The beach was a gigantic war zone here. Several fights, at least where both parties had guns...a few dune fires, drunks galore, a few medical calls, and (so far) 3 nights of explosions. Still going on a bit tonight, but only sporadic.
we are for sure selling the beach lot ASAP, BTW. Details to follow.

Cats and dogs generally hate fireworks. They scare the poor little fellas.

Called a repairman for my garage door not working.. $850 to put in a new one since old one isn't worth repairing.

Think I'll just buy a new one myself and DIY install it!

Although the repair guy wanted to put in a Chamberlain, I think I'll go with Genie again since mine worked flawlessly for 30 years and already have the old tracks installed.. (only replace what is really old like the motor/ wires and swiches)

No I travel all over the 4 NW states and California, but I am not the holdup. I do block the view ahead and more of a PITA to pass. My goal is to make that impractical.
I was driving through the mountains in northern Colorado and they have signs saying that if there are more than three vehicles behind you, you need to pull over to let them pass. This was on Labor Day. It was... frustrating. I don't get it, my WRX can zip around those curves, why can't the 2WD pickup towing 4,000 pounds over its max capacity?

Getting buyer's remorse over my new truck. Brought it to the mechanic for safety after putting $2,500 of body work into it and I need to spend another $4,000 to pass the safety due to mechanical work that needs to be done.

I probably could have put a few grand in my current truck to try to stretch it longer instead. I'm up to around $11,000 now. I guess live and learn. Was my first time buying through a private sale and it will be my last time. When you buy through the dealer at least it's already certified and can be put in your name and it's a done deal once you drive it off the lot. No surprises.

How was the previous owner running a non-certified truck on the road before selling to you?
The certification process is only for when changing ownership. My current truck would probably need like 15k of work to be certified lol. When I'm ready to sell it I will just sell it "as is" for parts as it would just not be economical to get it certified.

Feeling lucky that I can't drive (mainly due to inability to stay undistracted).

The issue is all the salt they put on the road, it completely destroys vehicles. That, and they're just not built like they used to be. Thinner metal etc. For the price they ask for new vehicles now days everything should be stainless steel imo. You used to be able to buy a pickup for like 20 grand now they're like 60 grand new.

What kind of mechanical work requires $4,000 just to pass a safety inspection?

Err you are supposed to safety test it before you buy it.

Kinda hard to do, can't really drive it until you own it and have insurance on it. And the owner is not going to want their vehicle tied up in the shop while they could have potential buyers come look at it. What I should have done is just buy one that is already already up to standard. Usually when you buy from a dealer that's how it is. Tried to save money as this one was only 5k but ended up being burned, it will be 11k when all is said and done. Then again there was really nothing for that price range here anyway, it's either paying 5k for a fixerupper or paying 20k for a slightly newer but possibly still fixer upper. Was finding lot of stuff out of town where you can have it delivered but not sure I like the idea of buying sight unseen.

A lot, apparently. He gave me a full list. Brakes, both manifolds leaking, gas tank strap loose, I forget everything else but those were the major ones. It was just verbally, I'll get it on paper once the work is done. Some of it is work I'd want done anyhow even if it was not for safety. The engine manifold I don't really care about though, my current truck has same issue. That's the one that's the most labour intensive.

Generally you get what you pay for. There's deals out there, but they're seldom there if you need a vehicle *now*. When it's done, it'll be an $11k truck, same as if you bought it from a (low end)dealer.

Storm came through, and it seems to have knocked out my Tmobile connection. I have my phone connected to my Visible wifi hotspot. Computer glitched out with the power, and I don't want to restart it til the storms are over(for now). It's been a super wet stormy summer. We've had a bunch of attributes that would indicate a hurricane, just not all at once. All the water in the world, or a shitton of wind.

I'm sure it's fine though. It isn't an indication anything's wrong, even though it wasn't like this for my first 50 years :^/

I looked at many hundreds of canvas wall prints for my office but never found the perfect one in the size and style I want, so I had to create a poll on some crazy OT forum to see if I can get any feedback on the four pretty good ones I found. As well as text all four to friends. First world problem.

All these first world problems started around COVID..

I ended up making a desk for me and my wife rather than pay for flimsy ones. The only thing I would have done different.. put more effort into the drawers, but instead I went with open shelves on both sides of my desk which works great.. but its just a magnet for dust!

FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!! :(

We've been many power bumps here lately, so glad I have my server stuff on -48v inverter now so my own stuff is not affected at all but my work on the other hand loses the whole network each time. Their big UPS in the office is failed, and the inverter at the CO is failed too, so we lose stuff at both ends. Corporate network switches, routers, firewall, servers etc. Hopefully they get that sorted soon.
