You guys are ridiculous. So many bleeding hearts. Most smokers don't smoke so much that they'll die from lung cancer at 50, or forsake food to buy smokes. But even if they do, that's helping you - more food and lower health care bills (they die earlier) for you! Just live and let live. I don't smoke regularly since I just don't like the buzz that much unless I'm having a drink, but I understand people who do. Just fuck off and mind your own business.

Nik,

Note that I mentioned "old lady hole in the throat addictive kind". I'm unsure what would make a non-addicted casual smoker want to smoke.

However casual smokers (those who aren't physically addicted) are quite the minority.

I don't think my view is out of touch for "most" - (i.e. addicted smokers) of which the physiological and psychological reaction that I mentioned - holds true.

Nik - gratz on not being addicted. Keep on smoking and I guarantee one day you might just become a hole in the throat addicted smoker.

I'd like to see some links for the statistics you're stating (casual smokers in the minority, etc). If not, then I'll just consider you pulling bullshit out your ass trying to justify you sticking your nose in other people's business.

If you're unsure what would make a non-addicted casual smoker want to smoke, you clearly don't know the first thing about smokers.

Some quick googling:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/138711.php

http://www.mcmaster.ca/health/pdf/Web%20- Health Topic - Casual Smoking.pdf

And the nail in the coffin -
From the horses mouth:

http://www.philipmorrisinternational.com/PMINTL/pages/eng/smoking/FDA.asp

87% of smokers do so every day.

That is a US government backed study mandated by the MSA published by the biggest purveyor of tobacco today.

Granted I'm sure not every one of those 87% are actually addicted, but I can infer a majority are. If you need more proof than that Nik, I cannot help you nor do I have time for it.

If you're unsure what would make a non-addicted casual smoker want to smoke, you clearly don't know the first thing about smokers.

As a former addict, and the friend of thousands of other addicts and non-addicts, I certainly understand smokers. I still fail to see why someone would intentionally smoke in this day and age besides being addicted, or maybe being young or just plain stupid.

How old are you and how long have you been smoking? Because for 99% of smokers it is a physical addiction and the longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit.

BTW-I am a former smoker, I started smoking when I was around 15 years old and quit cold turkey when I was 21, I was smoking almost a pack a day by that time. Cigarette smoke doesn't really bother me, but then again, I'm almost never around it. Nobody in my office smokes and smoking isn't allowed in most public buildings or in the workplace in California.

83-87% of cigarette smokers who smoke more than 26 cigarettes a day believe they are addicted.

Almost half the smokers who undergo surgery for lung cancer resume smoking.

Even after smokers have had their larynxes removed, 40% try smoking again.

Wow! Why are cigs even legal!? If you replace cigarrette with crack and heard someone was trying to smoke more crack after having their larynxes removed it would make your head spin. I guess America has grown immune to the real threat these things are.

It's not just Americans. It affects everyone that way...doesn't matter what country you live in or what your nationality is.

How many smokers smoke more than 26 cigs a day? Good fucking grief!

Still, doesn't justify whining pinheads from sticking their nose in my business.

I'm ALL about minding my own business. However, when smokers gather outside right below my bedroom window and chain smoke, it becomes my business. When my lawn is covered in cigarette butts, that's more of my business. It's everyone's business when the butts leak chemicals into the ground which end up in water supplies.

Other then that, smoke yourself to death for all I care.

lol wow

I actually don't think that I am. Every smoker I know - and thats a few dozen right now, smokes at least a packa day. I know of a single casual smoker. My brother. He is on and off the wagon every other week. WIth that I bid the entire smoking debate good day. I'm outta time for the subject today. I hope I made an impact on somebody, And I hope folks realize how bad smoking is for you, no matter the amount. You of course are free to tell me to sod off.

I'll smoke if I'm drinking and partying which isn't often. My daily average is less than one per day.

You would appear to be in the extreme minority.

From 1965 to 2006, rates of smoking in the United States have declined from 42% to 20.8%. The majority of those who quit in were professional, affluent men. Despite this decrease in the prevalence of consumption, the average number of cigarettes consumed per person per day increased from 22 in 1954 to 30 in 1978. This paradoxical event suggests that those who quit smoked less, while those who continued to smoke moved to smoke more light cigarettes. This trend has been paralleled by many industrialized nations as rates have either leveled-off or declined. In the developing world, however, tobacco consumption continues to rise at 3.4% in 2002. In Africa, smoking is in most areas considered to be modern, and many of the strong adverse opinions that prevail in the West receive much less attention. Today Russia leads as the top consumer of tobacco followed by Indonesia, Laos, Ukraine, Belarus, Greece, Jordan, and China.

That's nice.

I really don't care, because that's their decision and I'm adult enough to respect their opinion and their choice regardless of how I feel about it :p

What I care about is some fuckwad getting in my face when I'm having a smoke.

smoking is the biggest waste of money for a person to have and the smelliest addiction in life.

I don't really care either. However, I'd be surprised if you could keep your smoking limited to only when you drink throughout your lifetime...most people can't.

I live in a state that has outlawed smoking in pretty much every public building, beach, or park so I am rarely exposed to cigarette smoke. I am thankful for that and I fully support those laws.

I wouldn't dream of smoking inside a building, except a bar. Doing so is inconsiderate. However, my choice to smoke or not is of no concern to you anyway. Smokers don't treat non-smokers poorly because they choose not to smoke. Non-smokers need to get a clue and fuck off. It's our choice. Deal with it.
