you need a receipt.... how daft can you be? you need proof you bought it from that store so they can take it back.

and with video games, at least for Tesco (kinda similar to walmart) they will only exchange the game, no credit no refund

I don't know when they changed their policy, but their policy used to be that if they carried it, they would let you exchange it/return it, with a receipt, without a receipt... whatever.

I can see some issues with video games, but sealed games IS absurd, especially when they are willing to take 1 back, but not all 3.

so my friend and i went to go return 3 of the PS3 games he bought from walmart. They got horrible reviews so he never opened them just want to get store credit so he can purchase diff games as they come out. We waited 20 minutes for the assistant manager to show up to approve it and he denied us. He said seeing as we do not have a receipt even if they are sealed and we want store credit he wasn't going to do it. He said "these are high ticket items and i will allow you to return 1 for store credit not all 3" since when is a $60 game a high ticket item!? At this point i asked him if it was in their policy saying they can't take back above items above a certain price point without a receipt, and asked him to show me where in their return policy does it say i can't return them without a receipt for store credit and he said "it isn't in our policy this is my call and i will only take 1 back." I asked to see the manager and he said he was the senior ranking manager on shift. I told him to write down his name, position, his managers name, and store number so i can contact corporate. He wrote all the info down handed me my games and walked away.

Has anyone had a problem like this before!? I have been shopping at walmart for years and i have NEVER seen them not take back something before. I remember back when they would give you cash even without a receipt! All my friend wanted was store credit to buy different games.
I am calling the manager tomorrow and if she doesn't let us go back i am contacting corporate.

Wait till after christmas to return them... he probably thinks you stole them from a store and are trading them in for free merchandice...
After christmas they'll take them back on the christmas exchange...

Someone said purchases over 100 are recorded by phone number. You admitted to spending 2000. Have them look up your purchase and use that as proof to return the products. I don't see why you have ignored these comments in the thread already, unless the games are stolen or some other scenario.

You must also realize that a lot of these stores that were selling the PS3 / Wii had special bundle deals, if you are trying to circumvent these deals, don't be shocked if you get shot down.

I know what the OP did, he walked into the store empty handed, took 3 games off the shelves then went straight to the customer service line to return them for store credit. BRILLIANT!

i WISH! cuz that would mean they let us walk out of the store with 3 free games lmao

better luck tomorrow?

haha yeah!

i am calling the manager tomorrow, if she doesn't let us go return the 3 games tomorrow i am going to have my mom do it then go back and sow the assistant manager i returned them, and never shop at that walmart again

LOL, that's one of the whiniest, bitchiest things I've heard in a while. I'm sorry you want the WRITTEN rules to be broken for you because you're special and you deserve it but a return policy is a customer service and NOT A RIGHT. In reality they don't have to return crap if the company doesn't want to but the company chooses to let you - all you have to do is keep track of a piece of paper. You may think that sucks and isn't fair, but neither is life.

Oh the irony of the sig!

Ill copy-paste the policy once more. Maybe this time he wont ignore it.

"Everything in the store can be exchanged or refunded with a receipt within 90 days of purchase... with the exception of a few electronic items and regulated items."

Walmart is in the business is selling things. They are already going above and beyond the call of duty accepting any returns without a receipt. The solution? Get 1 more friend and have each one return a game seperately. Or wait until after Christmas when the return policy is relaxed for gift returns.

that might be the best idea since there aren't any other games out right now he wants anyway

Did Walmart sell the PS3 in a bundle? If so, you have your answer.

i am not sure what they did in store but online their sold out bundle is over $1,400! but almost everyone sold it as a bundle. Yes he could be htinking we tried to return a part of a bundle but there is no way to prove it and he can't assume that we are just like he can't assume that we stole them or that we are tring to ripp them off, we are customers.

they can do whatever the fvck they want, including throwing you out of the store.

oh stfu. they could also not have let him in the store in the first place but they did and they let him buy 3 games, he became a customer and deserves to be treated liek one and everyone else takes make items without receipts including walmart but THAT assis. manager wanted to be a prick. If they can sell him 3 games at once they can take back 3 games at once.

The store I worked at didn't have to take back anything without a receipt...its completely up to the manager on call.

see he didn't even put it that way, he wasn't even polite, he didn't try and explain anything, he walked up with an attitude after we waited patiently for 20 mins on him, said he wouldn't take it, when i asked him why not he was sug about it and said they were "high ticket" items and he wouldn't take it, when i started asking him about their policy etc is when he said he would take 1 and only 1 game back but it was "his call and no one else's."

The reason places like walmart take back items without a receipt is to keep customers, because it is common practice at almost every store in the US (like kmart, target, etc, all their rivals), and because people do lose the receipt. You don't want to screw a customer cuz they lost the receipt. You don't walk away happy though just cuz you are a customer which is why they won't just give you cash anymore or credit your card (even costco only gives store credit or amex credit if you do not have a receipt which changed a year ago) so it wasn't like we wanted cash, we wanted the damn credit/exchange

its common practice to take stuff back without a receipt? news to me. why give out receipts in the 1st place?

That's my guess, someone brought that up the bundle earlier in the thread and he got defensive saying that the manager could'nt assume that's what he was doing, just like the manager couldn't assume that he had stolen them.

Why don't you just tell us the whole story Billy?

My guess is they are trying to return the bundle games and the manager recognizes that. If that's the case he was being nice letting you give back one. I'm also guessing that Billy's "friend" still has the receipt, but it shows them as part of the bundle so he's not using it to return them because he can't.

From what I recall, when you have a game or movie at walmart, they only let you exchange for the EXACT SAME game without a receipt, at most. It also has to be unopened.

So in this or most cases that would be pointless.

Keep receipts!

You are lucky they offered to even take ONE game back. Like everyone else said, just hit up 3 different wal-marts...

And tell your friend to keep receipts especially on items such as PS3 games. I still have my Xbox 360 receipt from back in May when I bought it at costco.

it has a lot to do with individual store inventory results too.

after working in the retail field for so long.....i never understood why people dont file their purchase receipts or at least buy on a CC.

I can see why you're peeved OP, but you have to see the Walmart employee's side too. What if you were in his shoes?

Moral of the story: keep track of your receipt.
