I've played blacklist. My opinion, graphics are great, they try to bring the stealth back from the first splinter cell but added lots of gadgets and distracting elements. They made some parts of the game force you to use combat. It can be tough but not as tough as the first splinter cell. And I'm a big splinter cell fan. Played through almost all of the games.

Blacklist is 100 times better than conviction but still feels like its missing the original feel of the first game. You get a sense and feel of it in the beginning. But you also have to use combat in some areas. Enemies spot you somewhat easily so that can be frustrating.
The story is great though, and moves along quite nicely. I got it for 27 bucks on eBay through those video game codes for gpu's.

I really liked hitman absolution. I feel like they tried to improve from blood money and they kind of did. There are multiple pathways to complete a mission but the longest I had to hide or wait was 5 minutes. Dressing as someone else will get you spotted if you stay close to those type of characters, for example dress like police, swat won't be suspicious but other police officers will. Which I guess is a little weird.

I was able to get silent assassin ratings on all the missions in absolution, with no combat pretty much. It was very rewarding but took trial and error.

Yeah that would be rewarding. It's possible but it really does take a lot of trial and error and most importantly patience. There were some cool levels. I like the electrified fence part the best.

I watched that video review. He does a good job explaining everything. I'm going to get it tomorrow but I don't think I will need to pre order for the ps4. I'm using my best buy certificate to get 10 bucks off.

Reviews are somewhat mixed right now. They range from positive to mediocre.

CVG, Game Informer, RPS, Joystiq, and Destructoid give the game a lot of praise. IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer and Polygon are a little more "meh".

I'm too lazy to link the reviews, but you can find everything in more detail here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1ysmkf/thief_review_thread/

The consensus seems to be that it's a lot like Dishonored; although not quite as good, but still pretty good.

Yea I'm going to read through them, thanks. But looks like I saw enough streaming to see what it plays like. Not sure if it requires a pre order. I can probably walk into a best buy tomorrow and get it.

Is this game going to sell 4 million copies and still be a commercial failure?

I don't think a commercial will do anything for this game. What would they do show a guy sneaking around. That would make it worse hah. But then again its not a game you advertise anyway.

Reviews are looking a bit weak, but not terrible. Average of 71 on metacritic. Hardly what I'd hope for, but better than I was expecting.

I don't think you know what "commercial failure" means...

I'm getting it anyway since I need a game for ps4. If I hate it bb has good trade in value.

This, infamous and dark souls 2 will keep me busy until watch dogs.

You what?

They range from absolutely absymal (2/10) up through an average currently around 6/10 with a few overly generous exceptions. Modern day reviews of AAA games tend to only really acknowledge the 7-10 range so to see a solid 6/10 average across the major review sites is pretty bad.

Most of the Thief fans knew deep down this was going to suck hard and I think we've more or less confirmed that to be the case with both steams of the full game and the review embargo lifted.

*Quick addition*

These sites left no score, I'll simply quote the closing paragraphs:

"As it stands, the new Thief is a confusing, confused mess that doesn't live up to its namesake." - http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/02/review-thief-reboot-should-have-stayed-hidden/

"For now, though: Thief is a woeful disappointment, a bowl of stealth gruel best pushed aside in favor of tastier fare. Let it sit, let it grow cold, and let it be rinsed away." - http://kotaku.com/thief-the-kotaku-review-1529393950

"I had more fun making my way up to bed in the dark after playing Thief than I did at any point during its benighted trudge across The City. If you come across someone else with a copy, it might be a kindness to steal it." - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/video-game-reviews/10658395/Thief-review.html

"For where it falls short, it far more often had me crouched in a shadow, heart racing, waiting for the perfect moment to dart past a guard’s routine. It may be the fourth best Thief game, but it’s a damned fine game in its own rights." - http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/02/24/thief-review/

I don't really trust those no name sites. GameZone, joystiq, pcworld, game informer are fine though. Metacritic gives it like 73 which is average I suppose.

What like Gamespot, Eurogamer, IGN, Ars and Kotaku...you just happen to trust the few sites that gave it a way above average (but still decidedly mediocre) review score? Heh.

As for Metacritic, we'll soon see the what the fans think when the fan average roles in :)

Not really just that I never heard of the sites that gave it a 2,3,5. I'm not expecting anything special, I know what its like from the psn streams. This game will have appeal from certain people not everyone anyway.

Thanks for the list. But why did you neglect to include CVG, Game Informer, Joystiq, and Destructoid? Those sites gave it an 8, an 8, an 8, and a 7.5, respectively. Also, RPS - which doesn't use a scoring system - spoke quite positively of the game.

Let me guess... did you leave those out just because they don't align with your opinion? Is your hate-boner for this game so big that you felt the need to skewer the evidence to support your position?

Not that I put much stock into review scores (I prefer reading the actual reviews to get an idea of how good the game is), but it is a little cringe-worthy the way you've been crusading against the game in this thread.

This is particularly troubling for me, as I didn't like Dishonored. =(

I actually really liked Dishonored, it turned out all said and done that when played as a stealth game to be very good, it excels in many things that Thief fails at, the non-linearity of maps, the non-linearity of missions structure and ways to complete levels, huge open areas and seamless maps, decent AI, general lack of bugs etc.

I didn't "neglect to include", I included all the reviews I've read, I have links to and I've confirmed the score is accurate. If you have links to reviews you want included in my list just link them here, I'll check them and add them.

I don't need to "skewer evidence" in my favour, we have the vast majority of reviews critically panning the game which has lack luster mechanics and has an extremely buggy release which adds a mountain of technical problems.

Link me to articles that give it favourable reviews and I'll add them.

Oh and what do you know, I thought the game looked like shit, and was going to be shit, and I was right.

They took all the things that needed changing and didn't change it, and they changed all the things that didn't need to be changed. Tell me how the fuck a game based around stealth could come out in 2014 and allow you to stand right in front of someones face and not be detected, all because your in some alleged shadow... Yet when the enemy stands in that exact same shadow, you can see them clearly. What are they fucking blind?

Another one of my complaints before, a bunch of small areas that lack any depth, you don't feel like your in a real world, you feel like you are in separated tiny areas (missions) this killed the whole environment.

You have absolutely no freedom to do what you want, you can only do things in areas where they have been set up for you. You cant jump on items, or climb every area, or jump off any ledge. How stupid is that? This is the most linear fucking piece of trash I have ever seen. "TONS OF WAYS TO PLAY" no we can only play the stupid game the way you programmed it because we are blocked off 50% of the time.

The game takes away control from you and turns into an animation for every single thing you do, like holy shit thats annoying. I am sorry, this is a unprepared grammatically incorrect rant because this game is a shit storm, and I knew it months ago. I just needed the proof, and here we have it.

Because no one cares about the sites that you listed.

^I think a huge problem in stealth games is they use some garbage "vision field" that is incredibly unrealistic. I know you can see farther than 12 feet in front of you... The problem is, if they made it super realistic, it would be near impossible to sneak past some people unless they were not paying attention or you were completely behind something. I do wish a stealth game would do that right though. The Elder Scrolls "I am crouching and therefore invisible" stealth garbage needs to be done away with same as the Metal Gear "cone of vision" garbage. I understand that latter was due to technical limitations of the MX2 and NES, but come on. We are in 2014.
