Wow, I guess my Credit Union can stop locking up their money now, since no one has robbed it lately.
This makes no sense - people rob banks all the time so those precautions are appropriate. The amount of in-person voter fraud is so low it is effectively zero, even in states that lack an ID requirement.

So to make a more accurate analogy, if no one had robbed any bank in the country for 30 years, would you support your bank raising rates to make an ultra secure new vault? Of course not, that would be irrational in the same way that voter ID is irrational. It solves a problem that doesn’t exist.

I’m sure you’d be ok with banks keeping money of some of its users or making it harder for them to get their money out because reasons, right?

How did primitive Americans do elections before all these voter ID laws? How much fraud was conducted then?
how would you know how much fraud was conducted? oh wait thats right everyone on this site is psychic! no fraud ever happens with voting.. /eye rolls over and over

I'm sure you are capable of working out why that attempted analogy doesn't work at all.
My bigger question is why people cant understand that a comment was obviously made is jest.

And what it takes to get one. States that are now just outright suppressing voters will simply raise the bar to get said ID. It's all pieces of the same puzzle.
I'm a well off white dude living in suburbia and to get my driver's license renewed it took me 3 months to get an appointment, and then 6 weeks to receive it in the mail. To get the ID I had to have two forms of other ID, and at least 2 utility bills. This is a barrier to voting and just ridiculous in general.

Of course I had no idea they had changed thing process, so I went to get a new ID 2 weeks before it expired, just like normal and I was told about the new process. I called 10 different tag offices to get an appointment only 3 months out and I had to take time off work to do it.

Also, checking IDs makes the lines go significantly slower.

How many studies do you need?

On the same token, apparently you know how much fraud there is because you are willing to disenfranchise people over it. What's that? You have no fucking clue how much fraud there is? Yeah no shit.

Anecdotally, most of the older Republicans I know make an effort to get out and vote, even if it means standing in line. Many younger Democrats or independents I know have to be motivated and almost paid to get off their asses to go vote. I'm sure statistics by age would bear this out. We need to make it easier and more convenient for everyone to vote, even the lazy kids that don't want to, and for the disadvantaged folks that actually want to.

That's just crazy talk! Democracy only works when the right people vote!

$1000.00 tax credit or $500 cashiers check to vote in main November annual election.

Done.

Cannuck here, I never understand the issue you guys have on ID. We doesn't need to register to vote, in election time gov mail you a notice and tell you the voting center closest to your house. You bring ID, Driver Lic, Health Card, Citizenship, passport...etc of your choose. Health card and Citizenship are free(I think). Moved? You can change your address online, even if you don't change your address gov will send the notice to your new address automatically - don't ask me how.

So what's the issue here? Homeless? How many homeless are truely homeless with no address and no one else? In USA you must have some kind of ID after birth right?
The glaring thing you left out is you don’t have to have a government issued photo ID to vote here in Canada. There are about 40 different ways you can identify yourself to vote.

Unfortunately, when these laws get passed they are incredibly restrictive. Thats the point of them. To make it harder so people just won’t bother.

Here's one example for you, find others by Googling.
Many groups, particularly Native Americans (First Nations) do not have what you would call an address. Or Mail service even if they did. Or a "Birth Certificate", or anywhere within hundreds of miles to get one, for that matter.

So this is a systematic issue?

You're right there are about 40 different ways we can ID myself here but the main pcs is the voter info card that gov send by mail, without that you can't vote.

Yes and the main ID here is a drivers’ license but Canada purposefully makes it so people who lack that ID can vote. Republicans here are trying to make it so those without that ID cannot.

Not necessarily. Have a neighbour vouch for you and you can vote, as long as you show up with a written declaration you are who you say you are.

Probably have a few copies of form letters handy at the polling station already.
I think the longest I have waited is like 30 min and it was due to some delay.

Well they do that here (in UK) also, but contrary to what many, even most, people seem to think, you don't actually _have_ to have that card with you to vote. You just tell them your name and address and they cross you off the list and you vote. Seems to work well enough.

There have been a handful of occasions over the decades when it's been reported that people have turned up to vote and found someone had already voted in their name - but the number of such incidents seems tiny. If that started happening a lot, maybe there'd be an argument for changing the system.

I think the place where it happened the most was Northern Ireland, for probably obvious reasons.

Until voting ids are made more universal it's suppression. In Texas you can vote with a gun license but not a college id. Let's guess how those demographics vote.

The GOP is literal scum.

You obviously believe otherwise, so show your work. Where is this voting fraud evidence/proof hiding out?
Classic moron reply, if i cant prove 1 million cases that means that it doesn't exist.. i love how people always make some big "PROVE IT OR ELSE YOUR ...." comments.

i dont give a shit about anyone's feelings, but obviously you think peoples feelings are more important than the integrity of the system... right? If you don't have a ID what kind of citizen are you? sounds like a non productive one that doesn't pay taxes,

Imagine how great the world would be if everyone shared responsibilities. Oh but that might hurt someone's feelings right. DOWN WITH AMERICA lets make a new nation called Freeica everything free for everyone, we can go back to dirt roads and everyone self policing. oh wait how would all your friends get welfare then? ugh

How terrible.

My god you righties are horrific and terrible people at heart. Deplorables was really just a nice way to put it.

ALL Institutions? hahaha talk about dumb.. generalizing shit is the epitome of stupidity. I've never seen a hologram on a college ID, have you seen a passport or drivers license lately and can honestly say it compares to a college ID that hundreds of people at the campus have access to printing?

/edit.. im sure there are a few colleges with some damn good security on the ID, but does that mean you group them all together and say College ID is good to go? guess that doesnt work does it..
