I was shocked that this little piss ant had the nerve to say this to my face twice! I said to the @ss hat, I want to speak to your manager NOW! He replies, "I am the manger". Now this puke is about 20 years old and weighs a buck ten wet, it took all my nerve not to snap this guys neck! I looked at him and said what your name and he said "Shawn, but it wont do you any good"! I am going back Monday and I am not leaving until this jerk is fired!

You are a class A a$$hole. The guy deals with jerks like you all day. Your actions disgust me.

i'm surprised how many of you are against the OP... if they say close at 6, they should close at 6. otherwise they shoulda stated that they close at 5:30 instead. get that ****head fired. no where in the csr world are you to talk that kinda crap.

Well, the "missing" piece of information in the original post was what he said to the employee when he heard they wouldn't let him in.

My guess is that it was vulgar.

And then he comes onto a public internet forum to give his rant, to hope that others will take his side & he'll have a moral victory. Ain't no way he's going back to Walmart to demand the employee gets fired.

What do you expect from unskilled, $7/hr wallyworld employees? If anyone of them would've told me "screw you" I would've twisted their head off. You can't do that in a customer service orientated field. If you don't like it QUIT.

I have to agree w/ OP.

Sorry, NSF4! As much as I agree w/ you on cars, this type of decision is strictly business and that one was bad.

If anything, I'd stay open PAST the regular time to do what I could in the spirit of Christmas!!!

Hell, I've done it on lesser holidays on my own.

It's almost a parallel w/ my USPS thread. (search). Sure, USPS could've just blown it off, but in 2 separate cases, they delivered a package on Christmas Eve that was a great show of dedication and then the ultimate.....

DELIVERED A PACKAGE ON CHRISTMAS DAY!!!! (And, no.......no shens! Truth)

So despite the fact that *everybody* would love to be home early, whether solely business, or even moral..........the right decision would be to stay & help the customer! Period!!

I always find that a little white lie will get you past most stubborn people. "I just need to get some medicine for my baby. In and out really quick". Makes em feel good about helping you.

Hey isn't that the same lie Bush used to get us into Iraq? "Just need to find those WMD's. In and out really quick".

See, if the President can do it to dupe the common man so can you.

That's very noble and all, but every situation's different, and obviously the kid had nothing to gain, unlike the owner of a mom & pop shop. And besides, IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!

You're all missing the point.

I worked retail for about two years. I worked on Christmas Eve and New Years eve, if we were scheduled to close at 6PM. The doors would be locked at 6PM and the last customer wouldn't leave the store until 6:10PM. But we would all work extra hard to get things pretty much cleaned up by 5:30PM that it wouldn't take us all that long to finish up and leave. So basically by 6:35PM we were all out the door.

So the OP is right in feeling the way he does. If a store (specially a large corp. store) says they're closing at 6PM then they should be open until 6PM, and as for the language...I think I would have punched him...

What kind of stupid store doesn't consider the time it takes to shut down the place in the shift timings? If a store closes at 6 they stop selling things at 6, how long it takes you to close the store is your and your company's problem - not the customer's.

Ironically, if the same thing happened to them, they would have posted the same thread.

The same thing wouldn't happen to 99% of us b/c we know not to go out expecting service this late on Christmas Eve.

It's kinda like the lady with a cart full of sh!t trying to go through the express lane. If you're a cashier and there's no one else in line behind her and it's a slow day, you may just say "Ah, what the hell" and let her come on through without even saying a word.

But if she tries to check out in the express lane when it's busy as hell and there are 10 other people in line behind her with 10 items or less, you'd probably be pissed as hell (as would the other customers).

OK, it's not exactly the same thing, but what I'm trying to say is that there are varying degrees of acceptance in large retail chain like Wal-Mart.

Coming in 20 mins before closing on March 9th: Fine
Coming in 20 mins before closing on Christmas Eve: Fvck Off
April 22nd: "Excuse me Guy in the blue vest, can you help me find this and that and that and that?" Sure, no problem maam.
December 24th at 5:45PM: "BITCH, I'm trying to do a million things at once here all while trying to finish up so I go home. SCREW YOU! Find it your damn self"

I completely agree with cutting these people some slack, but also consider that the OP took the time to call and make sure they were open until a certain hour. If the person on the phone at least hinted by saying something like "We close at 6 today but since it is Christmas Eve it's better if you come in sooner," then I'd say the OP was being an ass if he was pissed only because the store was closing early.

However there is no room for an employee of Wal-Mart to talk sh!t to a customer for that. A simple "we're sorry about that, but everyone wants to go home and be with their families" would have sufficed.
