Elon is doing it for himself and humanity. Who's going to build Starship if not for him? How many hundreds more years would we might have waited? And who's to say we would still have the technology to do it? People take current knowledge and amazing technology for granted. Our know-how and technology can disappear if the world suffers couple big misfortunes and world changing events. It's not unreasonable to think access to knowledge and talent can die off without it being passed off to new generation. Just look at the decline in US space program after our moon program. We have to keep pushing forward, testing and expanding our knowledge.
I agree on most of it, though I just dont see Elon as a humanitarian. Nope, dude has zero fucks… Its like that Von Braun dude, Nazi not Nazi, I dont care, I build rockets.

Elon is right about it starts out as billionaire tax and then eventually moves down to millionaires and below. I think they might even come after your 401k and IRA. You don't need to worry because you don't pay taxes or have any money they can steal.
Why don't you move to a country with no/low taxes. I've heard Haiti is nice.

So sick of hearing people that got rich based on the benefits of taxation whine about taxes.

US Income Tax was originally for the rich. But now it's universal although half the population still doesn't pay anything. In Argentina, government went after people's retirement accounts. It can happen if you don't push back until it's too late.
Lol, "It's universal!!" "If you ignore the half that are too poor to pay it."

And you still do not know who I have voted for except the few I told you about. Guesses and assumptions.
Lol, okay dude. The most recent guy you voted for put an FCC in place that dramatically hurt rural broadband expansion, yet you voted for him again. Then you whine about Democrats saying "give them what they voted for."

So if your in a rural community you should be done away with as you are useless to the cities?

Dude listen to yourself.

Conservative rural folks talk endless shit about city folks and "elitists", I'm sorry it hurts your fee fees when liberals do the same. Stop being a snowflake and grow thicker skin. At least us liberals that talk shit vote for politicians and policies that will help everyone, including those rural folks.

For real, you voted for Trump twice and you're clutching your pearls over this?

That’s exactly the point, all this infrastructure that is instrumental in gaining wealth… costs money to build and maintain. Its that simple. To get in the money and not pay back is like… well i’d almost call it stealing ;)

Don't forget all the government educated employees the use and decades of scientific research conducted by the government.

Billionaires benefit from the fruits of taxation more than anyone and then scream like hell when asked to chip in.

If you ignore his $100M house in California. He isn't as flashy as some of them, but he ain't leaving off his minimum wage salary either.

Edit: I guess he did sell them, but he did have them before.

Musk is a great entrepreneur, but he is definitely a giant douchebag. I remember when asked about Texas's draconian abortion law he demurred saying he didn't like to talk politics.

Of course when he felt snubbed when the Biden administration did a press conference about reducing ICE vehicles, he did tweet about that. Even though it made no sense to have a EV brand at a conference about reducing ICE production.

And now about the ultra ultra rich tax. He's not worried about talking about politics, he just doesn't give a shit about women's bodily rights and kissing ass to his states government.

Of course he didn't refuse government subsidies and incentives that helped Tesla a ton, but now he doesn't want to pay shit, and instead plays fear mongering tactics of the worst politicians that if they come for a fraction of his insane about of his wealth, they are coming after all of regular Joe's stuff too.

Just a giant hypocritical asshole POS.

I might move to no income tax state in the future but until then, I will keep paying more than my fair share of taxes to the state of Georgia. I'm staying in GA until my daughter finishes college. Federal taxes I can't escape. I love USA so I don't see myself ever giving up US citizenship. I will keep paying my share until I die.

Lol, "It's universal!!" "If you ignore the half that are too poor to pay it."
They're not too poor to pay it. We just choose to not make them pay. Maybe we should. You guys are always bitching about cities subsidizing rural areas and how we should cut them off because they don't deserve any tax help from cities. Well, the upper 50% who pay income taxes subsidize the lower 50% who don't pay income taxes. Perhaps we should also cut off the lower 50% since they don't contribute to the IRS and leech off others who pay. They're net drain and waste of resources if we go by twisted logic of people in this thread. Isn't that the position of people like @MrSquished and others? Rural poor people don't deserve internet?

Elon is not anti-labor. He's anti-union. He employs over 100k people.

To be clear, I've been defending rural broadband in this thread.

The vast majority of people that pay no income tax is because they don't make enough money or get it all back in credits. It's not because they choose not to.

Elon is not anti-labor. He's anti-union. He employs over 100k people.

The robber barons from the turn of the last century employed hundreds of thousands, that in an of itself means nothing. It's how you treat your employees and trying to keep their wages below the industry average is not exactly being pro labor. My dad's cousin had a restaurant in Virginia, he employed mostly blacks in his kitchen, the second he was out of earshot to them, it was N***er this and N****er that. Lots of folks would say he can't be racist or be anti labor, he hires blacks! No he was racist and paid them way less than they were worth. It's a pointless argument.

Nobody wants to impoverish Elon Musk, he should be very wealthy and have money to do with as he pleases, including starting more businesses. But he has benefited greatly from government infrastructure and subsidies specific to his industry, and employees that came through systems the government put in place from education to infrastructure.

And he will benefit a lot from the new bill that will incentivize cleaner energy and electric car travel and I think solar power. But he doesn't want to pay far less of a percentage of their money to taxes than regular people. My income from 40-80k is taxed at 22%, that's more than the long-term capital gains tax, so this is why it's easy to say billionaires pay an effective tax rate less than that middle class folks. So he goes from being worth 210 billion to 200 billion, back into the system that created the environment for him to thrive in. The fact you defend this is sickening to many people.

THe mars shit is delusional nonsense. We have a beautiful planet that supports human life right here and if we spent that effort to fix this planet - invest in cleaner energy, agricultural technology, healthcare, wealth inequality, environmental issues, reproductive education - we could have a very sustainable life right here at home. The whole mars thing is just an ego thing for some, and for people that are invested in Elon, it's just a way for them to make more money. At least be honest.

Elon is going to pay the max Federal and California tax rate next year when he exercises his expiring performance award options. He's going to pay 54% tax rate. That's 37% federal, 3.8% NIIT, and 13.3% state of California tax. Have you ever paid the max tax rate? He's going to pay over $10 billion in taxes to the IRS and California State Treasury. It will be the largest tax payment ever by US taxpayer. He's going to pay over $1 billion to the state of California which will also be the largest tax payment ever for the state.

Elon takes no salary other than the minimum wage required under California state law. He has bet and risked his entire fortune on himself and his companies. You are more than welcome to do the same. Have you started a business and risked all your money on the business? I have. So I know how hard it is, and he deserves every penny he makes.
And if the state of California hadn't subsidized a significant chunk of his company's revenues), tesla might be worth less than tits on a boar.

Now he has to give a chunk back? Boo fucking hoo. He got to use my tax money as a seed to massively grow his fortune. Excuse me if I don't subscribe to the philosophy of feeling bad for him.

What a crock.

I don't whine. I think the ones calling for crapping on rural areas and cutting them off from society just because they live in a rural area are elitist snobs that think they are better than everyone else that isn't just like themselves.

How about them?

What should be do with them while we are getting rid of all those freeloading rural areas?

Same thing they are just leaching on the cities and causing a drag on society. After all they are not nearly as good as you and your kind right?

So the people that say give them what they vote for are elitists, but the politicians actually doing it are fine and the people you defend. Makes a lot of sense.

Maybe start by starting a thread about that topic. This is a thread about, um, well, okay, carry on.
