Wow. My friend actually got married after 90 days...

Arranged marriages tend to go hand-in-hand with strict religious principles that forbid divorce. I'd be more interested in a study that controlled for such cultural variables.

Yep. My girlfriend's parents are religious crazy people who would never divorce under any condition. If they didn't have such strong religious convictions, they would have split apart long ago.

I would never take marriage so lightly as to marry so quickly. I would want to make sure that person is the one and you can only figure that out over the course of years, not months or weeks.

meh I got married precisely 363 days after meeting my wife, and we were acting married (living together etc) months before that, worked out fine

The Japanese still practice Omagi's (sp?) which is arranged marriages today. And it's quite common. The Japanese are not religious at all. They are also very culturally different though.

Right, I really should have said "cultural convictions" rather than religious principles, but my point still stands.

Dammit, I didn't even think of that. So much time wasted. 🙁

And unless I'm missing something, all pcgeek is trying to say is that an (absolute) statement such as 'getting married after 90 days will never work' is wrong. He's not saying it's a good idea - just that it "can" work, contrary to what some people here are claiming.

I'm glad that some in this forum have a brain. You have it exactly.

My first marriage was to my high-school sweetheart. We dated for 5 years, married, and it lasted 4 years to the day before I left her psycho ass. I swore I'd never get married again.

A few years later I was introduced to a young lady and knew instantly that she was the one. Our first date was in August, we moved in together in December, and we were married in the beginning of January. Now going on 23+ years.

It is impossible for someone to be ready to marry someone a mere 90 days after meeting them. You haven't even begun to scratch the surface of a person after such a short time.

Impossible according to who? You really need to cut out on making generalizations. The parents of a friend started dating in June and got married in August on the same year. That was 40 years ago and they are still together.

Sometimes, people just meet the right one and they just click regardless of the time frame. There's nothing impossible about that.

My wife and I dated a couple of month before she moved in with me, and we were married about 6 months later. In June, we'll be married 36 years. (met in October, married in June)

(Hey, you don't buy shoes without trying them on first!)

One of my brother-in-laws knew he wanted to marry his wife on their first date. Asked her at the end of it and they got married 3 months later. They've been together 16 years now. Had a friend who's brother met his wife in a cab on the way back from the airport. They got married a week later and have been together almost 20 years. I guess it just depends on the people.

That's cute 🙂

So you agree that is it not a good idea?
