Target doesn't employ underage workers and they give their of age workers proper break times and vacation.

Also another difference: Target stores have a big bullseye target on the buildings... Wal mart doesnt, but should in case of nuclear attack from a foreign country they might see this and attack it first.

They arent perfect, walmart gives regular yearly raises, to the point where if you arent evaluated your boss can get written up.

My sister worked at target for 2 years and never got a raise or eval for a raise.

WalMart is pure evil. If you know how they operate then you know what I mean when I say that. If you don't, well do a little research on them. Pay attention to the way they treat their employees and especially their business practices. There is a reason they have such low prices people. My bro works in sales and has told me some stories of dealing with WalMart buyers. People trash Microsoft for being a bully but WalMart is as bad or worse.

And the OP is dead on. When I used to go to WalMart I found the store to be disorganized, messy, and somewhat dirty. Also, their shopping aisles are too small and their main aisles are filled with crap. When you can't push a cart down an aisle because there's a person (not a cart) in it that's pretty sad.

I don't care if my Axe body wash is $3.99 at Target and $3.39 at WalMart. If the option is shop at WalMart or pay more elsewhere I'll choose the latter.

Push. There's few unfriendly people here in small-town Texas 🙂

I can't believe you replied to the original post then made individual replies to each of the 8 points. I guess that's how you have 25K posts... :-/

Edit: Just read further. Either you have stock in WalMart, work there, or both. Whatever the reason, please stop teabagging them.

The newer walmarts in the suburbs can be done properly and have decent clientele and also be clean.

However, I'll always pay the extra to shop at Target. So many things wrong about the walmart experience when you step foot in a store.

If you buy from Target keep your receipt. If you get a gift from target, you'll hopefully get a gift receipt....otherwise, you're SOL when trying to return more than 3 items per year.

Example, I got 10 towels as wedding gifts that didn't match. No receipts. I could return 3 of them.

Walmart has the same return policy. It's not unreasonable for a store to expect a receipt with a return.

I shop at Walmart for all the basics (food, toiletries, etc), and Target for most other things. To avoid the Walmart craziness I usually just wait till 2-3 AM on a weekend and go, that way it's usually deserted, and I can try to convince myself that the vacant stare in the cashiers eyes is from lack of sleep, not a lack of will to live.

5) Target has nice bright lighting that makes me happy. The 'lighting' at walmart makes me feel like i'm in some siberian prison.

What the hell reverse universe do I live in? The "lighting", which is a very generous name for the slightly not-dark, brown glow of Target, seems to have escaped every Target that I've ever been in. I've been in Target over a large swath of the country, and I can tell you that it's a very sickly looking place.

I avoid it if I can.

In Minnesota, nearly every town that has a Wal-Mart has a Target, usually right next to eachother.

It's amazing to watch the entrances for a bit to each one and see what type of people go to each 🙂

That sounds about right except the part about the lighting. Walmart tends to be brighter while Target has more relaxed lightings.

You know, I'm not an elitist or anything but when you actually remove your PC filter, you'd realize what a sh!tty experience shopping at Walmart is as compared to just about any other store. To those defending Walmart, consider yourself an exception, not the rule. Yes, it does vary a bit depending on individual stores and demographic. As a whole, though, Target shopping is vastly more enjoyable than Walmart. You can put your blinders on and stick your head in the sand, but that's not going to change the reality of the majority of people. There's a reason that Walmart have developed that reputation and have it stick.

Walmart feels like a zoo most of the time. The low prices attract everybody and their grandmother. Let's not forget the behemoth mothers with their 5 screaming kids. One time some idiot took his cart pretty fast around a corner and hit the back of one of my heel. Pretty pleasant experience, let me tell you. :disgust:

Heh, as I read this sentence, the people in the apartment below me just "hollared". Got to love Mississippi...

Over the summer, when i was crapping bricks because I didn't have a job worth crap, I went to wal-mart to turn in a resume for their oil-change department.

But then I saw the trailer-trash (This is in a relatively well-off part of SE Ontario) that shop there, people arguing over PENNIES, smacking their kids, fighting with the cashiers...

I just ripped up the resume and walked away. I just literally couldn't do it, especially not for minimum wage. A week later, I got a job doing tech support for more than double my previous wage 🙂

Charitable too!

Linky!

you are right. Wal-mart is pretty damn high.

Kinda missed the point 😛

i did?

In terms of the sheer size of cash donations, Wal-Mart Stores (nyse: WMT - news - people ), the nation's largest retailer, would be at the top of the list. The Arkansas company gave some $197 million last year in cash ($188 million of it in the U.S. alone). That puts Wal-Mart ahead of Bank of America (nyse: BAC - news - people ), Johnson & Johnson and Altria Group

oh wait this was a wal-mart bashing thread i'm sorry.

And I don't mind seeing what you people call "trailer trash" or "ghetto folks." Get over yourselves, you aren't so high and mighty.

I wouldn't consider bathing and washing one's hair to be "high and mighty". Yet when I go to WalMart, the people there are so disgusting that I feel like puking. I'm not lying, the people there are just putrid. It's common to see some 350 lb woman on welfare that doesn't wear a bra, doesn't bathe and doesn't wash her hair. Her hair looks like a rat's nest, and probably is.

I do not want to have to see that. Is it too much to ask that people take care of themselves?

I went to target over the weekend, and it was like i was visiting heaven. Why don't they have a target closer to my home? 🙁

Anyway, target vs. walmart:

1) Target doesn't smell like an old people and broccoli. Walmart does.

2) Target is actually clean and organized. Walmart looks like a hurricane hit it.

3) Target has nice merchandise. Walmart's merchandise looks like crap.

4) The shoppers at target look like normal people. The shoppers at walmart look like they came out of a trailer park.

5) Target has nice bright lighting that makes me happy. The 'lighting' at walmart makes me feel like i'm in some siberian prison.

6) The aisles at Target are wide open, lots of space to walk around. The ailes at walmart are cramped.

7) Target has reasonable traffic. Walmart has just too many damn shoppers running over each other.

8) The salespeople at target are nice, friendly, and actually look happy to be working there. The salespeople at walmart look like they want a revolver to shoot themselves... and they're the most unfriendly people i've ever met.

Any other differences you've noticed between walmart and target?

No matter what anyones says...Wally World is better.

where do you live? i really need to come see this walmart. just to see what everyone complaines about.

In 2003 the first assignment of the U.S. forces in Iraq was to close down all the Walmart stores.

They were replaced with Targets.

Our Target smells like popcorn and piss and looks like a tornado went through it. Our WalMart has a nice clean subway and is the sh!t.

I work at Target. Every Target I ahve ever been in looks so clean and neat compared to every Walmart I have been.

Walmart looks like a flea market. Dirty floors, product all over the shelves, pallets of product just sitting on the floor. Basically, a disaster area.

Higher prices? Produce, sure. The produce part of Super Target is aimed at a different market than Walmart's. Everything else - the prices are on par in terms of the same goods as is Walmart. If you're going to argue over $.30 in price, get a life.

what price difference is worth arguing about?
