Luckily all he got was a simple "Screw you" I asked for a manager after a cashier kept blaming my girlfriend for breaking his register by swiping her credit card through the terminal before he finished ringing everything up.

He simply said "I'm not doing a fvcking thing for you", Demanded a manager and he then simply said "fvck you" we demanded the manager again, he started yelling the same thing until all the cashiers looked at him and told him to calm down, and customers were staring at him.

Needless to say I wont be going to that wal-mart again. (Ordinance RD, Glen Burnie MD)

If the OP is telling the truth then that guy needs to be fired. You can NOT tell the customer "screw you" NO MATTER WHAT. Period.

If you can't understand that concept, you don't need to work where you have to deal with the public. You can wish you can curse or curse under your breath, but you can't say that in fron of the customer.

<<<----- used to have to deal with the customers in emergency situations <sickness, holidays, etc.>

Yeah, We signed a statement at the store, and I emailed their corporate office. after 3 days of no response I went to planetfeedback and sent another letter demanding employment of that cashier be terminated.

They called me the next day.. and informed me that they did their part, and I asked if I would ever see him if I came there to shop (which I doubt I will) and the person simply said she is not allowed to answer that.

the person who called me was from the district office.. so hopefully something was done.

to those dissing the OP, you guys are all retarded. The OP had every right to complain, especially after a jerk kid who replies like that. Kudos to the OP for keeping his cool. Not many people, me included, would have done that.

He did the right thing and complained to the store, their corp office, etc.

What the worker did was something uncalled for, and should not have happened, regardless of any situation.

The store closing early is understandable.
The "manager"'s response is definitely intolerable, under any circumstance.

The person who answered your call may or may not have known about the store closing early, either before or after your call. There is that possibility. But the person who answered your call is a representative of Walmart, you expect you will get the same answer from any other employee. When you're dealing with human contact, there will always be miscommunication like it or not.

Same with CSRs on the phone, because of the human nature and people with various personality, you are not guaranteed to receive the same level of service each time. It's just the way it is. That's why you hear of customer service being that ever reaching goal. Top level service. When there is a human factor involved, it'll always be a moving target.

You would be doing yourself and others a diservice if you let it slide and didn't bring it up to his supervisors. I'm sure if you're getting this from him, who else is receiving the same level of service as you are from him? Take the proper steps and report the incident. Don't let it slide just because it's Christmas and you feel like being nice.

As for the store closing early, you can argue til your face's blue and we'd be getting nowhere. Write to store headquarter and have them send out a memo to their staff as to what the policy should be and go from there. If you have that much energy to argue about it on the internet, make better use of that energy and do something productive instead.

And, btw, I don't think other Walmart associates you appreciate you making the comment of "typical walmart employee". There's good and bad employees and experiences anywhere you go. No need to jump onto the Walmart bashing wagon.

There's a reason why that statement is there: by law it has to be, because it is intended to inform the consumer -- you -- that the store has to keep the doors open as long as they are "open". This means that even if they close at 6 they can't stop people from coming in at 5:30.

I believe that unlocked sign is a safety concern, most likely fire related.

I also believe that a Code ADAM will allow them to lock down the store indefinitely in most places (completely unrelated as it may be).

Basically, I agree with:

A privately owned store can close whenever they want. Show me one law that says a privately owned company has to stay open for it's scheduled hours.

I suppose there could be a law otherwise, but, damn, good luck fighting it.

Again, none of that really matters with the point of this thread which is that the employee was rude. I suspect so was the customer, still customers always being right and such, they'll probably reprimand the mgr kid if not fire him.

I work in Retail and I believe that with a Code ADAM, you can post personnel at every exit of the building and check for the child as they leave, but you cannot physically lock down the building.

Many states have laws on the books specifying that stores cannot close early without "significant cause" unless advertised in advance. Now you could maybe argue that Christmas Eve is "significant cause" but it's really up to the state attorney. Anyway, that's not the important part. Think back to the few times you've looked at the top of the doors as you're exiting some place like Wally World; chances are good it says this boilerplate text we all know:
THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING (NORMAL) BUSINESS HOURS

In short, there's a possibility that WallyWorld closing 20 minutes early was illegal, and it's almost certain that if they weren't closing early then that kid locking the doors was illegal. When you're talking to the General Manager on Monday or Tuesday (it won't be that kid) make sure you point out the boilerplate text above the door that the kid was closing.

And yeah, maybe you should have budgeted your time a little better, but to be fair I didn't even know WallyWorld closed at 6 today until I wandered in there for something on the way to the folks' place. They still should have let you in. The kid telling you "screw you" was completely out of line, even if it was the worst day of work in his life. If you can't take the pressure of CSR work on Christmas Eve then maybe you should look for work in a less customer-oriented career.

show me the law that states they HAVE TO STAY OPEN! i have owned a store (and part of a few car dealerships) i have NEVER heard of that law.

the "THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING (NORMAL) BUSINESS HOURS" is in case of a fire. It does not mean that a store has to stay open. Its they can not lock down the store trapping people inside. Of during a Amber alert or CODE adam they lock it down until the child is found.

