83-87% of cigarette smokers who smoke more than 26 cigarettes a day believe they are addicted.

Almost half the smokers who undergo surgery for lung cancer resume smoking.

Even after smokers have had their larynxes removed, 40% try smoking again.

Wow! Why are cigs even legal!? If you replace cigarrette with crack and heard someone was trying to smoke more crack after having their larynxes removed it would make your head spin. I guess America has grown immune to the real threat these things are.

I've even seen old women and men being wheeled out to a smoking area in a wheelchair and oxygen tank in tow to have a cigarette. Definition of a sad thing to see?

Or how about recently I saw a car pull up, a mother in the passenger side maybe 80 or so w/ o2 tank), windows up daughter smoking away. I bet it would be a safe bet that cigs did that to Mom and daughter still does it.

Please continue thread crapping, avoiding the thread topic in exchange for personal insults.

So you can't? Is that what I'm getting out of this repeating nonsense of yours? Quite childish but I didn't really expect less after seeing your posts around here. Good day to you! :D

So some old lady is going to die and wants a cig. So what? If a cig will make her happy, who the hell are you to say anything? Mind your bees wax.

No, see, I'm just toying with you because you're not interested in actually contributing to the conversation. The only thing you're interested in is arguing and trolling. It's like a parent having a real conversation with adults while dangling something shiny over their baby's face to keep them occupied.

*pats you on your head

now shh, junior, let the adults get back to their conversation

What people are failing to understand about this whole damn argument is how if it's made illegal, that's not going to curb anything. It's illegal to drive without your seatbelt on (but I'm sure many a non-smoker chooses to do that) and also illegal to not use your turn signal when changing lanes (thereby endangering others.. again I'm sure many of you self-righteous non-smokers do).

I wouldn't dream of smoking inside a building, except a bar. Doing so is inconsiderate. However, my choice to smoke or not is of no concern to you anyway. Smokers don't treat non-smokers poorly because they choose not to smoke. Non-smokers need to get a clue and fuck off. It's our choice. Deal with it.

Because they have no grounds to. It's the cleaner healthier choice. I put chronic smokers on the same level as alcoholics. Casual cig smoking is fine, but I still fail to see the attraction. If I see a hot chick and she lights up a cig, 90% of my attraction evaporates. Now cigars and pipes, once again used casually if not rarely, are a different story. They can at least look sophisticated and almost always smell a hell of a lot better.

More or less, but I don't blame non-smokers for looking down on smokers in general. If I'm in the car behind a smoker and it gets sucked in through the intakes I won't honk or anything, but I'll definitely be annoyed. Cig smokers choose to put themselves down in non-smokers' eyes IMO, criticism comes with the territory.

Oh, sure, I can understand why non-smokers look down on smokers. I just don't agree with them making a stink about it (u c wut i did thar?).

"Criticism."

If it annoys them and they already look down on said smokers, why shouldn't they make a stink about it? Sure some take it too far, but like I said, comes with the territory, and smokers shouldn't bitch about it IMO. People bitch about work every day. The only reason they don't bitch in front of their bosses is because their boss controls their job. Smokers as a whole don't have that luxury.

They shouldn't be bitching at work. It lowers morale which, in turn, lowers productivity. They're making the work place worse by bitching about it. People need to keep their goddamn opinions to themselves :p

Besides, they choose to work there. It's their own damn fault they're in that position.

Same goes for non-smokers. If there's some smoker out on the corner tuggin a drag and you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Actually, non-smokers need to STFU and mind their own damn business.

Way to go. If you can't beat them, join them. Then you can bitch about yourself along with them.

Those who don't want to smoke: don't

Those who don't want to smoke and also want to cram their snobby hypocritical opinion down everyone else's throats and control everyone else's lives instead of minding your own goddamn business: fuck you, get bent, shut the hell up

Why shouldn't the smoker go elsewhere? No one wants to smell that, and the other people probably aren't asking you to smell their shit or leave.

I'd actually like to see some data to back up the claim that smokers cause highway brush fires. How often do highway brush fires occur? How many of them are proven to be because of a tossed cig?

I bet the guy behind you getting a wiff of your exhaust feels the same way about you.

the one making the claim is the one responsible for backing it up with evidence

Who cares how "clean" cars are getting. Close your garage, turn on your car, and you'll die.

Close your garage, buy out every sig in a 5 mile radius and smoke them all. You'll cough.

People who whine about smokers are whiny ignorant hypocrites.

