Just curious.

Yes, every third world country should start donating millions to the richest country in the world for heavy rainfall. You are a tool.
"Heavy rainfall?" How many hurricanes have you been through? It sounds like you've never been through one and are absolutely clueless about them.

Way to shed off your remarkably dumb statements about donations and latch onto two of my words. Sorry, I don't think a bit of wind and rain is a national disaster. The people in Florida are used to it and they get it far worse. If you live on the coast you should expect as much or at least learn to swim. I don't cry when the earth quakes hit, it's part of life.

I just think it's insulting to even talk about 270,000 deaths that had zero warning and compare it too a heavy rain with a two day warning. Get in your f$%@ing car and drive somewhere dry folks.

Yea cause we help out with every Asian typhoon.

This disaster is nowhere near as big as the tsunami and this whole ridiculous topic was already raised by a bunch of dumb southerners in OT and subsequently shot down.
btw, your bigotry concerning southerners is ridiculous and says a lot about your pathetically elitist mindset. If the south sucks so much then why are so many damn northerners moving down here and away from their wonderful bastions of liberalism and culture?
Meh doesn't bother me much they think they're superior to everyone from dirty A-rabs to Europeans. I'm just giving them a taste of their own medicine.

A lot of old people move to the Florida because it has nice weather and they can't take the cold up here. No one from up here wants to move to some place like Mississippi though.

BTW that quote in your sig is stupid. Pacifism worked against the British Empire which was far from a democracy.

I can't even believe Orwelll would be dumb enough to say that.
While he never stopped being a Democratic Socialist, Orwell was a die-hard anti-fascist and anti-Stalinist. Orwell's quote there was directed towards the foolishness of Neville Chamberlain's pacifistic policy of appeasement towards Hitler and Nazi Germany. That policy left Britain unprepared for the war when it did start, and almost ended in disaster. That's the point of the quote. And while the British Empire may have been far from a democracy, it was a hell of a lot more of a democracy than ever was Nazi Germany, hence the "traces of democracy survive." BTW he made the quote after-the-fact in 1941.

Don't know much about Orwell, do you? A true free-thinker, he made many the interesting quote. I like this one, "The Catholic and the Communist are alike in assuming that an opponent cannot be both honest and intelligent. "

:)

edit: to be fair, here's another good quote of his -- "The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them."

"A bit of wind and rain." Wow. Just...wow. Thanks for your weak attempt at marginalization and proving what a heartless moron you are when it comes to Americans. You've exposed your true self.

You're not honest. Until you travel the world and actually see the stuff you spout crap about, you're just some armchair dude talking out of his ass Vic. I wouldn't say you are dishonest but you are purposefully ignorant.

OK - the people in New orleans had a day or two notice.

Uh perhaps you should explain to the people in New Orleans how they were supposed to move their homes and businesses in forty-eight hours.

"Nearly all creators of Utopia have resembled the man who has toothache, and therefore thinks happiness consists in not having toothache. They wanted to produce a perfect society by an endless continuation of something that had only been valuable because it was temporary. The wider course would be to say that there are certain lines along which humanity must move, the grand strategy is mapped out, but detailed prophecy is not our business. Whoever tries to imagine perfection simply reveals his own emptiness."

Meh, I'm not going to get into this petty sh!t now.

All I can say is the comments from many here and the support of this redneck are sad, pathetic displays of American arrogance. And its hard to blame most of the world for disliking and/or distrusting us when a huge amount of our citizens act and speak like this.

I'm not looking for a perfect society just not the hell on earth we have right now for most of this worlds inhabitants.

As for my emptiness, what the hell does that mean? Empty of what? Soul? Love? I assure you I'm all full of that sh!t - too much in fact. It would be much easier to not care and hide behind some "logic is the best" cliche, not too look outside your front door and frolic around in the company rednecks and racists.

I see - you've tangled yourself in your own web, so it's "petty sh!t", eh?

Apparently, the only people that are *really* involved in catastrophic disasters are those that live in third-world countries. Have fun peddling that load of doody. You'll have to pardon us for having better-than-third-world living conditions.

Every business in the US has (or at least should have) insurance to cover the rebuilding/restoring of business. Same with every homeowner (If you can afford a house, but can't afford insurance, then you're an idiot.)

There will be some renters that won't have insurance, and others with uninsured losses. The Red Cross and other organizations are already starting to collect donations.

I'd guess that most of the money raised will be used for temporary housing, etc. for the uninsured. I know that my insurance would cover a hotel stay (for up to 6 months or something) while they fixed my house.

There will be material and personnel shortages while they rebuild, but you really don't need much space to live. I've lived in a 400sq ft apartment with 3 other roommates. Lived there for about 18 months.

People could build temporary shelter while they wait for their home to be rebuilt.

Or, they could get smart and relocate to a spot that won't get destroyed when the next hurricane rolls around...

Spoken like a true not-property-owner. How much was each life in SE Asia worth? That's all we sent money for, right? Certainly it wasn't for helping rebuild their country

Perhaps you would've been happier if thousands of people here had died.

LOL. You come off as more of a redneck than any redneck I've ever met. The only difference is that you're an elitist, American hating redneck with an obviously highly overinflated opinion of yourself and your knowledge.

"people die all the time."

Good, keep that in mind next time you spout off about Iraq. KTHNXBYE.

Edit: btw, feel free to remain a Democrat. That way you can buy a copy of the Communist Manifesto, buy a Prius, and beat your boyfriend.

So how many people and disaster aid agencies from SE Asia are rushing to assist the US right now in its time of need? How many foreign countries are donating millions of dollars to help us out after this devastation?

So by your reasoning, those people in Sri Lanka should have known that living on the coast was dangerous and shouldn't have so stupid? Tsunamis are not exactly unknown there.

"A bit of wind and rain." Wow. Just...wow. Thanks for your weak attempt at marginalization and proving what a heartless moron you are when it comes to Americans. You've exposed your true self.
Uh when does no warning and third world country factor into your remarkably stupid world view?

OK - the people in New orleans had a day or two notice.

Uh perhaps you should explain to the people in New Orleans how they were supposed to move their homes and businesses in forty-eight hours.
We were talking about lives, don't change the subject now.

Oh - so money was sent to SE Asia for lives? How much was each life worth?
Meh, I'm not going to get into this petty sh!t now.

All I can say is the comments from many here and the support of this redneck are sad, pathetic displays of American arrogance. And its hard to blame most of the world for disliking and/or distrusting us when a huge amount of our citizens act and speak like this.
LOL. You come off as more of a redneck than any redneck I've ever met. The only difference is that you're an elitist, American hating redneck with an obviously highly overinflated opinion of yourself and your knowledge.
American hating redneck? What in the hell?

Like I said before I donated to your pathetic asses and I've done it many times. I believe in compassion even for assholes. Maybe they will learn from it.

If the "assholes" knew they'd probably rather send the money back to such condescending pr!cks.

Its good to know they don't.

I don't think they care when they get food to eat when they are hungry and water to cool them down in the hot sun.

Why don't you go do something useful since you think this is such a catastrophic event rivaling the Asian tsunami?
