Why are we Californians charged such high gas prices now?

Remember when gas was over $3.00 over ALL of the nation? Not to say that's going to happen, but count your blessings. Gas in America is actually cheaper than in most of the world. When I was in Spain, petrol was about $1/liter. At about 3.8 liters to 1 US gallon, that's $3.80 a gallon. Most places were more.

Tougher environmental laws I guess.

I think that's BS.

But it's true. CA laws require special formulations that increase the cost of gas in your state. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

And that still doesn't explain the 30-40 cent increase over the last month. It's gone up for no good reason, oil prices aren't up.

I live in northern Maryland, and its the same here also.. up 30 cents in the past three weeks.. from $2.19 to $2.49

Granted, its not "California" prices, but its still a raping.

Don't worry it won't stay there. Your state assembly wants to raise the tax another .12¢ a gallon.

I love the CA mindset of "not in my backyard" but then expect everyone to bend over backwards providing them with the things they don't want to produce in state and then bitch about the price. This will continue to bite you in the ass and one day it will be your undoing.
That can be applied to pretty much anything in CA.
I also love it when they come in here and say "all you people would die without us!! We have everything! We are the leet!".
I think CA is the one state that could probably disappear or fall off the coast and the whole country would not only fail to miss it, but would also be a little better for it.

I doubt it. Most of your entertainment comes from CA. As well as a huge IT industry.

Because you keep voting in leftist hippies for your state government who pass high gas taxes and the strictest environmental laws in the nation.

Arnold is a leftist hippie?

Oh yes, because you know that Arnold has complete and total power in CA and is responsible for laws passed years before he took office. He is the terminator, ya know.

Well you said they 'keep voting in leftist hippies for your state government'. Obviously this time they didn't.

This is why politics fail so often. Idiots always focus on the figureheads rather than the people who really make the laws.

CA's state legislature and local governments are overwhelmingly leftist.

BTW, gas in my area is $1.07L right now. Second highest i've ever seen it, and it's been like this for almost a week.

More people in the area so prices go up to squeeze every penny they can.

Looks like the same is true on the east coast.

Gas prices are highest where local areas/states have the highest gas taxes and strictest environmental regulations.

And yes, overhead costs (rent, labor, etc.) figure in as well, but not nearly as much as the main two reasons.

Mr. Cheney? Is that you?

You don't like the truth so you figure you will be a smart ass? How about CA also having one of the highest taxes on gasoline or the fact that they have to import much of it because it is not produced in state? You are one of those conspiracy idiots, huh?

Things may have changed in last couple years but AFAIK, CA does not import gasoline for the simple reason that only refineries in CA can produce gasoline (at a "reasonable cost") that meets CA emission standards. I used to work at the Tosco refinery in L.A. and know a couple of folks who work at Tosco and Chevron in L.A.

But this does make CA a closed market...so if one or two refineries in CA experience problems or haul back on production for repairs/maintenance... gas prices in CA shoot up due to low supply in the face of steady/increasing demand.

Before too long, CA is going to have to allow refineries to expand to meet demand...or folks in CA will be paying 5 bucks a gallon.

If you look at the map, and correlate gas prices with red state/blue state, you can see a correlation between democrats and gas prices.

Actually that would correlate to prices in general and high costs of livings also. They sure make life better for everyone, don't they?

Blue states tend to be high in population density. Look at the 3D map about halfway down the page. Population-dense areas have a high cost of living. To suggest that Democrats somehow caused this is ridiculous.

In any case, people in these areas (e.g., California) keep voting Democrats into office despite the fact that they raise taxes. Given that voters keep electing them, the benefits of having Democrats in office must outweigh the drawbacks of higher taxes.

I wish prices would go up like that here in Colorado... love to see these poser SUV's get punished in the wallet 😀

You hate SUVs so much that you'd like to see everyone, including yourself hurt to annoy SUV owners?

That makes no sense whatsoever. I can assure you that most all SUV owners can and will deal with high gas prices. One doesn't buy an SUV for the good fuel economy.

dude, honestly i see a lot more full size trucks on the road than SUV's. take a drive down I-25, I-76, I-270, Bouder turnpike, E-470 and start counting.

this is true, the gas is piped in to a cool mixing yard, mixed at each companies specs (additives, cleaners and such) and then trucked to sites across the state. there was as refinery fire a few weeks ago, and here in az they were predicting prices over 2.50 again. its there now, was 2.52 on the way to work this morning.

Yes, of course, What idiot family person in their right mind would buy a high passenger capacity all wheel drive vehicle in a state known for high amounts of snow 6 months out of the year and mountainous terrain?

Those stupid bastards!

That's why I hate California, and would never live there. You know that everything is more expensive in California, so why live there? One bedroom apartments are $1500/mo....1500 sw ft homes are $500,000. Why live there?
