Walmart wouldn't accept 3 video games for store credit without receipt

so my friend and i went to go return 3 of the PS3 games he bought from walmart. They got horrible reviews so he never opened them just want to get store credit so he can purchase diff games as they come out. We waited 20 minutes for the assistant manager to show up to approve it and he denied us. He said seeing as we do not have a receipt even if they are sealed and we want store credit he wasn't going to do it. He said "these are high ticket items and i will allow you to return 1 for store credit not all 3" since when is a $60 game a high ticket item!? At this point i asked him if it was in their policy saying they can't take back above items above a certain price point without a receipt, and asked him to show me where in their return policy does it say i can't return them without a receipt for store credit and he said "it isn't in our policy this is my call and i will only take 1 back." I asked to see the manager and he said he was the senior ranking manager on shift. I told him to write down his name, position, his managers name, and store number so i can contact corporate. He wrote all the info down handed me my games and walked away.

Has anyone had a problem like this before!? I have been shopping at walmart for years and i have NEVER seen them not take back something before. I remember back when they would give you cash even without a receipt! All my friend wanted was store credit to buy different games.
I am calling the manager tomorrow and if she doesn't let us go back i am contacting corporate.

my friend went during his lunch hour today to the next closest Walmart 7 miles up the road. They took back all 3 games, no questions asked, and gave him store credit, proving the assistant manager was just being an ass and even though it doesn't state in their policy that they MUST accept a no receipt return, that their standard practice along with most stores is to do so while offering only store credit or exchange.

this is why you have reciepts. Who's to say Joe Blow doesn't come in there with a sealed game that was purchased elsewhere?

Or more likely, one that was boosted and being brought back for the cash. NOT saying that's the case here, but it could be behind their reasoning on this.

I'm surprised they don't have a system that would let them look up his reciept number.

Not much corporate can do or will do. They might even tell you the same. No receipt showing the transaction so he gets no credit.

there are lots of thigns that can happen, game can be stolen, they could be froma diff store, they could be purchased on a coupon and trying to return for full price, or they can simple be trying to get store credit to buy diff games cuz they lose their receipt. yes not every store is as laid back as Costco when it comes to returns but most stores in 2007 take back items espeically 3 items totalling $180 without a receipt. They are sealed, no foul play, nothign fishign, we walked intot he store and right to returns, all 3 games are diff not like they are the same, and he didn't ask for cash or anythign he ask for credit. Point is their policy doens't say he can't do it and he himself said he can do it but it was his call and he would only take back one and when i asked him about their policy he said it was his decision.

Walmart is in the business is selling things. They are already going above and beyond the call of duty accepting any returns without a receipt. The solution? Get 1 more friend and have each one return a game seperately. Or wait until after Christmas when the return policy is relaxed for gift returns.

At CC we keep can look up any transaction over $100. That's why you get asked for your phone number.

If you paid by credit card we can look up purchases since 00 I believe

that might be the best idea since there aren't any other games out right now he wants anyway

Did Walmart sell the PS3 in a bundle? If so, you have your answer.

i am not sure what they did in store but online their sold out bundle is over $1,400! but almost everyone sold it as a bundle. Yes he could be htinking we tried to return a part of a bundle but there is no way to prove it and he can't assume that we are just like he can't assume that we stole them or that we are tring to ripp them off, we are customers.

they can do whatever the fvck they want, including throwing you out of the store.

oh stfu. they could also not have let him in the store in the first place but they did and they let him buy 3 games, he became a customer and deserves to be treated liek one and everyone else takes make items without receipts including walmart but THAT assis. manager wanted to be a prick. If they can sell him 3 games at once they can take back 3 games at once.

How old are you idiots anyway?

Why the fvck are they obligated to take back products without proof that you even purchased it from them? You can argue that they're receiving an item worth however much they're giving you, but you're already costing them money in employee time by hitting the return line and them having to restock it.

The store I worked at didn't have to take back anything without a receipt...its completely up to the manager on call.

see he didn't even put it that way, he wasn't even polite, he didn't try and explain anything, he walked up with an attitude after we waited patiently for 20 mins on him, said he wouldn't take it, when i asked him why not he was sug about it and said they were "high ticket" items and he wouldn't take it, when i started asking him about their policy etc is when he said he would take 1 and only 1 game back but it was "his call and no one else's."

The reason places like walmart take back items without a receipt is to keep customers, because it is common practice at almost every store in the US (like kmart, target, etc, all their rivals), and because people do lose the receipt. You don't want to screw a customer cuz they lost the receipt. You don't walk away happy though just cuz you are a customer which is why they won't just give you cash anymore or credit your card (even costco only gives store credit or amex credit if you do not have a receipt which changed a year ago) so it wasn't like we wanted cash, we wanted the damn credit/exchange

I know what the OP did, he walked into the store empty handed, took 3 games off the shelves then went straight to the customer service line to return them for store credit. BRILLIANT!

Seriously thought...how old are you and your friend? Stored often won't go out of their way for young customers because they often don't spend much, aren't loyal to one store, and have a higher risk of trying to take advantage of a store. Not saying this is what you were doing but age may play a factor here.
