There is no question about Jesus being a real person. There are other historical events which we know happened, IE: Cyrus invaded Babylon and set thousands of Jews free.

Still, the bible shouldn't be ignored historically. Many of the respected ancient historians spoke at times of divine intervention and included exaggerated statistics, yet they are still respected for their general accuracy while the bible is often dismissed as entirely fiction. I think the bible is a great tool as a source of wisdom and as a rich historical record that should not be overlooked simply because it is used as a religious text.

Wow, so I can create a book, toss in some factual information (30%) and use 70% BS for the rest of it, and then say "Hey look, that 30% proves the whole thing!!"

There is some historical significance to the Bible, since it does tell of some factual events. However, the spin put on those events are worse than O'Reilly on a good day. For example Soddam and Gamorra, fire and brimstone? More likely methane pockets released during a geological event (dead sea is active), one spark and poof.

Even now, people try to attribute simple geological events to God, when they are just the Earth acting up. However, we still gotta kill the sinners and non-believers!
