Greedy b!tches.

Yes indeed...

Oh man, these people steam my clams.

i came across a paper today and the avg salary of ea. of the 33,000 workers is 47k. i think this is before the self induced OT some of them pad themselves with.

they get to retire at age 55 and get their sweet pension.

That's a lot for the MTA to give them. I personally feel the pension shouldn't go to everyone... which I'm sure it does. I say it should be an 'extra' award to the actual tunnel rats, not those that hold up a sign 'uptown upstairs' crap.

All cops should get pensions, even desk ones cuz if you walk out for a cup of coffee while in uniform and you're a deskjockey, and a gunfight breaks out your ass is a target!

But I'm not so sure about the MTA.

Also no MTA worker contributes to their medical plan!

So that 47k avg. salary is even sweeter.
We all pay a portion of our own plans in private corporations and the premiums increase like 5 to 10pct ea. yr! So if you don't get a raise... you're losing money after every salary review!? nice!

And the tired arguement that they aren't getting the respect = $ these hardworkers are deserving of due to the dangerous conditions they work in....

not all 33k workers are stuffed in those tunnels, and if they weren't an MTA worker,

I'm sure they'd be in construction, maintenance, mechanics, some other physical line of labor, not your next office worker...

go find another company to work for, why aren't you. Not gonna find too many other companies to work for with such a solid roof over itself as the MTA thanks to the cityslickers that need public trans to get to their cyclic balance sheet companies.

the past 10 yrs i learned 'alot' about unions. I had friends from grade school slide into Verizon (Bell Atlantic back then) and we talkin my loser friends that only went up to HighSchool. They pulled 63K back then for working from like 10am to 3pm and I was working 6am to 3am for 55k in my job in the private sector. Cool for them but me as a customer of those services and looking for alternatives/options? If I don't pick up my land line at all in a month, my bill is still like 18bucks!?

And they weren't exactly busting their balls working from 1am to 3pm. One guy actually quit after a few yrs.... but to join another Union, that big contractor one, working on big commerical site/malls.

Then I knew another friend in IT consulting assignment to CON EDISON... another union shop. Lord, he told me all these 'senior' guys come in, do nothing. The whole building, come in, paper, coffee... always talking about their 'side' endeavours and about their retirement savings, pensions etc.

So.... 2 hrs to go, bring it on beeyotches....
dare you to grow the gonads to release a full strike... 2 days pay for ea 1 day baby.

The MTA workers union said today... okay we'll drop our 8PCT raise demand now, if you now drop the penalities activated on us.

Ha??? You offering to trim your demand?
in trade for something you inflicted on yourself?

What the MTA union needs to offer is to give up something you already have to remove the penalties, not from something off the obscene number you demanded??

That's like I'll bet you 2grand that I won't wear my blue shoes today, I'll wear my red ones... when I can control the outcome, why would I help you bet and let you win 2grand?

They really fear having to pay for their actions, so I dare them to strike.

Lastly,
they quoted Rosa Parks today at a statement released to the press...

she had to break the law to rewrite the laws.
and that the transit workers are only doing the same.

Oh lord! you didnt go there did you...

Cheapened her significance and using her recent passing for your cause. You MT workers couldn't carry her jock strap. She was about breaking dumb laws and racial barriers.

You leechers are breaking just laws governing work stoppage of employees servicing the public for the purpose of MO MONEY!

Bring it on! ha ha.

Why isn't anyone talking about how we're going to get to work if there's a strike. It amazes me that in a city that's surrounded by water, other than the Staten Island ferry, there are a grand total of 2 other ferry's that will be able to take people from the other 3 boroughs (Queens, Bklyn,Bronx) to Manhattan. Staten Island is the least populated of the 4 outer boroughs so the S.I. Ferry won't even make a dent. Of the 2 NY Watertaxi ferries, one that's being billed as a commuter ferry will only take people from Queens to 34 st during the hours of 10Am-4PM and 8PM-11PM. Hello, don't they realize that most commuters want to be at work before 10AM and don't want to wait until 8PM to get a ferry back to Queens.

I have no problem with them getting pensions, but 55 is a young age and their salaries are pretty good comparitivly. This is going to cripple the city. I'm making contingency plans for getting to the airport tomorrow because even though I was gonna take a cab, it's gonna be impossible to get one with the subways/buses shut down. So much money is going to be lost if this happens.

I'm sure every new yorker is worried about it. I myself have no way to get to work at all since I don't drive (hence I don't own a car). There will be no Metro North service in my area (and now the union for those workers are thinking about walking) and I don't know of any express bus I can take. I could always take a taxi but then that carpool rule will kick in when I get to manhattan. I have no clue what I will do.

Most students start their winter vacation this week so the kids will probably just stay home if there's a strike and hope it'll be over with when its time to go back.

It looks like its over unless there is a miracle. The problem is the MTA is run by some "militant" people (according to CBS news)

God this blows. I have no idea how I'm going to get from the middle of Long Island out to La Guardia now. I have to be on a plane a little after noon on Friday!

GAHH, why does something like this always happen on the damn holidays. Last year it was record-breaking snowfall and road closures 2 days before Christmas. This year it's the stupid MTA strike.

Missing Christmas w/family 2 years in a row would really suck. :|

I really hope this blows up in the MTA union's faces. Greedy fvckers :|:|:|:|

I hope you're right...but it seems stupid to strike for only a couple days. I mean, if you're gonna do it in the first place, might as well make it worth the huge fine :)

Fortunately the wife has already learned the ways of bike commuting (does it from time to time thanks to me) and this time she has to go in to work (had it been on Friday she wouldn't). The problem is that it's going to be futhamuckin' cold tomorrow morning, making a bike commute tough. Me? I'll be at home watching the news, coding away. Had I a job to go to these days I'd bike commute of course (I ride in this weather anyway, no biggie).
