I don't believe that the DVI vs. Analog connections make any difference as far as pixel speed is concerned.

Right, it doesn't change the pixel speed since that's the physics of the LCD. But it does change how fast the control signal being fed to switch on and off each pixel is. ;)

Okay, since everyone reading this thread is probably in the market for a 19" LCD around the $850 price that will most likely be good for gaming, I'm going to let you in on a possible hot deal that people thought the price went up on this morning.

I was thinking about getting one myself, but the more I think about it I shouldn't be spending this money.

According to one of the other threads, the Sceptre X9G is supposed to have the same flat panel inside as the Viewsonic VG191. The specs on the LCD look identical according to:

Viewsonic VG191

Sceptre X9G

This morning the Sceptre X9G was at $850. But Justdeals upped it to $889.95.

However, they forgot to up the price on the Sceptre X9G_JD which looks to be the same as the X9G, but with a pair of integrated 2 watt speakers ;)
It's currently $829.95 + 11.90 = $841.85 shipped UPS Ground. Add tax ONLY if you live in CA.

NOTE: Viewsonic has a better name and a three year warranty. Sceptre seems to have a name for being low cost and only a one year warranty.

I can't seem to find any reviews for the Sceptre. Anyone know of one?

Does this qualify as my first hot deal?

<< just out of curiosity, where do you guys see a credit hold?? >>

If you check your order status on-line it says it on there in BIG red letters. :( I think I'm going with the Planar deal from Dell with a BVG from AMEX. I'll still hold off calling Compaq, not going to let them off the hook that easily. :)

My order's been in their system since 4/14 and not a single phone call or email! What gives? If they're gonna reneg just tell us so we dont have to wonder. Otherwise tell us whats going on. And they wonder why they are getting such an unsatisfactory rating...

I got called from Compaq. Told me order cancelled. They sent a bunch of excuses including invalid source of coupon use. I argued for a while but they were still gonna cancel the order. And the b*tch I talked to was pretty rude. So guys, you'd better be prepared in case they call.

check out best buy's ratings -- real low thanks to the geforce4 fiasco
ratings numbers can be overrated or underrated...i would try to read some of the user opinions to get a better guage of their experiences

Well as much as it might P!ss some people off they have every right to deny the coupon if it was in fact done via a mailout and you can't prove you've ever been a customer.

so they cancelling orders saying that invalid use of coupon codes. Okay i would still like to order the vg191 at 999 before coupon. Are they not allowing that to go through ?

I cant see how they wouldn't allow you to purchase it at the $999 price since that was the price they were selling it at to anyone. I think it's just the 20% off coupon they are opposed to.

it's weird how some of you have order stats with credit hold while others do not. Mine was ordered on the 14th in the aearly afternoon and my order status was not able to be
retireive by the system. Goes to show how good of a order system compaq has.

Well, deal may still be on. I ordered another monitor through Dell and they said there was a problem processing my CC, so I figured that maybe Compaq put a hold on my account, so I checked and sure enough they have taken the CREDIT HOLD off my account and have processed my order. I talked to a Compaq person and she told me that it was on back order, but I would get it for the $800 (plus shipping and tax). Well, now I'm in the process of trying to talk to a person at Dell to cancel my order. I could keep the Dell order and pay a little more and have the monitor next week, but $800 for the ViewSonic is too good not to wait for. :) Anyway, has anyone else heard from Compaq or have the CREDIT HGOLD removed from their order? Just giving everyone a heads up. :D

I had ordered the night of 4/12 (before this thread was posted). My order status had never showed up on the page. It always said to contact Compaq via the 800 number. I called the number on 4/15 and was transferred to Compaq SMB billing. They said there was a problem that the shipping address was different than my credit card billing address. I corrected the problem, and they called the phone number on my billing address to verify the shipping address. They said it would ship out that day (4/15). Called back on 4/16 to get tracking info, they said there was a hold on everybodys' order who ordered this monitor and that I would be receiving a call soon. I have been waiting ever since. Today, I got an e-mail confirmation of my order (finally). I looked on the order status on the website, and it showed up correctly. However, my order date shows 4/19. Weird, huh? By the "credit status" field, it says "credit approved" (no mention of CREDIT HOLD). However, there are all zero's on my credit approval date. Also, when I go to line item detail, the monitor is backordered. My estimated shipping date is 4/30.

Anybody know what this means:
On the line item detail page, one of the fields on the monitor is "Stk Cd". Mine shows a red 'C' for this field. Does anybody know what this means or have the same experience?

Hope everybody gets the monitor they so rightly deserve.

:)

well after reading about you guys i called the billing to find out what is going on. The lady said nothing to do with my card or anything and that there would be someone calling in the next few days . She said it has to do with a pricing dispute with the warehouse and not with the consumers.

well i guess some of you guys are lucky to get the orther while the others are goign to get shafted. The rep told me there is a total of 250 or so orders for this specific monitor.

well guess compaq can't takte the 400 - 500 price hit per LCD. Figure they wouldn't care with the new merger.

Well my order fell in the black hole of "invalid coupon use" so I decided to go ahead and get the equivalent Planar 19" from Dell with the 10% off and $50 off $400 coupons which were stackable. What also made it appealing was the free overnight shipping and no tax from Dell (while the viewsonic was taxed by Compaq). I only ended up paying $80 more than I would have for the Viewsonic which is ok. The Planar 19" is very sweet. I compared it to the NEC 18'1" that you can get from Compaq with the 20% code and the Planar blows it away. Text is much more sharp and clear on the Planar (the NEC is only analog). I think those of you who get the Viewsonic will be happy. I am very happy woith this Planar. Got rid of my enormous 21" CRT and now I have desk space again.

No Compaq didn't call me, I saw the writing on the wall. I called them and the CSR said there was a note on my order that an invalid code was used and someone would call me and tell me what my options are. They aren't going to sell me the Viewsonic with the $200 off code, but hey if they do I'll put it on Ebay and make a couple hundred dollars.
