From what I got from the OP, he wouldnt let him in.

Something like this happened to my wife recently, we were out in Hollywood and went to walk into the Brookstone at Hollywood/Highland. It was about 20 minutes before closing and the manager said 'sorry, we are closing'. My wife politely said I thought you were open until 10, and they said, sorry we are closed.

At some point she mentioned it to my neighbor. He's the district manager ;)

Here's my opinion. The Walmart guy is the jerk, no doubt about it so far. You could have decked the guy, but you didn't. Good move. That would have made you just as big of a jerk.

Now you could go in and get him fired. I think you would technically be right and should feel that way now. Just because you could pulverise him this way doesn't mean you have to. After Christmas, I expect you to think better of that idea, so why not let it go now, if you can. It's very easy to get tied up winning inconsequential battles that are better to not even fight.

I know noone can pass up every single battle like this, but it's OK to pass up some of them. This one sits near the middle, but I favor letting it go.

Merrry Christmas

I hate asshole people like you. Couldn't your shopping wait until the next day? If I was that kid, I would have spat in your face, and told you to fvck off.

I could bet that you were a dick to that kid before he responded back to you. You probably came off as condescending, and smug, and you deserver what you got.

The little prick works at walmart, isn't that punishment enough. Getting him fired would only help his cause. I'd say let the dick work there till he is old enough to be the greeter.

Ok, but here's the deal: "closing at 6:00" means that the doors close and the store should be cleared of customers by 6:15. Not "if you make it in before the doors lock, you can do whatever you want until you're done." It's that mentality that makes me glad I no longer work retail.

Granted, the manager should have handled things more tactfully. His announcements should have stated that the doors lock at 5:45 and that the checkouts close at 6:00, no exceptions.

I am a very nice guy. I just can't and will not tolerate customers like this, who think they are entitled to employees having to stick to a set schedule on Christmas Eve.

If they didn't want a schedule, they should have

1) Not posted that they were going to close at 6
2) Not told the guy on the phone they were closing at 6

People think they are entitled to everything. On a NORMAL saturday, they would be open much later than 6, but because of Christmas Eve, they get to close the store at 6. But no, thats not good enough for them, they want to close even earlier.

I work at a 24/7 Walmart, and we closed at 6pm. At 4 pm they started on the loudspeaker: "Blah blah we are closing at 6 so our associates can spend time with their families." I was leaving at 5:50 and dumbass people were still coming in to shop. What the associate said to you was wrong. Please don't lump all Walmart employees together. I'm not like that.

Poor customer service right there.

His case is helped because he CALLED and asked when they would be closing. He needed two quick things....doesn't sound like presents but some oil for cooking a Christmas dinner.

This is like when I called a local frame shop and asked if they have 16x24 frames. I called because for one it is a 45 minute drive (nothing locally had it I know that) and I didn't want to go all the way up there for nothing...that and I knew it was an odd size so I wanted to make sure they had it. They told me they did on the phone....when I got there it was another story "We don't carry that size." So I had to pay for the additional cost of a matte AND a larger frame to fit the matte in. This is the type of customer service I don't like.

Customers (especially the OP who called) can reasonably expect that a retail establishment will remain open until it's posted time of closing. I don't see why two small items quickly found would be such an issue.

It's obvious some of you have never worked in retail.

Hell, I closed down my store (Blockbuster) at 5:45 today too. I had at least 15 people in the store, so me and my associate knew we would be checking these people out to at least 6pm. So technically, we were open until 6--but stopped admitting more people in. It's the chance you take when you're a douche and arrive 15-20 minutes before scheduled close on CHRISTMAS EVE.

Edit: Forgot to point out, the employee the OP dealt with still shouldn't have insulted him.

I worked at walmart through the christmas rush several years ago. If the store closed at 6pm, at about 5:55pm they'd have locked the doors and we'd be shepharding the remaining customer toward the checkouts. You can bet that the grunts wouldn't be leaving until about 6:30pm at the latest, after the store has closed and we had straightened up the store according to the MOD's satifaction. Usually the MOD would do their best to make sure everyone was doing their jobs and straightening at about 5:30pm, but we definitely wouldn't turn away a customer, especially telling them to screw off with some sob story they we had been there since X-o'clock.

Enjoy your holiday, then go contact the District Manager and request a meeting between him, the punk that told you to screw off and yourself. That kind of behaviour in retail does not need to be tolerated... if you don't like your job, go find a new one.

Realize that nobody is perfect. This kid lacked maturity and made stupid mistake. I probably would've made a stupid mistake and thumped him good, but YOU have shown you're above both of us and let it slide.

If you ever go back to Walmart and the a$$hat makes a 2nd mistake like that, NOT you trying to instigate one but in the due course of random chance, wait till after work and throw him in a sack. Drive to the edge of town and throw sack into a field and drive off. He will be scared sh1Tl3ss by that point and think twice about how he acts.

Seriously though, it's Christmas eve and he probably put up with loons all day long, let your Christmas spirit show mercy and forgive him, and go buy a sack from walmart on Tuesday 'cuz you still have that gift card...

Improper management = poor employees
