They could use the krone or other currency. Since Iceland is possibly looking at replacing their national currency maybe Norway, Iceland, and Scotland can join in a currency union with joint control over monetary policies.

As an Englishman I really hope it happens. Any figures you have seen than make scotlands economy look healthy would be complete fiction in the event of a split. By the time all the big corps had finished pulling out of the country they would be left with a massive welfare bill with a little bit of oil and tourism to pay for it.

I have been hearing the arguements for years "England spend more per capita than scotland and it isn't fair" well guess what when you take london out of the equation (you know the city that is constantly in the top 2 world financial centres) Scotland spends way more per capita than England. It has a spiraling unemployment level of people who don't want to work (not that they would if there actually were any unskilled jobs available) and a series of cities so spread out that I can only imagine delivery companies already subsidise the cost of logistics with the profit they make in England.

You can keep your free university education, you won't be able to afford to keep primary schools open if you break the union.

Just my 2 cents.

Around the world, it is hard to find a country that, as much as the United Kingdom, supports separatism even when it is not convenient. Once the largest empire in the world, swallowing up massive civilizations in India, Africa, and elsewhere, the U.K. is, with astounding maturity, committed to holding on to no territory against the majority will of its citizens, whether it is Hong Kong, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, or Scotland. The world—and the neighborhood of Russia in particular—would be a better place if everyone settled their borders as the English and Scottish are finally able to do, with words, arguments, and an orderly vote.

:awe:

I get the impression that London agreed to it as just a placating gesture and never really thought anyone would seriously entertain it. Looking at the polls it is somewhat close, and it seems to me a total clusterf*ck in the making should independence happen.

Every poll in NI has shown that the people of NI want NI to remain part of the UK.

A slight majority now?

What is the difference between Northern Ireland and Crimea for their respective occupiers?

Not sure if English colonists count as actual Northern Irish.

I think Scotland are gone. People don't want to be on the wrong side of history.

Time for the rest of the UK to become a federal state. I don't think unitary style governments work in countries with relatively large populations.
