What an open marriage taught one man about feminism

I read most of the article, what a load of tripe. I thought it was an onion-esque sarcastic piece and was waiting for the punchline, but apparently the guy really is that stupid. Yeesh what an idiot.

See bolded for correction.

As I write this, my children are asleep in their room, Loretta Lynn is on the stereo, and my wife is out on a date with a man named Paulo. It’s her second date this week; her fourth this month so far. If it goes like the others, she’ll come home in the middle of the night, crawl into bed beside me, and tell me all about how she and Paulo had sex. I won’t explode with anger or seethe with resentment. I’ll tell her it’s a hot story and I’m glad she had fun. It’s hot because she’s excited, and I’m glad because I’m a dude with a cuckoldry fetish.

It's possible that it actually works for them. It's possible he's deluded and she's just using him to watch the kids while she has fun. It's none of my business, and perhaps the worst thing about the piece is there's no reason for him to make it my business other than that, hey, there's his name in NY Magazine. BFD.

Hooray for open relationships!

So... how many women has he been with?

<reads article>

Oh, he's got a cuckhold fetish.

He doesn't seem to derive much pleasure at being told about her exploits, so more likely he just feels humiliation at being unemployed/stay-at-home dad and has an associated desire to be degraded. Allowing his wife to do this, and subsequently writing a news article about it accomplishes that degrading twice. Sucks for his kids that he's doing it in such a public fashion and they'll be forever linked to it when they're completely innocent bystanders.

Whenever I tell someone I stay home with the kids, they invariably say, “Hardest work in the world.” They say this because the only way to account for a man at home with the kids is to say what he’s doing is hard work. But there’s a subtext in the compliment that makes it backhanded: We both know no one ever says it to a woman.
That's also a bunch of crap, I'm willing to bet. I'm pretty sure I've said it myself once or twice, and even if I'm remembering incorrectly, I'd certainly say it to a woman if I'm in a situation where it comes up in conversation. There's gotta be others like me in this, too.

Cum dumpster. Do you have similar pejoratives for men who like to fuck a lot?
Hit a little too close to home? How did you and your dad handle your mom whoring around town?

Not funny, just an all too personal attack.

This guy is a deluded pussy. Holy fuck, can you imagine trying to survive with this guy in the wild?

"No, I swear, the alligator just wants a hug!"

So the pejoratives stem from jealousy?

Jealousy? Maybe.

But comparing the effort required to get laid as your "average" (read: below average per most women) male to getting laid as your average woman is comical at best.

The male won't be getting laid.

But most slut shaming is done by women against other women.

YES

lol @ his argument that a married man not wanting his wife to sleep with other men is limiting her sexuality.

Tonight I'll explain to my wife over a bottle of wine how her strict view of our marriage in a monogamous context is limiting my sexual expression and I need to sleep with other women to find myself. LMAO

The author of this piece is a cuckold pussy who thinks, or has convinced himself, that being a feminist means letting his wife walk all over him. Pathetic.

The day my wife asks for an open relationship is the day I file for divorce and she would do the same of me. We committed ourselves to each other and when we stop being satisfied and fulfilled with each other then we need to either fix our marriage or move on, not turn one of us into a welcome mat so the other can walk all over them.

The dude in the article is an idiot, but marriage by its very traditional virtues *is* "limiting sexuality", you just found someone who's okay with it like you are, nothing wrong with that.

This woman just found a guy who let her have her cake and eat it too. I'm no feminist, but good for her. As long as she doesn't cry foul when other capable men take the same approach, all is well.