And please show me a law that says a store has to be open for the posted hours. I would love to see it and see proof it is enforced.

Yep, sounds like that to me too. :p

I worked on the gas island at Sears about 30 years ago. I told HR I'd be leaving in a couple weeks, on the last day of the year. She talked me into working one day into the new year, for the sake of getting a few more dollars in my profit sharing or some such. As luck would have it, that last day January 2nd, was a full blown blizzard. We were out pumping gas in the worst weather you ever saw. Some girl pulls in and asks me to "check her oil". I'm thinking, "Oh, I'll check your oil alright bitch!" Knowing that I was no longer going to be employed there, I simply said, "No." She gave me this astonished look. I'll always remember that. Telling the customer NO! Hah!

Wow, I can't believe he said "screw you". It's sad that he had no reservations about saying that to you.
However, for the next ~36 hours, I say forget it and enjoy your Christmas. But after that, well it might be time to go back to walmart.
Also, if your local news has a reporter who is "looking out for you", they would probably eat this story up.... just a thought.

Edit: What's with all the comments about it being right before close on Christmas eve? Should the OP have gone to Walmart at 5:45 (close at 6) on Christmas Eve? Of course not, I understand them closing at 5:45. I think the only reason the OP even ranted about the "closing early" is b/c the guy said "screw you". They may only make $6, it doesn't come with a free pass to be rude to the customers.

OP is in the right here no matter what day it is. Those people are paid to work their respective hours and they have no right to use vulgar language to customer. Im sure his manager will agree.

I agree as well. I work in support and if a customer calls 5 minutes before our lines closed, I don't blow them off....even if I know the call is going to go passed 5PM. If these employees cannot go by the hours set for them, and they cannot grasp the concept of customer service, then they shouldn't be working in that field.

  1.
Wahhh, he was mean to me! :(

Come Monday or Tuesday when poor, poor Lothar goes to complain, the "rotten Walmart kid" will simply deny it. He'll say ol' Lothar didn't get there till 6:00PM, and that he didn't utter anything other than, "Sorry, we're closed". Lothar will again be red faced and PWNED! :D

Plan, hmm, when a company says it's open untill 6PM I expect it to be open untill that time. My main gripe abput this experience it that this f*ck stick had the nerve to say something like this. He complained about being open since 7 am, you know what if you don't like it freaking quit! I could have cared less about it closing it was the rudeness of this employee. I know if I ever said that to a customer at my work I'd get sh*t canned in a instant.

Wal-mart doesn't pay $hit to its employees, but some people badly need the money and can't go anywhere else.

So you showed up at Wal-Mart 15 minutes before the posted closing time and expected them to let you in? I don't know of ANY store employee that would allow you to pull something like that, much less on a holiday. You had all day to shop

But what he said is unfortunate, and he does deserve to get sh1t canned (???). At the same time, you deserved what he said to you.

closing time is closing time and his understanding of how to treat a customer was totally whack.

I would also go in Monday and the little potty mouth would be apologizing to me personally in front of his boss.

Personally I think he is in the wrong field he should not be anywhere near the customers.

haha this is what happens when you pay, and treat your employees like, sh|t. hopefully walmart dies a horrible painful death, and a mob of angry villagers storm the waltons' underground bunker berlin style, and uncover footage of the waltons blowing their own brains out.

That was rude. COSTCO refuses entry a half-hour before closing, but it takes that long to get thru the maze and to the check-out anyway.

Here is my pre-Christmas Walmart complaint: Wal-Mart won't price match off their own web site!

I looked up this DVD box set that my wife wants for Christmas on Walmart.com to see if they carry it. The SuperWal-Mart is the only retail store within 40 miles so I am stuck with them for last minute shopping. Web site shows in stock and about the same price as Amazon and other online stores. I go in to their electronics department and can't find the DVDs. Season 1 & 2 but no blank spot on the rack for season three. So I ask the clerk who says that they have some in back and got it for me (no price sticker on it yet). I finish shopping and check out when I notice that the box set price is seven bucks more than the price off the website! I got home, double checked and called the store. "Yea, it's cheaper online. We can't help you." You price match, right? But you don't price match your own store!?! "Yea, it has to be a local store. Can't help you." IDIOTS!

I gave my wife the present on Christmas and told the story an hour later. She agreed, return it and buy for Amazon. I love her.

Your Walmart boy was probabally a Christmas temp and won't be working Monday anyway.
