The point is that in a functioning Democracy, someone as inept and incompetent as Trump shouldn’t have 42% of the vote by default.
I agree from a sanity sense that 42% of nothing should support this idiot. From a democracy perspective I’m okay with it - I’m just not okay with someone with 42% support having a plausible chance at power.

You realize Joe Biden can't tie his own shoe laces on some days? Let's be honest here. Most of us here would ask him not to drive if he was our grandfather.

I won't even go into how he is a lifelong corrupt politician. You already know that.

Where did you source this from?
The people who tell him what to think told him what to think and he thinks it. Full stop.

Why anyone takes the right-wing authoritarian seriously boggles the mind.

He doesn't care about objective, observable reality. It doesn't matter that Trump has trouble holding a glass of water and Biden is riding a bicycle.

Right-wing authoritarians are told that Biden is mentally impaired and repeat it because they are right-wing authoritarians and believe what they're told to believe.

Trying to get a reason from someone who doesn't use reason is a fool's errand. He's going to have you chasing him in circles as he continues telling you whatever he has been told to believe by his rightful authority figures.

I see how the wheels have been spinning the last week+ so that you can safely walk back your promise that you will absolutely not vote for Trump.

You will, and you will explain it away by endlessly lying to yourself about things, such as this above post.

I actually think this is the bigger story we’re seeing from polling—Trump’s base is locked in, has been for at least a year and there’s nothing anyone can do to change their mind/vote. The implications for American democracy are profound—essentially 42% of America would be fine with a Putin-style dictator (even an ineffective wannabe Putin) as long as they were aligned ideologically.

On August 27, 2019, President Donald Trump held a 41.3 percent approval rating and a 54.2 percent disapproval rating, according to FiveThirtyEight’s poll tracker. During the 365 days that followed, Trump became the third president impeached by the House of Representatives; America assassinated Iranian general Qassem Soleimani; more than 200,000 Americans died from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus; the unemployment rate rose from 3.7 percent to 10.2 percent; the US banned incoming travel from Europe, China, and Brazil; an estimated 12 million people lost health insurance coverage; Trump pardoned Roger Stone, who was facing jail time for dirty tricks on the president’s behalf; and George Floyd’s murder sparked a nationwide movement protesting for racial justice — to which officials responded by tear-gassing demonstrators in Lafayette Park in Washington, DC, so Trump could pose for a photograph holding a Bible.

That is, of course, a bitterly incomplete list of a grimly consequential year in American history. But you’d never know it simply by following Trump’s poll numbers. On August 27, 2020 — one year later, and the day Trump used the White House as a backdrop for his convention speech — FiveThirtyEight had Trump at 42.2 percent approval and 54.3 percent disapproval. Everything had happened, and politically, nothing had mattered.
Is this just the power of Facebook, or what? The base abandoned Bush for much less, although after 7.5 years, not 3.5.

Let me start by saying that I don't like Joe Biden. I will vote for him because I'm not a complete idiot, but I don't really like him.
But the idea that he is so invalid that he can't tie his own shoes is simply preposterous.

It’s pretty fun to watch motivated reasoning in real time. He’s desperately trying to find a way to justify what he emotionally wants to do and he’s decided that relentlessly lying to both us and himself is the way to go.
