<< Huh? You called today to place they order and they adjusted the price to $999-20%? Why would they adjust the price for an order placed after the price was raised? >>

I printed out a quote number when the price was still good. Yesterday, I realized the price shot up, so I immediately picked up the phone and talked to a CSR to place an order. After 4 hours of waiting, the CSR called back and said his manager will go ahead and honor the price.

LOL. You ordered after all of us and your order may be one that slips through the cracks.

Congrats if you do. Welcome to the club if you don't.

Mine went from backordered to ship date of 5/10 to ship date of 4/23. Still no tracking though. I will not call them unless nothing happens for another week. I've just been checking order status online. I ordered on 4/14.

My status is still credit hold, but expected delivery date changed to 4/23 though.

Relayer, does it say CREDIT HOLD in red anywhere on your order status?

Mine says:

We are unable to retrieve the status of your order at this time. Please check back later or contact a representative at 1-800-888-0554 to get the status of your order.

So, in theory I already have mine, if it wasn't for that damn red CREDIT HOLD on my account. I called in today to ask for tracking information and after being transfered from department to receptionist to being hung up on they told me that someone would be calling me tomorrow about my order. The funny thing is that I already received 2 phone calls about my order and each of those people told me it would ship out that day. I think Compaq needs to pull something out of somewhere and just cancel the orders if they don't want to honor them and I will find a deal somewhere else. I'm mostly getting tired of the run around and each person I talk to tells me something different. Oh well, I just hope it works and if not then I'll just keep looking. 🙁

Fant, that code doesn't work, but you might get in trouble for posting it anyway since that's against the rules and stuff. Has anyone heard from Compaq about the staus of the orders? Right now I have my cart saved with a different monitor in it or I might go with the Office Dept deal anyway, I just hope they (Compaq) let me know one way or another about this deal.

according to techbarain compaqs holding the orders and only letting those that can proof they got the coupon from compaq get the deal.

O well, it was worth a try.

Office Depots 20% coupon is pulled also.

Looks like we have to wait for Dell to answer.

EDIT: Sorry, one more question and I'll let this post drop. Is it possible to pricematch using AMEX? I have a quote printout and a confirmation Email.

If I have to just fax it to them, Do you think it's possible? Or will AMEX check compaqs website to see if the price is still good?

LOL!

Techbargains reads Anandtech and posts info from the forums on their site.

The only reason they posted that is because of us.

😉

LOL, yeah we all knew that already. In fact there are a lot of members here who have their own deal sites.

Well, I just got off the phone with one of the customer service people and she explained that they will be offering the monitors for $999, but no rebate unless you are a repeat customer. 🙁 I guess for $1K it's still a pretty good deal, but when you add in shipping and tax it will come out to around $1100ish. Now, I've been looking around and I see that Planar and KDS have monitors for about the same price, so my question is take Compaq up on the deal or get it from somewhere else? I think we won't actually hear from Compaq for a few days or even as long as a week because they have to go through each order and figure out if the person is a repeat customer and then after they figure it all out call each person and talk to them too. Anyone have an opinion about the other choices or just stick with this deal? This might turn into a poll more than a hot deal by the end of all of this. 🙂

I looked at the KDS RAD-9 today at Microcenter and was VERY impressed with this panel for it's $999 price. The biggest problem for me is that the specification for pixel response is only 35 ms which is likely too slow for FPS gaming. Microcenter has a 15% re-stocking fee for any returned merchandise so I opted not to get it... otherwise I would have happily takin it home and hooked it up to my GF4 to see how RTCW and CSTRIKE looked.

🙁

So, these won't be good for FPS games? I figured if using the DVI it would look good. 🙁 Great something more to concider, I'm using a 19" Mitsubishi 900u and it's been great, but I've been drooling over the LCD's for a while now. Decisions, decisions at this rate I'll never figure it all out. Now I have to not only decide if I want the Compaq deal or to go with one of the others available, but also if I want to risk not liking the way it plays games too.

I'll just sit here and read the posts as they come. 🙂

The really sad thing is that in 18 months there will likely be a horde of high quality gaming displays in the 17"-18" size range for under $750.

Those of us who aren't willing to wait for the next technology improvements are the ones suffering with these decisions.

the sad thing with compaq is they could of easily avoided this if their system was set up to not allow ecodes that work for first time users.
They're blaming us for their simple mistakes ?

Has anyone been contacted by compaq yet?

So in order for you to qualify for the 20% coupon, you have to be a previous customer??

What if I buy a flash memory for 30 bux before they call my house? hehe

You could use that code on something else after you buy something small, but the problem is that they have raised the price of the VG191 to $1350, so you still won't get it for less than the $999 they are going to offer you. They messed up and now I hope they try and make it right, but who know (not even they know). 🙂

I was actually saying when they contact you to verify that you are a repeat customer, just simply point out that cheapo $15 purchase you made on a memory card.

You dont necessarily have to purchase the monitor twice.

The problem is I'm not sure how compaq will contact you, whether by a cancellation email, phone call etc.

If they send a cancellation email I guess the deals dead. If they call you I guess you can argue with them.

So has anyone been contacted yet???

The specs on the VG191 say 500:1 contrast ratio (very good), 250 cd/m^2 brightness, and 15ms rise, 10ms fall.

By comparison, my SGI 1600SW is 350:1, 235 cd/m^2, and 15ms rise, 10ms fall.

What does this mean you ask? Well the SGI 1600SW is a sweet nearly zero ghosting flat panel. Now this Viewsonic has better contrast ratio, better brightness and the same rise and fall. It's the rise and fall that really matter for ghosting. You want the rise and fall to be as low as possible.

In short, the Viewsonic would make a pretty good FPS flat panel. Just make sure you use the DVI input to get the clearest, fastest picture.

In 18 months, everything changes. We'll always be drooling over the next generation. Face the fact that since computers are our hobbies, we're going to be continually pouring money into them.

Lucky for me, I get to write it off as a business expense.
