I was responding to icebergslim's comment about america being nothing like haiti when in fact that's the direction we're slowly heading. The very fact that you thought the american middle class being decimated was some crazy story made up by dave makes you a complete imbecile.

Heading in a direction isn't the same as being like something. Your post is retarded. Who cares if in 20 years we'll be like Haiti, currently we're not so the comparison works. Don't be stupid.

should have thought about that before you had kids and lived in a shitty area of the country.

and if you worked all your life to feed your family and you died hungry you are doing it wrong.

We should send these Americans to haiti for a few months and so they know how well they have it and what its really like to be hungry.3

whaaaaaambulence.......look how poor i am with my electricity running water and kitchen appliances.....screw haiti take a stroll through an inner city ghetto.

Glad all your plans have worked out for you. Yea, but fuck everybody else.

That's actually the problem with conservatives, they only give a shit about right here and right now. If you're dead within 20 years, yeah maybe you don't need to care.

Are you saying there aren't hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, just how I described?

Shit ill give you millions, ill even lay it out at a huge number at 5 million americans that are worthless welfare slugs.

There are 90 million Americans receiving some kind of financial assistance. Over 20 million collecting unemployment.

The only thing i dont like about the current system is the govt doesn't create menial jobs for these people to do for 20 hours a week, just to make them work for the check.

This should NOT be tied to private industry in any way.

I agree with this. It could be anything from shoveling snow to picking up trash. Hell, if there truly is nothing to do there could be a giant labor yard where you spend your day moving bricks from one end to the other. Just something to make them work for it so they do not feel entitled. It is just like how I make my children do menial tasks for allowance/treats vs. simply giving it to them.

What's your plan for solving the multi-generational welfare cycle that seems to afflict so many families?

The last article i read said that about 73% of families are off of welfare within one year (although there was a 35% return rate).

American sociology shames welfare recipients, it is not desirable to be on welfare.

I like how you spout off retarded shit like this as if it were fact. You feel liberals can do no wrong, lol

I agree 100% with this. They should have to clean up trash from highways, or work in soup kitchens...SOMETHING to do or they dont get their check. I'd bet they would pick themselves up pretty quick and get their shit together.

That's great if true, though 35% is still far too high.

Bleeding hearts:

How is it OK for you to sit on your computer (luxury) using broadband (luxury) to post on here when you could be out helping someone like this family? You want me to give up more of what I have to help them when you haven't given all that you can. How do you reconcile this in your mind? How can you ask me to give them money when you still have money left to give?

The problem is the context of this is the NOW, so comparing what MAY be our future to the PRESENT of another nation is fucking retarded. In 20 years we might be like Haiti is now and Haiti might be like us in 20 years so the comparison you made is still fucking stupid.

That said, I do agree with our politicians thinking far to much in the now so they can get votes.

Yep. Phokus' problem is he thinks only conservative politicians do this. That, is what makes him look retarded.

NOW is already pretty fucked up. Conservatives can be delusional all they want and pretend cutting taxes for the rich is going to get us anywhere, but we've gone backwards as a country these past 30 years and there is already rampant poverty and it's never going to get better.

And your plan of trolling the internet has accomplished what exactly? How is that helping the poor?

I don't know what you're going to do if the Bush tax cuts are extended -- going to blame Republicans for extending those too?

So why not push for REASONABLE reform, rather than abolishing the system outright?

I'm relatively liberal but here is the start for me.

Keep: Food Stamps for children and qualifying families.
Keep: Section-8 and cash aid for the legally disabled only.
Keep: Worker retraining programs.

-Unemployment has a labor component.
-Regressive amounts that align with income and expenses (75% of last 3 months of work).
-If expenses exceed income, it is up to the person to sell off assets and lower expenses or declare bankruptcy.
-If you cross the 6 month mark, you must attend a class on finding and retaining employment.
-If you cross the 8 month mark, your unemployment is reduced by 20% week to week until it reaches $200, where it is stopped.
-extensive auditing agency created to look for fraud in the system.

Not bad, though I'd have concerns with the size and cost of the agency you mentioned in your last point.

Read the fucking posts. We aren't self righteous. We wake up every day, work 8 or 12 hours, and we get by. We sacrifice by going to school, not eating out, not doing drugs. When we finally make it we get shafted and have to pay for those who refused to do such things.

I paid nearly $60K last year in taxes. I don't come from money and am proud to contribute... but I contribute more than most American families do and it pisses me off to see my hard work wasted on these ingrates. I work hard and went to school for a long time, living paycheck to paycheck. Why the fuck should I have to pay for some lazy bitch to get her nails done and go to the bar?

This isn't some "I heard a story from a friend" type of story. I literally had an apartment complex that I lived in and managed. I knew these people and saw them daily. Nearly 8 years later I can still tell you most of their names. The welfare people, who had the most assistance, went out to eat the most, drove the nicest cars, went to the bars the most, bought the most food, had the nicest clothes and nicest nails...and still could come up with 10% of their rent on a monthly basis.

As for the article, there is a picture of the 2 year old girl with shit on her face. This is FUCKING AMERICA! The mom can't walk to the store, go into a public restroom and wash her child's face? I'm willing to bet she has running water and paper towels inside and could've washed it. Instead they play the role of poverty to garner sympathy and more money. While they sleep in, I strive on 5 hours of sleep so I can go out and provide for my kids and even add to their college fund.

I visited the Dominican Republic, a truly poor country by our standards. The kids there lived in little brick houses. They were the nicest, most well dressed and cleanest kids I've come across. These kids put American kids to shame. Sure they were running barefoot through the streets because they couldn't afford shoes and only had two sets of clothes, but they also had some pride and their mothers took the time to wash their fucking faces, even if it was in river water.
Help me out. What part of your rant above was NOT self righteous? Perhaps you're unclear on what the word means.

I'll give you two reasons. Democrats and Republicans. Democrats don't want to take away anything or they lose guaranteed voters. Republicans want to scrap it because they're shortsighted morons.

Of course now is fucked up, but it's still no where near as bad as most the world.
