Hello All,

I have a somewhat off-topic question for the thread: Can anybody tell me what the yellowish connector on the back of the X800 Pro 256 VIVO cards is?

Just looking at it, it would appear to be a sound connector. If so, how might it be used?

I have searched the manuals and technical documents on just about every card makers site, visited most forums, and done many searches to no avail. I also emailed ASUS technical support but they haven't replied.

I have been following this thread with great interest since my card fits all the requirements for the mod. Maybe I'm just too chicken, but I'm not quite ready to take the plunge.

Thanks for any replies,

Bob McP

hi bob, i have a very similar system to you, and can tell that i am happy i flashed my /tvd to xt pe... just use the gigabyte bios on the first page, and not the ati (the gigabyte works fine at 520/560 on our asus /tvd) go for it! also , it runs cool. 32C idle at XT Platinum edition

Hello All,

On the yellow connector question, I received this from ASUS technical support:

"Dear Sir or Madam:

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. My name is Bruce and I would like to help you out with your problem.

My friend , please don't care about it . Formerly , our R&D designed it to realize the VIVO . But at last , we integrated the VIVO function to the card . So , that interface is useless . The latest product has removed this interface .
Good luck ! : )"

Bob McP

ps: Azzy64, thanks for the words of encouragement. I'll probably do the flash sometime this week.

Has anyone tried flashing their x800 pro VIVO to the new X850 XT PE or similiar? Not sure if that would work due to one being AGP and the other PCI-e? What's the worst that could happen, have to flash with PCI card?

thanks guys for the info, i had ordered an ati x800 pro before i knew about the vivo and all that stuff. But i was looking at my card and it had the yellow connector and the 1.6 ns memory so i tried flashing the bios and now all 16 pipelines are open, i underclocked mine to 500 core 500 memory though just to be stable

hi, sorry i'm being rude, as i didn't introduce myself but i'm in so deep s...

i hope you will forgive me

i recently bought a radeon X800 pro vivo power-color with samsung memory @1.6

i decided as i saw the successfull results from everyone and especially rfom the power color cards to flash too

i used this command line with flashrom

flashrom -p -f 0 bios.rom

i flashed, i heard a little music and rebooted, but at reboot, the computer didn't detect the card anymore, it makes a serie of beeps as it doesn't detect the card

i'm waiting for a pci card from a friend to solve this problem

but i'd like to have a few comments about this if someone ever had this kind of problem

So, questions i have...............

do you thinks there is a risk the card won't work anymore?

just reflashing with this line could work ? flashrom -p -f 0 backup.rom (will this automatically flash my agp x800 card?

is there anyway to boot the pc blind,,i mean without video card? so that i could flash it? (i don't think but worth a try...

thanks for your help whatever the answers are...

Hi, I've been reading this forum for a little while and following this mod hoping to do it myself. I recently purchased a Sapphire X800Pro VIVO. Upon further inspection I found some strange things which I have not seen anywhere online. The core has different markings from any I've seen. Instead of saying R420 it says something along the lines of "PCI Express X800Pro" under the ATI logo. Also the codes on it are different, I've seen that the AA is for the X800 Pro and the AD is for the XT...this has neither (excuse me for not writing it down before I replaced the heatsink). The code at the bottom is 0440SS which is also different from what I have seen. It has the GC20 RAM and it appears it is laser cut.

Anyone else seen this? Any hope for modding it?

HA!! just did it! :) I bought my Sapphire x800 PRO VIVO in ..Aug, last year. I was afraid to try that until now (part of it because I live in Israel and bought the card in NY). Anyway, I flashed it. DOOM 3 BENCH:
BEFORE - 1280x1024 - High settings - DEMO1 - 53.1FPS.
AFTER (XT speed) - 1280x1024 - High settings - DEMO1 - 71.4FPS
AFTER (PRO speed) - 1280x1024 - High settings - DEMO1 - 64.4FPS
SWEEEEET :)
THANX ALOT!!!!

Problem here.. Whenever I restart the computer, the settings keep changing back to 520\560.. which gets my games lock up. If i set it to 475\450 it's working fast and very fine. any idea why It won't save the settings when I restart? (it's really not that big of an issue but it's just a bit annoying).
