<< If "our intrests" were the only reason for rebuilding Japan & Germany...........why aren't they the 51'st and 52'nd stars on the flag right now????? Most if not all the "Empires" quoted above, kept the land they conquered.................did we??? >>

Hawaii? Phillippines? 🙂 (I don't know much about American imperialism, so I'll shut up about these two now.)

Any ways, my point is: Why conquer Germany and Japan? It will only spread bad name to Americans. Instead, build their economy and engage in trade. It will only benefit the American economy. Also, didn't most of the countries engaged in war owe a huge war debt to the US? Did Germany and Japan have to pay reparation (can't remember)? Nonetheless, Americans gain nothing if Japanese and German economies went down the drain. It was smarter to invest and rebuild their economy, IMO. Also, strengthening Germany and Japan was a good defense against the commies. No doubt.
>>

Exactly.......you answered your own question!😉 It benefits the whole world if Japan and Germany were rebuilt......not "just" the U.S.! Also, yes, many countries "owed" the U.S. a huge debt post WWII, but, most was never paid, or requested to be paid!😉

I just wanted to show my opinion that Americans were not "saints" as some people tend to suggest. They did many things for self-interests. I did benefit a lot from it and I don't complain 🙂 but still. One of the most important skills I learned in Canada 😉 was to think objectively. I'm sure that American schools teach that also.

<< HAHAHAHAHA I love it. Right into the trap. It just so happens I praised the European drive towards electric cars not too long ago

Damn that was easy

and yesterday you were posting crap like "stinking-euro-cab-drivers" and "the search for a hotel in Europe that was not rat infested"
>>

Thats not what you asked. You asked if I had EVER said anything nice about Europe and I had.

Your mistake not mine 🙂

<< America is like the ACLU.
People love to hate it until they are in trouble and need help. 😀
>>

Wow, I actually agreed with something you said.

<< One of the most important skills I learned in Canada was to think objectively. I'm sure that American schools teach that also. >>

Uh, yeah, um, sure they do.

America is far from "saintly," but it's not an evil empire that desires to conquer everyone. I can't figure out why people like perpetuating this utter falsehood.

<< I wouldn't describe America as "saintly," but it's not an evil empire that desires to conquer everyone. I can't figure out why people like perpetuate this utter falsehood. >>

IMHO, if America had the choice of easily and effective conquering the world, they would do so. However, it is no different with pretty much any other country either. The only difference is, America is the leading world power right now so people fear America doing something like that moreso then any other country. This is more of a whim idea of mine then a stone-cold belief, so please treat it as such 🙂

I think that most of the world would like us to be weak and feeble.

becasue you have been feed with propaganda for too long. sorry for you.

<< IMHO, if America had the choice of easily and effective conquering the world, they would do so. >>

If your going to make the BS claims, be prepared to give reasons why.

<< However, it is no different with pretty much any other country either. >>

That doesn't excuse your statement.

If you are going statements like that, please have at least decency to tell us all why you think it. What has America done that makes even that question valid?

<< I think that most of the world would like us to be weak and feeble. >>

I'm not sure about that, but I do agree that Americans do get picked on a lot. Some of them are not so serious but some are pretty darn serious. 🙁

You might hate me for this, but substitute Microsoft in place of the US. If Microsoft weren't so big, nobody would give a rat's @$$ about what it did.

Or perhaps you have...............😉 Wasn't it just yesterday that a thread posted about how Americans always think they know better what is going on in another country?????? Perhaps others need to heed their own advice...............😉

I'm not sure if you're just ignorant or if you're clinically delusional.

Thats no reason to be mad at you. Thats simple fact.

You don't see Detriot Lion players on Campbell's Chuncky Soup commericals for the same reason 😀

They probably wouldn't care. And I don't hate you (at least not yet 🙂 )

<< Thats no reason to be mad at you. Thats simple fact. >>

Exactly. That's no good reason, but tends to be practiced everywhere. Americans included. 😉 🙂

Now if an American disagreed with that statement, that would ignorant and arrogant 😀

<< If your going to make the BS claims, be prepared to give reasons why. >>

It was not a claim, only an opinion. You are free to disagree with it if you wish. In my mind, countries care about themselves above all else.

<< That doesn't excuse your statement. >>

Again, it was not a statement, only an opinion.

<< If you are going statements like that, please have at least decency to tell us all why you think it. What has America done that makes even that question valid? >>

Once again, it was not a statement, only an opinion. I can see that you take this subject way too seriously, so I'm just going to drop it

<< Once again, it was not a statement, only an opinion. I can see that you take this subject way too seriously, so I'm just going to drop it >>

OK tell us what you are basing your opinion on.

<< lol, is Mexico or Canada worth invading? >>

Canada and Mexico are not replete in natural resources and minerals? Maybe you should open up a geography book or something.

<< << No, the whole freakin' world hates the US government.

Including me. >>

That's too bad........ Why may I ask?????
>>

Because our government has become a tool for those who would use the resources of the American people to further their own narrow interests. It happens in every nation. Hence the need for Jefferson's "bloody revolution" every 200 years.

<< If it becomes to intolerable..........there are plenty of alternatives! >>

Yes, I've thought about that. Who accomplished more for Western civilization: those who remained in England to resist tyranny, or those who immigrated and established republican ideals in a new land?

Interplanetary travel can't come soon enough 😉🙂

"You don't see Detriot Lion players on Campbell's Chuncky Soup commericals for the same reason "

Didn't the Lions emabarass the Cowboys on the last day of the season?

<<

<< The US is the greatest nation in the history of the world, >>

WRONG.

Chinese, Roman, and Alexander Empire ARE the GREATEST NATIONS OF ALL TIME.

US is ONLY 200 years old, it has yet to prove that.

Go back to history textbook.
>>

I would have to say that you are wrong. Out of any country, past or present, name one that can project more power to any random place (no picking their own capital city, but somewhere far from both the USA and the country of your choice) in the world faster than the USA.

If you care to discuss longevity, well, I doubt the US will last longer than the Chinese empire. However, the Chinese Empire never had nuclear weapons, nor did their best fighters have the ability to kill someone at 2500 yards with a weapon that they operated all by themselves.

I love ATOT!

You get to read the most amusing things written by the most opinionated people!!!

(insert random Slashdot slam here)

And NO one gets modded down as (-1, Offtopic)

(insert random FMJ quote here)

Only two thing come out of Texas, Queers and Steers. I dont see any horns so that narrows it down a little

(insert Non US Citizen rant)

Americans are wonderful people. Individually they are some of the friendlest most honest people I have ever met.

The US Government however, is odious in it's application of foreign policy.

If you disagree, go talk to an orphan in Nicaragua and explain that their parent died because after decades of brutal dictatorship by an American sposored tyrant, the people decided to buy thier military hardware from soneone else.

Oversimplification? Probably.

But the simple fact is that a bunch of farmers in Nicaragua could never be a threat to the US, no matter how much Soviet hardware they may have been able to purchase.

Now...feel free to flame away...
