Name me one thing that has happend in the Bible that, through scientific research, has happened as it is described in the text.
There is no question about Jesus being a real person. There are other historical events which we know happened, IE: Cyrus invaded Babylon and set thousands of Jews free.
The siege of Jerusalem by Sennacherib and his subsequent murder by his own son have been confirmed through archaeology, as have many other events recorded in the bible involving Assyrian, Babylonian, and Persian leaders. The Hittite civilization was described in the bible long before the modern discovery of their existence. Jericho was a real city where the walls were found to have fallen outward. Archaeology continues to confirm the existence of ancient cities, places, and leaders that were named in the bible.
The timing and scale of biblical events is what is generally contested rather than that they actually happened(obviously excluding specific acts of God, such as creation). The conquest of Jericho by the Jews could have happened 100 years after the walls fell, when it was only a small village. The great flood could have just covered part of the Middle East. Still, the bible shouldn't be ignored historically. Many of the respected ancient historians spoke at times of divine intervention and included exaggerated statistics, yet they are still respected for their general accuracy while the bible is often dismissed as entirely fiction. I think the bible is a great tool as a source of wisdom and as a rich historical record that should not be overlooked simply because it is used as a religious text.
