness. DDR5 is pretty good coming from DDR4. Thats my upgrade journey complete.

Custom fan curve. RPM <1100 is quiet. The Spirit keeps the 7700X around 60-70C when gaming and around 90C under very heavy 100% load. Very good cooler for $30USD.

While this is not exactly something to "build", other than possibly buying your own memory and SSD, but this is a very nice Mini PC from Minis Forum.

They had a Phoenix based one, with some deficiencies in terms of connectivity. The brand new model, just starting to ship at the end of July improved IO capability, mainly added DisplayPort, 2x USB4, 2x 2.5Gb Ethernet. And also, swaps Phoenix for HawkPoint 8945HS.

Operating System compatibility says Windows 11, but I wonder if Window 10 can be installed as well. Since HawkPoint has only full cores, it does not need OS scheduling.

Looking at AMD web site, it looks like AMD is supporting Windows 10 for HawkPoint.

How do you guys feel about the contact frame? The Thermalright is dirt cheap and super easy to install. Pointless for AM5 or arguably essential like skt 1700?

I have no idea, but no matter what you'll have far fewer watts of heat you need to dissipate, so I doubt it'll make much difference.
