Ah, gotcha. Watching a few videos = playing a game.

I don't get people like you who love bashing the shit out of a game before it's even released. Anyway, enjoy your angst, most of us will probably go have a blast playing it.
Your logic fails. Why do I need to play the game to know it's got little in common with the originals, and that in fact most of what made the originals so great has been removed? I don't need to play it... Bethesda has TOLD us so.

Would you also like me to gnaw my arm off before I tell you that self-amputation is really fucking painful?

It might even be an enjoyable game in its own right, but it's certainly not a Fallout game. That's what I take issue to. I'd have preferred it if Bethesda made this first-person mangled hybrid shooter and just called it something else.

The bolded part is hilarious :p

Back to the topic. Even though bethesda sais it's not really true to fallout 1/2, it might still be a cool game. Sure, you can be disgruntled about them killing the franchise, but it could still be a cool game :p

I loved the original Fallout games, so much that I think it's my favorite franchise ever. Fallout 3 will not be a true Fallout game for many reasons, but I'm still looking forward to a post-apocalyptic FPS with massive environments.

Well then we merely had a misunderstanding. I took your displeasure to be a result of your negative impression of the game based on its own merits ("soulless garbage"), and not based on its lack of continuity/style/story/etc from F1/F2. That you admit it may very well be an enjoyable game settles our differences.

I just can't get any attention up for Fallout 3. Bethesda's 'Oblivion-ization' of the game looks like it will be ruined, after one's eye's get used to the visual candy. I might pick it up in the bargain bill a few months after release, but I'm not going to rush out on opening day to pick it up.

Sorry jonks, I may not have been clear. I think it could be enjoyable, but not necessarily good. I still think it'll lack depth, but that's just because of my gripes over the ongoing consolization of PC games, and is a separate complaint from my big Fallout issues.

Can you tell I'm bitter over the state of gaming? :) You should see me when I get going about that goddamned butcher Peter Jackson!

Yeah I'm getting it because it looks like a great game. Oblivion was pretty mediocre originally but a bunch of mods made that one of the best games ever. I'm glad they haven't just based the game around the whims of the old fallout community that just whines about Bethesda killing their franchise. Don't like it? There's no one forcing you to buy the game. Just keep playing Fallout 1/2 over and over.

I never understood this line of reasoning, why even call it Fallout if you aren't going to try to follow the original Fallout games at all. The game looks ok, but why spend millions of dollars on an IP to make a game that's not really inline with the IP. Honestly they could have just made it a new franchise and it probably would have sold just as well, because most people I talk to that are hyped for it are people that didn't even play the first games.

It's unlikely it would have sold "just as well" if it was called Apocalyptia or something. They've had a staggering amount of free press and media coverage on this thing and that is because it is called F3. The $6M they dropped on the license is chump change compared to what the game will bring in. 120,000 copies will cover that. F3 will sell millions across the PC and consoles. Wait till the commercials start airing.

Those trailers are all up in HD on Gametrailers.com. They're demoing it on a XBOX 360, and you can bet it will look better on a PC with superior hardware (SLI, CPU, etc, etc). So prepare to have fun PC folks!

Hey, so long as Fallout 3 is better than any of the retarded sequels we got after Fallout 2, I'll be happy. It won't be hard.

I recall Peter Jackson being a butcher in Bad Taste. Did he play a butcher in other movies as well? I'm pretty sure he just played minor stand-in parts when he directed LOTR

Yes, I'm being a smartass :)

How "inline" does the game need to be? For instance, does Fallout Tactics deserve the Fallout name?

From what I've seen, it feels like a Fallout game transferred to modern hardware. Perhaps it will be a little too much like Oblivion (I dislike the lack of a general overhead map), but most of its features make it feel like another Fallout game to me.

I love Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. The rest of the Fallout franchise has been utter shit, and by your standard don't really belong to the franchise. In any case, I'm expecting something new from Fallout 3, but I will find every similarity delightful.

Unfortunately I won't have a 'better' PC, so I'm now torn on whether to get it for my PC that ran Oblivion very well, or PS3, which I don't like to play FPS games on.

Edit: Want to add this:

The Survival Guide

Um... wow.

Who's to say it will be bad on the PS3? It probably will be just as good, if not better in some respects, at least on a PS3 it's easier to get surround sound and if you have the SIXAXIS rumble pad you'll have built in rumble. The ONLY thing you won't have access to is downloadable content when it becomes available as those are just 360 and PC version exclusives. To be honest I probably would have gotten this for my PS3 had it not been $10 more expensive than the PC version.

Man, after watching the PAX videos, I'm EXTREMELY jazzed. I'm a HUGE Fallout 1&2 fan, and, IMHO, I think this is DOES do the game justice.

Do I wish the old BI guys did this? Of course! I also wish I'd win the lottery. Wish in one hand and...

I can't wait to get exploring. I just wish I had more vacation time to put in some dedicated gameplay! :)

I know plenty about the history of the development of this game, and what it is and is not, but this place has become too thick with trolls to actually have interesting discussions about this game anymore.

Suffice to say that I'll love it if only for the genre, in which the earth has been gloriously depopulated of most of you! :)

"Who's jazzed about Fallout 3?"

Not me.

Sorry, but, looks retarded. Like a "small person" attempting a high jump.

Just doesn't work.

I never played the original, but always wanted to.

Looks like this one has gone the first person route, though...sigh. Though, it does look pretty fun.

I am sorry. Out of all the previews right now, I can't help but wonder wtf developers are doing. I mean a bullet is a bullet. It was made to kill things.

Loved the first two games TEN years ago. I think the trailers look good, but I'll wait for the reviews from fellow games. Not bribed gaming websites.

It's pretty clear what they're doing .It's called building hype for the game.

As for the bullet thing, what are you talking about? If that were the case then there'd be only be one type of gun. The whole idea of the game is you live in a Wasteland with lots of spare parts left around to build things with.

Speaking of bullets. Does anyone know if they will be using "universal ammo" or will they actually pull off, at least, a Bioshock with weapon-specific or even multiple types of ammo?
