I honestly did not think that there was anything wrong in the photo you posted. Seems like an unnecessary expense.

I didn't either, but they're super strict with safetys now and you need that to put the truck in your name so it wasn't good enough to pass. Government overreach is what it is. They're trying to get rid of old trucks like this since they want people to keep buying new. I have a feeling it will get worse as the EV mandate looms. They're essentially making it so driving is going to be only for the well off, as most people won't be able to afford it.

I'm starting to think the 7k (what I spent so far including the purchase of the truck itself) would have maybe been better off putting into my existing truck. Problem is some of the issues like the frame and box is stuff mechanics don't want to touch. But I could have maybe found a backyard mechanic that can do it.

Sugar 3 : Borax 1 mix. Ants will carry it home and the borax will kill the colony.
That works with sugar ants, but not grease ants. They also seem to learn. One of the pre made baits I bought they seemed to like, until they didn't. They just quit carrying it off.

Spent the last week at the lake pretty much unplugged. Didn't check one work email, answered one phone call and that was it. Now I'm back at work...

I'm Having problems with ants too, usually the white RAID traps work but these ants don't seem to be going for them. Usually we have bigger black ants get in the house sometime in spring or early summer but this time it's these tiny little black ants, I'm going to have to try different traps because cleaning the counters multiple times hasn't done anything to make them go away.

I've read that orange or grapefruit skin peels have oils that repel insects. Could try putting those peels there or spraying a bit of citrus oil.

I hate peeling grapefruit for this reason. Too much oil in its skin.

Sold a trading card on EBay. Buyer sent me this pic of how it arrived...

Time to start using painter's tape to keep that from happening again!

The fume hoods at my school lab are really short and it hurts my back. If I use the stools, everything important happens at a height where the door blocks my vision of it. What is this, a laboratory for ants?

Well if you won't change your entire life to save a small amount of pollution and plastic, don't get mad when we dump a few million gallons of PCBs into the river!

Ewaste is such a huge issue not often talked about. Just PCBs alone are a bad one. They are not really recyclable and so many electronics now days are designed to be throw away within years. Zero thought is put into making things last or making it possible to give things a second life or reuse it. It's not even that they fail, it's that the software becomes useless due to lack of updates/compatibility. Anything "smart" or phone related is bad as it relies on very closed black box ecosystems and after ~5 years it's obsolete by design.

In general I've been pretty good about getting tons of life out of my electronics though, I avoid buying anything that I know will have a limited life span other than phones and even those I stretch it out very long past the support period. 5 years minimum between upgrades. I have 2 of my last phones, one I still use if I want to fly my drone as it has the app on it, the other is so old that is basically useless though. Unlike computers it's not like you can throw Linux on it and run it as a server or something.

It's crazy how much space styrofoam takes up in landfills. It's very satisfying to put it in some acetone and watch it shrink back down to just polystyrene. It's still plastic waste, but it's more compact.

I posted a few weeks ago in this thread about getting a new ISP with a new wifi 6 router. My home (built last year) was pre-wired for a WAP in the ceiling in the living room so I figured I would take advantage of it. I started looking for some ceiling mounted POE WAP's so I didn't have to worry about running power. I also wanted something with mesh capability so we didn't have worry about switching networks when going from room to room.

Ended up with a TP-Link WAP/Router...Here is a speed test from my phone while sitting on the couch...I think I was getting around 550 mbps on the couch before the WAP...

I had an eye appointment today with dilation. I stepped out of the doctor's office into the Tucson sun. It was like seeing the face of god.

I spend almost no time on youtube, but I was listening to covers of Wicked Game. One of the titles was this...

She Asks if I Know Chris Issac and Her Voice Stuns The Crowd - Wicked Game

Click baity bullshit. It was alright, but the crowd wasn't stunned. There wasn't much of a crowd anyway. There's a bunch of titles like that. Why does everything have to be awful?

my first world problem was that I saw the password i used on this website over 15 years ago got caught in a dark web database and came in to change it -- first post here in 12-ish years. Hope all the people I hung out with in the mid-2000s here are doing well.

Never came across that before. After listening to a few covers, I think it's a really hard one. None was better than the original.

She tried but the echo and her trying to be dramatic didn't help I think:

I listened to hers also. I didn't hear any bad ones, but the problem is Issac's version is just about perfect, and you *will* lose something if you stray too far. The reverby guitar is essential, and it needs to be close to note for note. There's little room for playing. The vocals can be played with more, and I'd love to hear a female version that carried the same feel as Issac.

They removed the clock on our local clock "tower" because it was broken and they couldn't find parts.

I need to start handing out pamphlets now. SAVE the clock tower!

Those are chintzy looking logos. I don't think they tried hard enough to save the clocks. It's not exactly exotic tech, and people still hang big clocks, so solutions are out there.

Yeah I find it odd that they could not find a solution. I get that clocks that size are probably very niche so it's hard to get parts but surely there are local engineers and fabricators who could come up with something.