It's part of living in a community; the world doesn't revolve around you (referring to people who whine about smokers). Just like having to deal with loud neighbors prior to noise ordinance time of day, there are just some things folks need to put up with. If they don't like it, they're free to leave :)

There are plenty of ways of getting to work. Drivers choose to drive. They choose to buy a car. They choose to keep filling it with gas. They choose to buy insurance. They choose to get into the driver's seat and turn the key.

Vehicles are NOT a requirement in life.

You can walk. You can ride a bike. You can skip. You can pogo-stick to work for all we care.

You CHOOSE to drive.

Who cares, so are cigs. You've got a psychological addiction to it like smokers have a physical addiction to their nicotine.

You choose where to live. You choose where to work. You choose where to drop off your kids. The distance you travel is your choice, plain and simple.

You choose the industry to work in. You choose to keep that job.

I'm not saying you should do anything differently. I'm just saying that your life is all about your own choices. Period.

Smokers don't walk up to non-smokers and light up just to be dicks. This guy is a dick just to be a dick.

Non-smokers act like they own the planet, dictating the lives of others, thinking that they're better human beings than smokers simply because of a choice not to smoke. It's like they're on their high horse pointing down at smokers going shame on you.

Basically, if you don't want to smell the smoke, close your window. Go to some other part of the city park. Walk down some other street. Roll up the window in your car and close the outside vents.

If it's inside a closed space where ventilation is an issue, sure, I can see where non-smokers would have a legit gripe. But it's these asswipes that bitch and moan that they can smell smoke while in their car (which smells a LOT worse and is a LOT more deadly than a cig, fucking hypocrites) or it's these asswipes that make faux-cough noises while passing a smoker who's standing on the corner waiting for the crosswalk sign to change or something equally stupid.

Everybody's tastes are different. I can't stand the smell of a lot of indian food, yet there's a billion people who'll look at me like I'm insane if I tell them they're eating somethign that smells like shit.

I think cig smoke smells GREAT. I like the smell of some brands better than others, too.

The difference is you need to eat and the smell doesn't physically harm anyone. Smoking is a choice that releases poison into the air. And i wouldn't typically give a shit because I've smoked when i was younger and it doesn't bother me much. I just hate when smoke flies into my 6 month old daughters face as we are walking out of a restaurant or store. she doesn't need to breath that shit.

Ya? I'm sure there are health nuts out there who'd belittle you just as much for stuffing your daughter's face with unhealthy foods.

The point is, fuck off! If you don't like the way someone else is living their life, tough freaking shit.

The daughter reference was an example. I couldn't care less what he feeds her, but I'm sure some cunty douche does and wouldn't have any problems bitching at him for it -in which case I'd fully expect him to tell the douche to mind their own business, which is what smokers are doing to uppity whining non-smoker assholes who try controlling everyone else's life.

I wouldn't dare smoke in a plane. However, while having a cig this past weekend standing around the back side of a building with several other smokers out of the way of non-smoker traffic, some fucktarded kid walked past us and stopped just to tell us that cigs kill and polute and he didn't like how it smells. I was like WHAT?! NO WAY. then I dropped my cig, stepped on it, said wow, thank you so much for saving my life and then promptly lit up another one, flipped him off, told him to get lost because nobody asked for his fucking opinion.

I can't STAND people who can't mind their own business.

Yes... nicotine can have a calming affect.

should I continue?

Every day, I work with a guy who wears 10 gallons of cologne. It's atrocious and is strong enough to make me sick at times. Do I bitch? Of course not.

In the situation you quoted, the smoker is out in public. He has every right to be there and smoke. You have every right to be there, but you have no right to dictate to him what he can and cannot do or tell him where he can and cannot be. Don't like it? Tough shit.

Cigarrette smoke is a KNOWN CARCINOGEN. You're not going to get tumors on your lungs by smelling colonge, but you are increasing the risk of that happening to anyone that smells your smoke.

See the difference? Because of an addictive habit a smoker is putting other people at risk and then trying to justify it by saying "I can do whatever I want to myself". That would be fine- if it was only affecting the smoker. They can't seem to understand that.

I actually would comment to the guy, politely, about his cologne. I'd talk to HR about him disrupting the work environment if it was really extreme. As for the example, the smoker in question is forcing the effects of his habit on everyone else. Do I have the right, in public, to stick my finger up my ass and make everyone within an 8' radius smell it? Telling them to deal with it or fuck off? Hell in most places you can't even drink on public property, even if you don't get drunk.

If you don't like my cig smoke while I'm standing outside, then go away. It won't affect you if you walk away. In fact, getting all up in my face about it is probably a good way to inhale even more of it, completely defeating your point :p

No he's not. If he were, he'd be making a point to walk up to everyone he sees and blow smoke in their face. Smoker's don't do this because we mind our own business, just like non-smokers should do.
