I can RAR the beta client I got of FP a while back, and transfer it to you through an IM client. My UL bandwidth is pretty decent, but it'd still take a while.

While I preordered from SOE directly, I didn't actually DL any client, since the beta client just needs some updates and its good to go.

Well, EQ in its day was an excellent game. :p

I've created a level 4 Shaman on the RP Preferred server, Florendryl, or something along those lines. So far, its been fairly easy to complete quests that were harder in beta. Harder because there were more people, at the moment, its just preorder customers. Still a good amount of people in city areas though.

There were also some optimizations that were included, my frame rate is now only slightly higher than it was in beta, but much more consistent. My X2 4200 and X1900XT@1680x1050 Balanced quality typically gives me 35-45 fps, depending where I am.

I'm eager to get into some crafting, but I'm going to save that for when I'm more rested. Leveling isn't overally difficult, at least at the moment. Odds are, I'll make the call whether or not to keep my shaman or create a different character by the end of this weekend.

I appreciate the offer, but I hope that it will not come to that....

I reinstalled it and it says 30 minutes to go.

20gb definitely isn't right. My install was from the Preorder DVD, and I'm at 16.9gb.

I've been reading some of the official forums.....it appears that Vanguard was designed specifically for groups.........this from their faq:

- 4.15 Is this game all about grouping, or will there be content for solo/casual play as well as raid content for more hard core players? Even if Vanguard is mostly about grouping, how will you deal with players who prefer the other two extremes? Tell me more about casual, group, and raid content and how that dynamic will work in Vanguard.

You will be able to solo. Most casual content will be outdoors or in mini-dungeons. Group content will be in dungeons or in overland adventure areas, Raid content the same, but likely mostly in the depths of our larger dungeons.

Some of you may enjoy soloing in Vanguard, and some of you may find it too tedious or slow or not rewarding enough... Are we designing Vanguard as a solo-oriented game? No. The focus is on grouping. Does that mean we hate soloing and want to make it impossible? No, certainly not.

You will always be more efficient and encouraged to group, even in casual areas, although you won't need a large group. The casual areas are geared towards small groups and also designed such that one can achieve advancement in shorter contiguous chunks of gameplay, so these areas should be attractive not only to the more casual gamer, but even the hard core raid gamer who just has an hour or so to log on and wants to be able to move his character forward in some way.

End faq quote.

I always thought EQ1 was very well balanced. As is WoW. In EQ1, I played a Necro and never grouped. I played a shammy and grouped 50%. The problem I find with group focused games is that it conflicts with questing. When I tried EQ2 people were looking to group but to group in order to fulfill their quests. So it didn't work well IMO. I can tell you that LOTR is looking to be very solo friendly.

They more than likely had debug scripts running on the client and server during beta, a small increase is expected, as well as less lag server side.

Aside from the pvp servers, is there any pvp at all? Or is it "yet another treadmill MMO"? Are there end-game goals besides getting more gear (WoW)?

I hate PvP myself, and avoid it like the plague. Someone else will have to field PvP questions.

Well the reason i like PvP in MMOs is the horrible AI for pretty much every mob in every game.

It either runs at you and swings periodically, or stands back does something ranged.

The AI is just awful in WoW, EQ, DAOC, etc.

We know you are excited to explore the world we created for you, and we are equally excited to have you here. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the landscape? enjoy the freedom? of Vanguard.

man those first person animations are cheesy, well, I guess no one should be playing an MMO in first person anyway.

When Florendyl comes back up, my shaman is named Karikian. I did create a half elf monk, but mainly to hold my traditional MMO name until I can play the character more.

Hard to tell with my server being down since early this morning. :|

I enjoy the game, the characters, and I think I've found some cool people to travel with . . . but I can't play the game on my server. Other servers are up, but some are down. Its not my style to have alts on every server of an MMO.

Having canceled WoW due to boredom I have my hopes set on this game pretty high, mostly to explore and to get back in touch with my nostalgia for EQ1 (even though I'm sure it's far removed from the original). A couple weeks of waiting are in order but I'd really like some opinions from you early adopters :)

Well, the EU servers and the RP server have been down almost all day. What the frick is the point of preordering to play 3 days early when a 1/3 of that time has the servers down. I could play on a normal server, or one of the PvP (Team or FFA) servers, but dividing my limited gaming time is not a good idea.

I want to get at least high enough to get my first horse by the end of the weekend, that requires level 10.

The servers that were down are now back up. Though, technically, they came back up a few hours ago. I was in game playing. Got my shaman to 7, and began working on my harvesting skills. Tomorrow, I want to get to level 10 and begin crafting. :)

Okay, I hate to do this - but I'm going to create a separate thread for tracking which server's we're on if there isn't already one. Incidentally, I'm on Thunderaxe.
