UK at'ers..what is your view on Scottish independence?

I am for Scottish, Cornish, Channel, Welsh, Orkney, Shetland, and Manx independence. And the reintegration of Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland. Also for Greenlandic and Faroe independence.
Any particular reasons? Would those people's have any more control over their lives being part of a small nation as opposed to being part of a large one?
While smaller organisations may be more likely to be influenced in the direction that you want by political activists they may also be influenced in directions that you don't see as advantageous. You'd be much more at the mercy of vested interests in a nation state like Wales or Kernow. I'm all for more regional autonomy and decentralisation of government (particularly in the UK which is dominated by London) but independence would be, IMHO, a disaster for the smaller states.

That's an overblown claim, their historical culture is very much a part of the island that they are attached to.

Nice linking.

I'm going to assume that you're tediously picking up on the fact that the Shetlands et al are separated from the mainland...?

Because they are their own countries with historical culture independent of England.

That is true, by god! And I swear that I will neither rest nor take pleasure in anything until Wessex and Northumbria are restored and free!

I still don't know (or care that much) what is going on with this situation...

It kinda looks like Quebec, but it's not due to the language issue thing -- as far as I know, Scotland doesn't have a language police to "protect" Quebec culture.

That's my opinion on independence anywhere in the world. Regional autonomy is just better but if the central government is too incompetent/corrupt/biased/whatever, then independence should be pursued.

Then you just end up with a smaller cental government and an economy at risk of being taken advantage of.

Kernow or Manx as an independent state with its own currency would just be torn to shreds by currency investors.

Which is one reason that regional autonomy is preferable to outright secession. Secession is only a good idea when its outcomes will be less bad than the outcomes of sticking with a horrible central government, which isn't often the case.

I like that I can read most posts in this thread with a over the top Scottish or British accent. Makes things fun.

Aye!! Ya BLooOdy Wanka!! Gimme back me fish & chips!!!

I think that all international negotiations should be held in comedy overly stereotypical accents. 🙂

IMO the topic of Scottish independence is another smokescreen / waste of time so that politicians can pretend that they're doing something useful.

Speaking as an actual scottish guy..fuck the english and their bullshit laws.

Time to watch some runrig videos.
